Sashana With 2010 coming to an end, I'm curious to know everyone's reading stats. It may really surprise you to see how many books you read this year, your ratings, and your page count. To check out your stats:

1) Look at the top of the page and click on 'My Books' (located in between the 'Home' and 'Find Books' tab)
2)Scroll to the bottom of the screen and look at the left hand side...Click on 'Stats'
3)Next to the 2010 bar click on 'Details'
4) Post here and tell us;
*How many books did you read in 2010?
*How many books did you rate 5 starts?
*What was your page count?
*Were you shocked by how much you read or didn't read?

3)What was your page count?

4)Were you shocked by how much you read or didn't read?
I was shocked by how much I didn't read. I was almost certain that I surpassed 100 books.

Alyssa (shyluck13) Cool topic, Sashana!
1)How many books did you read in 2010?
82

2) How many books did you rate 5 stars?
32

3) What was your page count?

4) Were you shocked by how much you read or didn't read?
I thought I'd read more. My page count surprised me, but not as much as my total books. I'm actually pretty shocked.

message 4: by Sashana (new)

Sashana Thanks, Alyssa. I'm really going to have to set a goal for next year because I know I can read a lot more.

Shay | 923 comments *How many books did you read in 2010? I only joined GR on June 18, 2010. Since then, I've read 235 books.
*How many books did you rate 5 starts? 10
*What was your page count? 80,170 (from June 18, 2010)
*Were you shocked by how much you read or didn't read? Not really. I usually read more books, but I think I'm reading longer books and more classics.

message 6: by Sashana (new)

Sashana I really don't know what to say. I'm impressed, Shay.

message 7: by Alyssa (new)

Alyssa (shyluck13) Shay. Holy cow. You're amazing. And I thought I read a lot. Whoa.

4)Were you shocked by how much you read or didn't read? I am a little shocked by how much I have read this year. I knew that I read a lot, but I had never kept a count until now. I seem to be reading even more now that I have goodreads to introduce me to new books and having my kindle has made it more convinent to take my books with me.

message 9: by Lisa S (new)

Lisa S (kasey_k_fan) Ok I'll do this, but I want to say, the book count is not correct. I don't know why it's not counting all of them.

1)How many books did you read in 2010?
188

2)How many books did you rate 5 starts?
30

3)What was your page count?

4)Were you shocked by how much you read or didn't read?

No I'm not shocked at all. In fact I know for a fact, I read more.

message 10: by Sashana (new)

Sashana Lisa S, I know I read more too. I think Goodreads only count the books that you added under "Currently Reading."

message 11: by AH (new)

AH | 68 comments This looks like fun - here are my stats -

1)How many books did you read in 2010 - 177
2)How many did you rate 5 stars - 36
3)Page count 63,223
4)Were you shocked by how much you read or didn't read?
No. I like to read a lot.
I am surprised by the number of 5 stars - but I joined in February so some of the books I gave 5 stars to back then, I probably wouldn't give 5 stars to today.

message 12: by Alyssa (new)

Alyssa (shyluck13) Sashana wrote: "Lisa S, I know I read more too. I think Goodreads only count the books that you added under "Currently Reading.""

Thankfully, I realized that too. Otherwise, I'd be reading until New Years to catch up to a hundred. I know I've read much, much more than my lot.

message 13: by Sans (new)

Sans Huh. According to the stats section, I read 53 books this year, which I know is inaccurate. I guess I didn't had "date read" to most of the books. Guess I have a project today!

message 14: by Sans (last edited Nov 29, 2010 12:40PM) (new)

Sans Well, that stats still isn't working for me. I updated the reading dates and it's still telling me I read only 53 books. Widget fail. I used Excel to figure out how many pages I read, so it's open to error.

*How many books did you read in 2010? 100 so far
*How many books did you rate 5 starts? 30
*What was your page count? 30,719 according to my calculations
*Were you shocked by how much you read or didn't read? Nope. My goal was to read at least 100 books this year. Next year I'm aiming for 150.

I feel the same, but I can't bring myself to go back and change ratings unless I actually re-read the book.

Sashana Me too, sometimes I go back and change them-other times I just leave them.

I've actually become very sparing with my 5 star ratings. I am not going to have time to re-read, not with over 600 books on Mt. TBR. Chalk it up to experience.

message 18: by Sans (new)

Sans Seriously. I do have a few that I re-read, but I try to do that only when no other book is catching my interest. I also noticed that I was giving 5 star ratings a lot more in the beginning of the year than I am now. I'm curious why that is.

It has to be, Sashana. I even counted the little pictures of the books and got 100, but the total listed is still 53. Grr.

I think because you start comparing them. I know that once I gave a five star rating to Pillars of the Earth, I would read a good mystery, like The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest. How could I give "Girl" the same rating as Pillars? Sure it was good, but was it great?

Shadow Jubilee (uhqs) Shay wrote: "Sans wrote: "Seriously. I do have a few that I re-read, but I try to do that only when no other book is catching my interest. I also noticed that I was giving 5 star ratings a lot more in the begin..."

I feel the same way sometimes. That's why my standard rating is 3 if I liked the book but didn't love it - and even 3 stars has gradients going from high 3 stars to low 3 stars. I'd give 5 stars (very rare) if a book has blown me away (i.e. got me excited at the end of the story; captured my imagination to the point I'm dreaming up scenes, etc.), and 4 stars are those I really enjoyed and know that there's a likelihood that I'll reread them. These conditions that I placed on my ratings help me rate the books I read. :)

I don't know how many books I read in 2010. I didn't start becoming active on Goodreads since a few months ago. I do know that I've probably read 44 books since October (which is when I started keeping track) until now, and definitely have read a lot more books from January - October that I have not recorded.

As for the books I've given 5 stars, only one (since I started becoming active on Goodreads) which was Fair Games by Josh Lanyon.

What was your page count? No idea.

Were you shocked by how much you read or didn't read?
No. Now if it were a matter of how much I had spent on books this year, that'd be another matter entirely... :D

I would like to start keeping better track of how many books (and how many pages) I read for 2011. It'd be interesting to find out. I have every intention of starting 2011's Read with Lynn Kurland's latest Nine Kingdoms book. *waiting very patiently*

message 26: by Sashana (new)

Sashana My standard rating is also 3. The older I get and the more I read, the harder rater I become. Sometimes I wonder if I'm becoming a "gasp* book snob.

usually only 15-18. Maybe a bit more of thin books this year. Hmm. I just checked, apparently 2010 is has the highest page count since 1999.
Surprise :) I blame Sony Reader. Since I got it it is always with me, so I read more often.

message 28: by Sashana (new)

Sashana I'll probably post my final, final stats again on the last day of December.

message 29: by Sans (new)

Sans What kills me is that ebook "pages" don't seem to count, so the final tally isn't really accurate or representative of my annual efforts. Boooo.

message 30: by Sashana (new)

Sashana Sans, what do you mean eBooks don't count? I think they do (or should). Do you change the book edition when you are reading an eBook?

message 31: by Sans (new)

Sans I've been reading ebooks and the number of books I've read has increased on my stats, but not the number of pages read. Since there aren't actual pages, it looks like there's no real way to keep a record like that, even though half of the ebooks I see on GR say ebook, 276 pages on the brief. Crazy.

message 32: by Sashana (new)

Sashana Sans, I definitely think that you should tell someone in the library group. eBooks should be counted because they are books.

message 33: by Sans (new)

Sans I'm going to see if it just needs to update overnight after I finish my next ebook. Maybe I checked before the 24hours needed to refresh the stats was finished?

Why don't you just change editions of the book? That's what I do.

message 35: by AH (new)

AH | 68 comments Sans, if you click on the % sign, it will give you a page number for ebooks. I use the page numbers for my ebooks.

message 36: by Shay (new)

Shay | 923 comments I was adding a new book and I noticed that the Nook ebook edition has the number of pages.

message 37: by Sashana (new)

Sashana I think it should update as soon as you finish the book. But wait it out and see what happens.

message 38: by Sans (new)

Sans Shay, some of them don't come in any other format. I just looked at my read - ebooks bookshelf that several of them do have page numbers listed but some say "unknown". Strange.

AH, where is the % you mentioned?

message 39: by AH (new)

AH | 68 comments If you are reading an ebook, when you update the page you are on you have a little percent sign - I'm on page - then click on the % sign and it changes to a page number.

If you read a lot of ebooks and it's really throwing your page count off, just get a ticker from www.tickerfactory.com . I'll admit that that's how I got my stats- the GR count was wrong and I don't have any ebook editions with no page numbers. A lot of the page numbers are wrong anyway.

message 41: by AH (new)

AH | 68 comments OK here it is -- When you update status it says "I'm __ % done" Click on the percent sign % then it changes to "I'm on page ___ of xxx"

message 42: by Sans (new)

message 43: by Sashana (new)

message 45: by AH (new)

AH | 68 comments I think it is pretty recent, maybe a few months.

message 46: by Lisa S (new)

Lisa S (kasey_k_fan) No AH, it's been there a while. I've used it before.

message 47: by Sans (new)

Sans What's really strange is that when an ebook has both the regular ebook version and an Kindle version, the ebook one lists pages while Kindle version doesn't. Weird.

message 48: by AH (new)

AH | 68 comments Sans, you can get mathematical and figure out what page you would be if you were at 50% - if your book was 300 pages, then 50% would be page 150. Not perfect, but it can work.

message 49: by Sans (new)

Sans That's what I've been trying to do. I'm going to check my page number stats tonight, see if they updated. It's almost sad that these are the things I focus on. ^o^

message 50: by AH (new)
