it may be a young adult book; i read it once probably 15 years ago. a girl who is awkward/clumsy ends up down a well, or maybe gets captured. ends up being a servant to the fairy people and unlike the other servants doesn't eat or something like that so she stays alert... learns to imitate their grace and then ends up back on the surface somehow... that's about all i remember :)
