I am currently reading Scarpetta
I can't seem to stop reading this series."That is a series I CANNOT wait to start!!
I am currently reading With No One AS Witness, by Elizabeth George, it's a detective series, I really like all of them.
While I am anxiously waiting for the next Bosch book to be available for me to download from the library, I went into my Nook library to pick something I had never read. I picked
by Simon Wood. Normally, when I'm simply reading something just to pass the time & not because I really want to, I find myself not giving it a fair shot so I told myself I wouldn't do that with this one. So far, other than the poor book format on the Nook, it's a really good & complex story! It's not supurb writing or suspense but it's definitely keeping my interest. For it to have only been 99 cents, I definitely feel like it was worth it. Curious to see how it ends! After that, I'll be reading
and I can't wait!! :)
I just finished Mistborn: The Final EmpireVERY MUCH WORTH YOUR TIME!!!
Now just started The Child Thief
I am currently listening to Calico Joe by John Grisham, a wonderful sale about baseball but so much more. Frome the library I am also reading The Year of Magical Thinking by the incomparable Joan Didion about the death of her beloved husband and by e book I am also reading Luanne Rice's newest book Little Night. Rice is one of my very favorite authors and this is her 28th book she's written and I will have read when I am finished. BTW - when I asked Jodi Picoult who are some of her favorite authors, she said Luanne Rice and Alice hoffman. I totally agree.
I am reading The Secrets of Mary Bowser,by Lois Leveen, Historical Fiction, about a slave turned spy for the Union Army.

Currently, I am finishing up
. So far I am sucked in again with the many different characters. I am dying to know what's going to happen.
Finished both Calico Joe by John Grisham and The Year of Magical Thinking by Joan Didion. Grisham's book wass poignant and Didon's was heartbreaking. Now I'm reading Little Night by Luanne Rice and listening to The Litigators by John Grisham.
My husband just finished Calico Joe, he liked it a lot, thought it was a great human interest story.

Ilene wrote: "My husband just finished Calico Joe, he liked it a lot, thought it was a great human interest story."Yes, it was. Unfortunately, it showed man's cruel nature and the ability for one to forgive.
With that we are off to Ground Zero. It will be the first time either my husband or I will be there. We watched the Towers being built when we attended college and spent many summer days on the Plaza listening to various musical groups.
Ilene - thanks for your recommendations. I did read The Book Thief and thought it was a one of a kind book. I also recently read Skeletons of the Feast by Chris Bohjalian which described WWII from a wealthy German families point of view as they sought shelter from the impoending Russian army. Hard to imagine but some said that the Russians were worse than the Germans. Jews would scream in Yiddish so they would know they were Jews and not Germans before they killed. Have you read Thread of Grace by Mary Doria Russell which takes place in Italy while a Jewsih family tries to leave there.
Funny how or in this case why you read a book. We were going to Ground Zero today, taking the train and then the path. My husband cautioned me to take a small bag since this is what they recommended. I didn't want to take my I PAD and so I went to my book closet and selected a small paperback book that has been with me for forever. It was published in 1974 and tells the tale of a Russian couple before the revolution when they lived very well. The father is Christian and the mother is Jewish (unlikely combination of nobility then) and the title of the book is The Candlesticks and the Cross by Ruth Freeman Solomon. It is somewhat biographical since it tells the story of Ruth's grandmother and grandfather. Why I never read this before I don't recall but it must have struck a chord since I moved this book three times. I did read over 100 pages today so while I didn't plan on reading this now, it fit the bill for today. One of the reasons I can't line up my next reads cause life seems to interfere.

I am currently reading
I have been trying to clear some books off my shelves that have been there for a long time and this is one of them. So far this series has been very good, quick reads that keep me reading. They remind me of the tv show Medium, though I have only seen it a few times.

I really liked it! Super excited about the sequel that comes out in a couple of months!
I just finished reading Gauntlygrym by R.A. Salvatore. An excellent book and the first of an all new trilogy. Salvatore reminds me why he's such a fine author, creator of legendary dark elf ranger Drizzt Do'Urden, one of fantasy's most beloved characters.Which is a good thing to, because the last two entries into the saga weren't all that good. This last book had a sad but beautiful ending, with one of my favorite characters meeting his end. It opens the saga to all new possibilities, though, and I can't wait to read the next book.
I have just read A sense of an Ending by Julian Barnes and loved it. I have just started Half Broke Horses by Jeanette Walls, so far it is a real page turner. I loved her book The Glass Castle, disturbing, but really interesting.
I quite fancy that Julian Barnes book. Presently into a lump of historic escapism The Whale Road Some blokes, me included, have to read something like this every now and again as life in cities is, erm, mostly on the dull side as you can't axe your enemiess to death in pursuit of treasure...unless you are an investment banker. (Boooooo!)p.s. recession? what recession? judging by the cars on show around Canary Wharf last week someone's still making money. Me? I don't get turned on by cars, or golf. A goodread is far preferable and, I believe, less damaging to the environment, esp if it is in e form! Right?
I also enjoyed Sense of an ending, which is a very ordinary story told in an extraordinary way. Not much to it but still compelling. @R. J. I stood outside my kids school the other day and saw a porsche, 3 brand new range rovers/landrovers a brand new audi R7 and numerous other expensive cars. No such thing as recession for the wealthy. Still I love my old banger..... my cars ok too. :)
I cant make my mind up. I am having a crisis. I need a one word title for a reading challenge and I am stuck. Help please.
I read most things but have just finished a Dean Koontz book 77 Shadow St, Eat Pray Love and before that Delirium and Ashes (both YA). preferably fiction please and something quick and easy.
One word titles for Bev! Just a few. Some are YA others are adult. I have some more if these don't interest you or won't work for your challenge. Let me know what you think!
Wow some good ones there Dani. I was toying with Room but partials looks good. I will do a little research but many thanks. Might get that challenge done yet. :)
I have started reading Partials as a buddy challenge and it is decent. A longer book but a quick read!
Funny but I chose - Partials. I am a sucker for dystopian worlds. I am just going to download it on my kindle. Thanks Dani. You are a star.
