I guess that's the addict thing- I must just have a habit.

There's no way in Hades I can read the hundreds of books I already own in 1 year.

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish | 8001 comments Good job, Bekah!!! Without thinking, I almost bought a book today. I had added it to my wish list and almost clicked Buy With 1-Click! I managed to pull my finger back just in the nick of time.

A close call it was!

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish | 8001 comments Thanks! I have my new shelf for books to buy in April, and another for books to buy in Jan 2012. It'll be interesting to see if I still think I simply must buy them when it's not done on impulse, know what I mean?

message 163: by Bekah, Fellow Kleypasaholic (new)

Bekah (bekah317) | 2750 comments I do! I was just thinking about that! Like, how important will these books feel to me when I can finally buy them??!

Very interesting indeed....

message 164: by UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish, Your Humble Servant (new)

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish | 8001 comments "Experts" say that one of the first ways to help stop impulse buying is by leaving your credit cards at home, because most people, by the time they get home to get their card, have decided that the item wasn't all that important after all. I'm guessing I'll feel that way about at least some of the books I'm not buying right now.

Maybe, in the long run, this resolution/challenge will help create better habits for me, maybe even the both of us.

Rose | 109 comments I foolishly ordered and read [image error] for my December challenge. Now I NEED to have the rest of "Wallflower" books and I can't wait until February to get them.

So, um, yeah...that's my (perfectly reasonable)justification for my **final** book order in S.Korea.

I've just ordered
Scandal in Spring (Wallflowers, #4) by Lisa Kleypas
It Happened One Autumn (Wallflowers, #2) by Lisa Kleypas
Devil in Winter (Wallflowers, #3) by Lisa Kleypas

And because I'm an addict...
How to Marry a Duke by Vicky Dreiling Tempt the Devil by Anna Campbell Whitney, My Love (Westmoreland, #2) by Judith McNaught

Took me 17 days to fall off the book buying freeze wagon.
What can I say? I'm horribly weak :-)

Very true. Ordinarily i wouldnt stress about it but for every new book I buy, there's that much more of a hassle trying to ship them all home in February.

I think you all going on your year-long book buying hiatus are incredible. I just have to make it until I get back to the states :-(

Autumn (sweetdenial) | 1625 comments In light of the distress caused by the impulse of buying more books... i have to admit that i feel great in this place. we are missing a screw in our heads;that's for sure. but hey when we share being loony its just comforting. People outside the book realm are so judgmental about something as primal as "serious commitment-love-impulsive buying" towards books... like it was something wrong? (-k little bit) BUT what about the shoes?? and all the fripperies ppl cant leave without???

anywho! i love the fact that we are i good company here. (((((((((huugs))))))))))

E. (dilawrosas) | 507 comments I'm not in a book-buying freezing moratorium, or whatever it is called, but I've become attached to my library's used bookstore for some books. I mean, I may not buy any books every time I go there, but it sure is bad when I do try to buy some more, especially when I caught sight of some titles that I had my eye on.

For instance:
Heartbreaker (Buchanan, #1) by Julie Garwood - it was in that list of books so I decided it looked good; now I have it, I'll read it...eventually
Temptation Ridge (Virgin River, #6) by Robyn Carr - I skimmed through it in the beginning when I borrowed it from the library, but now that I have it, I can take my time reading it thoroughly
Saved by the Sheikh! (Silhouette Desire #2045) by Tessa Radley - impulse buy

The sad thing is, it just increases my TBR pile.

*sigh*

Julianna (authorjuliannad) | 380 comments I'm addicted to the library sale too. There and the UBS is where I get most of my books. I haven't been to either in close to a month, because I messed up my knee and can't drive myself anywhere or stay on my feet for long. Does that stop me? Noooooooooo!

Now I'm feeding my addiction online. I'm still getting stuff from PBS and Bookmooch. I just ordered 6 print books from EC's sale section. All Romance eBooks is having a big 60% rebate sale on all EC titles, so I bought the first 4 and am trying figure out how many more I can get with my eBook Bucks rebates without spending any more money. And all this is after I downloaded about 10 freebies from ARE's 12 days of Christmas giveaway, and ordered 8 print books from eHarlequin when they were offering 60% off all Christmas titles and Lord knows what else from last month. Oooooh, I am hopeless...but happily surrounded by books.;-)

Once I add the series to my list, they keep track of which book I need to read next, and email me when a new book has either been added to the series, or just a couple days before the next in the series is released.

Julianna (authorjuliannad) | 380 comments UniquelyMoi *~*Dhestiny*~* wrote: "How does the AR rebate work, Julie?"

Basically, they're giving a 60% instant rebate in eBook Bucks on all EC titles, which can then be spent on anything in their store.

I started by buying 4 books, got the rebate, then ordered another one, and got the rebate on that one. I'll keep ordering one with my eBook Bucks and getting the rebates until I have too little money left in my account to buy another one. I calculated last night that I should be able to get a total of 8 books for my original purchase price before that happens, and I'll still have a couple bucks leftover to buy something else.

I know that's really convoluted, so I hope it made sense. Of course, someone could just order what they want and have a ton of eBook Bucks to spend however they want too. I'm just being really frugal. The lightbulb went on when I had $92 worth of EC eBooks sitting in my cart and knew I had to pare it down, but I'm sure I'm not the only one doing it this way.

On a side note, IMO EC's prices are pretty overinflated compared to other eBooks, so the 60% off just brings them down to what I consider a reasonable price.

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish | 8001 comments Ok, thank you for all that information. At one time I read someone's rebate rules and after making a purchase, you had to email them with your transaction information and some other things... they lost me at "email." Is that how AR has it done?

message 187: by Julianna (last edited Jan 06, 2011 06:10PM) (new)

Julianna (authorjuliannad) | 380 comments You're welcome, Dhestiny. Actually, there's no hassle at all. The rebate is instant. All you have to do is click a button and type in your email address/name, and the eBook Bucks automatically credit to your account (or they can be gifted to another user). I was really careful the first time I did it, but now that I know how it works, it's really easy.

With the book I bought last night, I hit 10 books purchased which also made me eligible for their Buy-10-Get-1-Free deal, so now I have another freebie coming. Woohoo! No wonder this is so addicting.:-)

Can you give me step by step directions on this? A friend in another group is asking about it, and I haven't done it yet, and I can't buy books anyway. So if it's not too much trouble, can you start with adding books to cart?

Thanks!!

message 191: by Julianna (last edited Jan 08, 2011 05:30PM) (new)

Julianna (authorjuliannad) | 380 comments Sure, Dhestiny. My husband says I'm terrible at giving directions, but I'll give it a shot and hope it makes sense.;-)

1. Add eligible books to your cart. The after rebate price is in the book listing. (Right now it's all Ellora's Cave titles, but they often do the rebates on other publisher's lines. You just have to watch their newsletters for sale announcements.)
2. Go through the checkout, making your purchases like you normally would.
3. Go to your library. Find the area at the top that says "Unassigned eBook Bucks."
4. Click "Access/Gift" link next to it.
5. Click the checkbox next to the amount. Type in your email address and name (or if you prefer to gift them fill in the recipient's email address and name).
6. Click "Assign eBook Bucks" button and voila! They're now in your account. You can view how much you have at the top of your library page and they can then be used to purchase anything in the ARe catalog.

Hope that helps. If you need to know anything else, just ask away.:-)

Bekah (bekah317) | 2750 comments Confession: I bought a book today, and I'm going to buy two more tomorrow, but they don't count because they are for school and I sure as hell plan on not reading them.

I just don't think that was in my exceptions list.

SO in the spirit of full disclosure...I bought, though no enjoyment was had or will be had by these books in my possession.

message 197: by Bee (new)

Bee (bee610) | 10 comments Since I received my nook last June, I went through at least 2 books a week....okay maybe 3...sometimes 4 or 5 (but only if I have extra time) but who's counting :-).

message 198: by UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish, Your Humble Servant (new)

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish | 8001 comments Bekah, I'll give you a pass if you give me one -

Yesterday there were a bunch of free books on Sony and I was careful to make sure they said $0. Well, one said $0 and I clicked buy now or whatever, and then next page came up and I hit complete order before I saw that it no longer said $0 but $9.45. I immediately called Sony and asked them to remove the book and give me a refund because I didn't download the book. He put me on hold, came back and said that the reason that happened was because while I was buying the book, they were updating prices. Anyway, they refused to refund the money, but gave me a $10 credit. I'm PISSED!!!!!!!!!!! I'll not give the Sony store another dime of my money.
