Try The Stone Crown - historical fantasy, Arthur, Merlin and a couple of contemporary teenagers. But then I'm biased - I wrote it!
Try some of these - most are series, so I gave you the name of the first ones...Tamora Pierce - start with Alanna: The First Adventure
Maria V. Synder: Poison Study
Linda Joy Singleton: Don't Die, Dragonfly
Alison Croggon: The Naming: The First Book of Pellinor
Michael Scott: The Alchemyst
Donita K Paul: DragonSpell
Cinda Williams Chima: The Warrior Heir
Joseph Delaney: Revenge of the Witch
Kristin Cashore: Graceling

I totally agree.... :)
You can't go wrong with those. I hope they're all first books in series but I could be wrong since I was working from memory.

I don't know about the first three but Dreamfever and anything by Ward are sooo not young adult!!!
The Knife of Never Letting Go was really good and The Ranger's Apprentice Series The Ruins of Gorlan (my whole family is reading the series - from 9 yr old to Grandma and Grandpa)
You could try some of these:The Sherwood Ring (set in the 50s and eighteenth century America, with ancestral ghosts, three romances and a seriously cool character in Peacable Sherwood)
Summers at Castle Auburn (Coming-of-age at the royal court, with enslaved ethereal beings, herb magic and a bit of romance)
Wildwood Dancing (a retelling of the Twelve Dancing Princesses fairy tale)
The Thief, The Queen of Attolia, The King of Attolia, A Conspiracy of Kings (BEST series ever, about the cleverest thief you'll ever encounter)
The Hollow Kingdom (Nineteenth century, goblins, unusual romance - it also has two sequels which I'm yet to read)
Good luck :)

I so agree with you about
Loved the series, reread the first one and liked it even better the 2nd time.

I actually have this as my next book to read and I hadn't heard this described like this, now I'm more excited to read this
Maryann wrote: "I don't know about the first three but Dreamfever and anything by Ward are sooo not young adult!!! "I looked on her profile at her favorite authors. They might not all be YA, but they're still all good or enjoyable.
You're right they are good, I have not been caught up by Ward but Moning has me hooked, I am rereading Dreamfever so I will be ready for Shadowfever in Jan.
You should try the Kate Daniels series, Maryann. It's closer to the Fever series in terms of action, but just as good. I liked the first book but really enjoyed the rest of them. Curran! You're not missing out on anything by skipping the BDB books, but they're great when you need something ridiculous to read.

I love Wildwood Dancing! That author is actually my favorite author of all time. Everything she writes in absolutely wonderful. I cannot say enough good things about Juliet Marillier.
Two good witch/wizard YA series are The Seer (Don't Die, Dragonfly book #1) and Blue is for Nightmares series (Blue Is For Nightmares book #1).

She's one of my best friend's favorite authors so I thought I'd give her a shot

I absolutely adored Unwind!! Are his other books any good?
Yeah, his other books are great! I don't think any are quite as good as Unwind. But the Skinjacker books (Everlost and Everwild) are really good, and so are Downsiders and The Schwa was Here. I think those are the only ones I've read. I really enjoyed them all. :)
Bruiser is his newest book and I loved it. I gave it 5 stars and have been recommending the heck out of it. Unwind is still one of my favorite books!
Everlost (Skinjacker series) is great!
Antsy Does Time, The Schwa Was Here and Full Tilt are all on my TRL. Anyone read any of these?

Juliet Marillier is absolutely amazing. Her Sevenwaters series is usually categorized as adult fantasy, but could easily be YA too. I can't wait for Seer of Sevenwaters in December!
I highly recommend these, and thanks you for all your recommendations. My TBR pile just grew. Anyway here goes: The Hunger Games, East, A Northern Light, Abarat, and The Thirteenth Tale. The last is not YA, but is a fine read and for some reason it pop into my head so I put it down.
Have you read some of L.J. Smiths Books?! AWSOME! Just got finish reading Dark Visions by her.http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/67...

ohh I read Antsy Does Time too. I still liked it, although out of all his books I've read it was my least favorite. I bought Full Tilt from the used book store a while ago but I have yet to read it …

I've read all of them except the 2 newest Vampire Diary books, and the Night World series.
So basically I've read the original 4 Vampire Diaries books, The Forbidden Game, Dark Visions, and my favorite The Secret Circle.
Love them.
Amanda wrote: "Juliet Marillier is absolutely amazing. Her Sevenwaters series is usually categorized as adult fantasy, but could easily be YA too. But, I was corrected. For this group, I would totally recommend it anyway though, especially if you love historical fantasy!
Great love of all things Shusterman here too.
I like this author its a good witch, wicca series,
there are a lot of books, 15, I normally hate long series, but they are real quick easy reads, you really just want to get to the next one!
Bluemoon wrote: "Unwind by Shusterman is really good! I also read Everlost, but didn't find it as interesting as Unwind."I agree. But I really liked Everlost too. You should try Everwild; I thought it was a lot better than Everlost. :)
Nida wrote: "Have you read the Book Thief by Markus Zusak? It's a beautifully written book with strong characters in it. I've recommended this book to tons of people and they've all loved it!"One of the best of all time IMO!
Becca wrote: "Everwild was brilliant. I loved the ending."I know, right? :D I can't wait for the third one!
Nida wrote: "Have you read the Book Thief by Markus Zusak? It's a beautifully written book with strong characters in it. I've recommended this book to tons of people and they've all loved it!"What Heidi said! <3 It's one of my all-time favorites. Sooo powerful and amazingly written. :)
The Demon King The Exiled QueenThe Alchemyst
City of Ashes
Artemis Fowl
Anything by Tamora Pierce, and Eragon does slow down a bit in eldest but Brisingr is epic. And while the series is similar to Lord of the Rings i like it better because I find it easier to read.

Gah! I can't believe I have to wait so long for it!

If you haven't read Howl's Moving Castle by Diana Wynne Jones, then I highly recommend it. It is a wonderful book and one of my favorites.

So I am looking for new books to read, obviously in the YA genre. I am not really into vampires or post-apocalyptic, I am more of a witch/wizard/magic person. I do enjoy a good love story every now and again. I really like strong characters and good endings, I don't care about series vs stand alone books. If you have any recommendations I would be grateful!!!!!!!! Thank you all so much!
