I'm jet lagged from the 16 hrs of flights and I'm more than a little drunk from the complimentary bar in the sky lounge but as SOON as i touch down in Miami, I'm going straight to a bookstore to go CRAZYYYYYY!

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish | 8001 comments You're not going to believe this....

I went to Target instead and I had 4 legal books in my hands. Well, 1 was only kind of legal because it's the 1st in a series I'm not already following, but I badgered my daughter into buying it! LOL

Oh, so anyway...

There I am in line to check out, and I couldn't make myself buy the books!! Can you believe that? I'm so screwed now.

But, the thing is, I'll wait until later this week when I can get my daughter to take me to the mall to the B&N because I have gift cards, so it won't cost me anythign at all.

The books are -

Live Wire (Elite Ops, #6) by Lora Leigh Harvest Moon (Virgin River, #13) by Robyn Carr Primal Bonds (Shifters Unbound, #2) by Jennifer Ashley and the one I was trying to get my daughter to buy was by an author whose name I can't remember. It was the first book in a brand new Highlander series.

message 307: by Lisa Kay (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 4782 comments Ohhhhhhhh, Dhes, I've been looking at Live Wire (Elite Ops, #6) by Lora Leigh because I've most of the great books in that series. Also just recently discovered Robyn Carr. I don't think I've read any of Jennifer Ashley. Can you believe it? Not ever The Madness of Lord Ian Mackenzie (Highland Pleasures, #1) by Jennifer Ashley which, it seems, everyone on GRs is raving about.

Keep us posted on what you really get with the gift cards.

Seriously! My daughter kept saying, "Mom, it's ok... you can buy them..." She felt bad because she's been teasing me lately about book buying. LOL!!!!!

message 309: by UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish, Your Humble Servant (new)

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish | 8001 comments Lisa, I fell in love with LL's Elite Ops, but the last couple books were filled with so many errors it drove me crazy. I need to read Renegade before I can read Live Wire though. If LW isn't amazing, I might stop reading that series all together. *gasp* I know, hard to believe.

I really enjoyed Pride Mates (Shifters Unbound, #1) by Jennifer Ashley and of course, The Madness of Lord Ian Mackenzie (Highland Pleasures, #1) by Jennifer Ashley is one of my all time fav books, and Ian is tied with Christian from Flowers from the Storm by Laura Kinsale as my all time favorite MM(merely mortal) heroes.

Bekah (bekah317) | 2750 comments I'mma be buying some Jill Shalvis and some Gena Showalter soon. I'm just trying to decide what should be actual books and what should be e books.

All of my Sherry Thomas books are ebooks and I'm finding I really want physical copies of those.

message 311: by Lisa Kay (last edited Mar 01, 2011 02:09PM) (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 4782 comments Dhes, My mistake; after checking, I've only read Wild Card (Elite Ops, #1) by Lora Leigh . I was getting that series mixed up with her Tempting SEALs. It doesn't bother me too much when there are a few errors in a book; I'm not great with grammar (only a B student, and always need to check spell-check), however, too much is too much. And it seems that I am getting more books that have an urgent need for a better editor. I mean, if it's bothering me, it is pretty bad.

I do remember how H.O.T. Dangerous Games (Tempting SEALs, #2) by Lora Leigh was. Wow. There is a scene where he goes after her in the club (in his private/rented ‘room’) that is just explosive. I thought he was going to bust the room apart or annihilate her partner.

message 312: by UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish, Your Humble Servant (new)

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish | 8001 comments Lisa, the grammar mistakes are the small of it. She was actually changing character names in the middle of the books.

WC and Maverick were amazing, then it kind of went downhill a bit. I'm hoping - REALLY hoping, they continue to get better.

message 313: by Lisa Kay (last edited Mar 01, 2011 02:44PM) (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 4782 comments I really enjoyed Winter Woman (Harlequin Historical, 671) by Jenna Kernan , but the heroine was brought to the hero by the Indians in March, no April, make that May...then changed to June! She was ‘with him for three months…no two’. What? The book was excellent, the plot was action-packed, but that drove me a little loopy.

I remember once I read a romance book where the scene went on for a really long time. It started in a gazebo that had like window-seat benches. In other words, you could lift the lid and low and behold that is where the H/H found a dead body stashed. Pages and pages go by after they find it, but eventually the H/H end up making passionate love on that same bench. Yuk! And no, the body had not been removed. Really? Double yuk.

message 314: by MashJ (last edited Mar 01, 2011 02:30PM) (new)

MashJ | 733 comments This is the sort of stuff that should have authors being lined up against the wall and have many books thrown at them. I'm fairly relaxed but that sort of inconsistency makes you think you are hallucinating- do authors not think we are concentrating when we read their books? And what happened to editing- are the editors drinking a bottle of gin before they can face opening the book?

OK- rant over. I feel better now.

message 315: by Lisa Kay (new)

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish | 8001 comments I feel better, too!

Seriously, I can excuse some grammar and punctuation, but come on... changing the characters name mid-story... UNintentionally? It's time to hire a new editor.

message 317: by Lisa Kay (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 4782 comments I've seen the name spelled differently recently...can't remember which book. But a whole name change? Maybe they went into WITSEC.

Rightfully so! I don't expect an author to be perfect, but like you said, if it becomes distracting, it has a negative impact on my rating, too.

Bekah (bekah317) | 2750 comments its my month to buy and I haven't yet bought anything. Not one thing! I almost did last Thursday but then got interrupted before I could. 8 days in and not one book bought. I don't know if I should be proud of myself or ashamed.

Could I have been cured that easily??? I mean its only been three months AND I tried to cheat the last of the month of February?!!

What is goin on??

message 324: by Autumn (new)

Autumn (sweetdenial) | 1625 comments Hahah Beckah! Well, I think you should feel proud of yourself. In my opinion it means your becoming selective rather than compulsive hmm..? So when you see a book that is truly worth your $$ then you would not feel guilty about spending the money, since ur not driven by the fever of "gotta have book in my hands" .. that's just my opinion. Either way is good that your curving your enthusiasm. U still have plenty of TBR books, and still love to read. Don't freak out just yet! ;) xxxxx

I want the actual book for those books that I just love and fall in love with, but how am I to know that BEFORE I read it????!!

Lol... I see... But aren't ebooks pretty much the same price as actual books (other than hardbacks or bundles)?? In which case you could buy the paper copy and you can always resell or exchange (on PBS) the ones you're not crazy about, no? It does seem silly to buy them twice! Or you could buy them used on betterworldbooks to save money:-D

message 328: by Bekah, Fellow Kleypasaholic (new)

Bekah (bekah317) | 2750 comments Typically I only buy ebooks if they are under $6, and if they are the same price or more obviously I'm not going the ebook route and buying the real deal if I find I really want the book.

BUT! I did just buy my first book of the month:

$3.99:

Speaking as a tax specialist in my country ebooks attract VAT (European sales tax) although printed books don't. It's one of the vagaries of the tax system being behind the curve- when the laws were written they didn't anticipate kindles etc. I don't know if they're planning on changing it.

Christine (Cagnes) (cagnes) | 223 comments I haven't bought a real book in ages... well one a couple months ago for a book signing.

I mainly read Kindle books or a library book if I can't buy it for my Kindle. I think of you guys every time I go to my library, the have hundreds & hundreds of donated paperback romances for sale for .25 each.

If any of you ever want me to look for something on your wish list, just lmk. I'd be happy to buy the books & ship them to you at exact cost (books + shipping).

message 346: by E. (new)

E. (dilawrosas) | 507 comments Ooookay, maybe I should put a ban on myself...though I really don't want to.

Why, you ask?

It seems that my library's used bookstore has become my main source of trouble! Seriously, I go there a lot and browse through the bookshelves, first eying the "gently-used" book cart at the front of the store (inside the library) and then going immediately to the 'romance' section. And then...BAM! I end up browsing the "Red-Dot Sale!" at the front of the store cashier. This "Red-Dot Sale" section is a LONG table full of books. Each are $0.25, a plastic bag full of books costing $2 (though a long time ago it used to be $1) and a paper bag costing $5.

Last time that I was there (which was this past Thursday, btw) there were some books that I wanted. I didn't expect to get a lot, but then I decided that I needed a plastic bag. Then...one of the staff gave me an extra plastic bag and told me "You can have this extra plastic bag for $.50" and also told another customer about it. The lady customer finished her browsing and got her two bags for $2.50. I took longer to fill up the bags because most of the books on the table really didn't grab my attention and thus I just decided to fill it up with books that (1) I can swap, (2) give to a family friend who asked for some particular books, and/or (3) give to a cousin. When I finally decided to pay, the staff told her co-worker that for this day only, it will be $1 each bag; thus I only paid $2 for two plastic bags full of books.

NOT to say that there are the other books that I buy every month that comes out (a.k.a. the "new" ones that are published). Add that and...well, my TBR is exceptionally HUGE right now.

Just like Christine S's case, my library's bookstore has TONS of books that needs to 'new' owners. Sad to say that I didn't make a lot of dent in it.

A Kiss at Midnight (Happily Ever Afters, #1) by Eloisa James
