Pearl Reads (pearl24) My Aunt sent me this book A Game of Thrones (A Song of Ice and Fire, #1) by George R.R. Martin , She said she new I liked to read and her daughter liked this book so she bought it for me. Thing is after reading all the reviews here on GR and I dont know if it is something I would like. Have any of you read this book? If so what did you think? Im more of an Uf and PNR reader (some historical romance also). I dont know what this book is classified as though. Some of the reviews say its Fantasy. Anyone know? (Its also supposed to be a new series on HBO.)

I figure if none of you can convince me to invest the time in the 800+ pages book I might just sell it. lol .

Heather (sparkleyturtle) | 151 comments Ok, I love this series. It is more fantasy and political (although, I don't know if that is the best word for it). The characters are awesome. I think it may fit into more the UF, if urban is old world. :) Give it a shot, and keep your eye on Arya (favorite character).

Yep, it's fantasy. I started book 1 but never finished it, so I'm not sure if it has much in the way of romantic elements.

Its epic fantasy. I havent read it yet, but have it in my bookshelf. Gonna read it once i have finished a few others, and definatly before i see the tv show

Tanya Urban Fantasy Freak (tinky) | 30 comments I loved "A Game of Thrones". If you ever read/liked fantasy as a kid, you will be hooked. I only read PNR and paranormal erotica now, but Fantasy & sci-fi was my first 'love' :^)

Tracy T. | 252 comments I tried to read it and I couldn't get into it. There is a lot going on and I really can't read books where there is a lot going on and lots of story lines.

Heather (sparkleyturtle) | 151 comments Nope - not much in the way of romance. There are marriages, but they are more business than pleasure. There are times when you can told that it is written by a man, but the story is still awesome. The part that sucks is that I have been waiting years for the next book.

Dobarah I have listened to the first 3 books in the series...that is a LONG book. Still, it was good, but not good enough to get the 4th book from the library...yet.

Pearl Reads (pearl24) Thanks everyone. I think the least I can do is give it a shot and see from there. Such mixed reviews. Thanks again.

Suzanne (Under the Covers Book blog) | 411 comments Oh I love this series, I have read all the ones that are out. It is a proper fantasy, but a rather dark and gritty one. There isn't really much romance, or any really to be honest! But if you want a big world with a variety of characters who change from good, bad and inbetween then this is your book.

Is there a TV mini series, omg I didn't know that, what channel is that on?

Maggie the Muskoka Library Mouse (mcurry1990) I really enjoyed this book. It's quite refreshing to have an author who isn't afraid to kill of both bad and good guys in equal measure!
