Thanks Sheila! I think I will give that one a try with that great recommendation :)

KarenF (cleocleveland) | 1099 comments I was struggling with this list but Sheila's post convinced me to give Heat Wave a try as well.

Sheila (sheilaj) Oh my, the pressure is really on me on this one. I hope you all like it as much as I did. Now I need to figure out what I am going to read.

Joyce (eternity21) | 739 comments Random Book List # 29

Duration: May 17 to June 14, 2011

Oooh I'm going to read Heat Wave. I've been wanting to read this for quite a while now

message 155: by Sheila (new)

Sheila (sheilaj) I've decided to read a classic. Dr. Jekyll which I have never read before.

message 156: by Tiffanny (new)

Tiffanny I read The Pact by Jodi Piccoult. It had an intense emotional impact on me. I cried for about a week straight, every day. My husband was so worried because I was so sad. The dual storyline is really great. The storyline of the boy and girl growing up was what really got me. I felt so bad for all of the characters in the book. I think the fact that the story was so incredibly realistic really hit home for me. Jodi did an absolutely amazing job as an author! As for my emotional well-being, I'm going to steer clear from her books for a while, lol.

message 157: by Fran, Moderator (new)

Fran | 12278 comments I finished Heat Wave today, May 25th. I ended up liking it in the end, but it was a slow go for me for awhile. I really liked Rook, but I just couldn't get close to Nikki.

message 158: by KarenF (new)

KarenF (cleocleveland) | 1099 comments I finished Heat Wave earlier (5/26/11). I love the show so it was hard for me at first not to constantly try to spot things from it. But once I stopped doing that and got into the mystery it was fun, just like the show.

message 160: by Joann (new)

Joann | 973 comments I finished Blue Bloods by Melissa de la Cruz on 05.30.11. It was okay - I gave it 3 stars. May continue with the series if I can fit it into other challenges.

message 161: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne (esmerelda1) | 2244 comments I'm confused why Lost Voices is on the list when it's not going to be published until July. I tried to order it and it wasn't available...

message 162: by Yz the Whyz, Moderator (new)

Yz the Whyz (whyz) | 9327 comments Finished listening to The City of Ember a couple of days ago. Interesting plot, but might be too young adult for my taste. I give it 3 stars.

I apologized. I didn't realize the book was not publish yet.

message 164: by Shelley (new)

Shelley | 141 comments I finished This Lullaby yesterday. It was a sweet YA book. I'm a fan of Sarah Desson. Love her.

message 165: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne (esmerelda1) | 2244 comments No worries! I'm sure it will make its way back to one of these random book lists later on!

message 166: by ~Sara~ (new)

~Sara~ | 667 comments I also read and really enjoyed This Lullaby (6/9***). This was only the second book I've read by her and, although I liked the first (Just Listen) better, this book still had the same feeling for me - a little bit of heart-ache but warm and fuzzies throughout and a feel good ending that leaves you feeling happy with the world.

message 167: by Joyce (new)

Joyce (eternity21) | 739 comments Finished reading Heat Wave. on 6/5/11. I give a 3 1/2 stars. The extra is because I love the show Castle. It was entertaining as I could see the characters they represented. I don't think a non-Castle fan would like it as much but it was a fun light read.

message 168: by Laurie (new)

Laurie Heat Wave (Nikki Heat, #1) by Richard Castle finished 6/13/11

Fran | 12278 comments Interesting list...my library has Mennonite in a Little Black Dress and Hunger- anyone read either of these? Any suggestions?

message 171: by Joann (new)

Joann | 973 comments I'm going to read Dead in the Family.

message 172: by KarenF (new)

KarenF (cleocleveland) | 1099 comments I'm going to give Monkeewrench a shot.

I'll be reading The Lord of the Rings. (:

message 174: by Barbara ★ (new)

Barbara ★ | 3901 comments I'm going to read At Grave's End (Night Huntress, #3) by Jeaniene Frost since I'm only just starting this series.

message 175: by ~Sara~ (new)

~Sara~ | 667 comments Fran wrote: "Interesting list...my library has Mennonite in a Little Black Dress and Hunger- anyone read either of these? Any suggestions?"

I just requested Hunger from the library. If you end up picking it and would like to read it with me let me know.

message 176: by Fran, Moderator (new)

Fran | 12278 comments Sara, I would love to read it with you. I'm away until Tues. so I won't be able to get to the library until Wed. Want to start it at the end of next week?

It's in transit now so should be in tomorrow or the next day. I'm starting a buddy read of The English Patient tonight but it'll be done by the end of the week so that's perfect!

message 178: by KarenF (new)

KarenF (cleocleveland) | 1099 comments I switched b/c of library timing. I finished Dead Reckoning for Dead in the Family yesterday (7/4/11). I found it pretty "meh". This series seems to be running out of some mojo.

message 179: by Joann (new)

Joann | 973 comments I finished Dead in the Family on 07.03.11. The book was okay - maybe 2.5 stars. KarenF nailed it - it's running out of mojo.

message 180: by Fran, Moderator (new)

Fran | 12278 comments I finished Hunger on 7/10. I really liked it- I found it a gripping glimpse into the mind of a teenager in the throes of anorexia. I wish it had been a little longer and maybe a little more in depth, but I still found it powerful.

message 181: by Barbara ★ (new)

Barbara ★ | 3901 comments I finished At Grave's End (Night Huntress, #3) by Jeaniene Frost on 7/10 and continue to enjoy this series.

message 182: by ~Sara~ (new)

~Sara~ | 667 comments I also read Hunger (7/13***) and agree with Fran - it was really well done. For such a short book (174 pages) it does a great job of drawing you into the story and the heroine's life.

message 183: by Yz the Whyz, Moderator (new)

Yz the Whyz (whyz) | 9327 comments Finished This Side of the Grave today. Another exciting installment to Cat and Bones adventures.

message 184: by [deleted user] (new)

Finished The Fellowship of the Ring (The Lord of the Rings, #1) by J.R.R. Tolkien (7/17/2011). Giving it ***.

I finished Mennonite in a Little Black Dress and it was really good! Woman goes through a nasty divorce and a bad car accident so she has to move back home to her mennonite community. Very pleasant, humourous read. Even though the author went through a rough period, she was positive and upbeat through it all and learned to appreciate her religious background and her eccentric family.

taita There are a couple of books on this list that I want to check out. It's hard to choose! For now, I'm going to pick Twilight. I want to see what the hype's about.

Kim | 295 comments I am going to read Starcrossed by Josephine Angelini. I started it on audio, but then lost my place so I think I will pick it back up again in book format.

Cheryl (cawils_99) I am going to try Starcrossed and if I have time Nevermore.

message 196: by Joann (new)

Joann | 973 comments I finished reading The Forest of Hands and Teeth for The Dark and Hollow Places on 08.03.11. I was surprised at how much I liked this book - it was very chilling in several places. I rated it 4 stars.

message 197: by Cathy (new)

Cathy Galloway | 700 comments I read The Art of Racing in the Rainand I LOVED it! It is totally different from my usual genre but a friend recommended it and I'm glad she did.

message 198: by Yz the Whyz, Moderator (new)

Yz the Whyz (whyz) | 9327 comments I finished Shiver (for Linger) yesterday. It started slow for me, but it picked up a bit at the end. I will see about getting the next book just to see what happen next.

message 199: by Vi (new)

Vi | 2794 comments Oh yeah, I read The Lightning Thief on Aug 1 - Three stars. Felt more like a juvenile book but I'm interested to continue.
