Jenn Smith | 10 comments I read this book when I was in maybe the 8th grade (which would be around 1995/1996) and it was about a girl that is maybe around 16 years old that somehow travels back in time. I think a boy comes with her. I can't remember if they were from present day or a little bit in the future. When they go back in time, they meet a Neanderthal (or may have been Cro-Magnon man) named something like Ogg.

Through a series of events, the children learn that aliens have landed on prehistoric earth and are mixing alien DNA with Neanderthal DNA to make a hybrid race (humans?). I think they were going to make them into slaves or something. The children stop the aliens from carrying out some evil plan and manage to return to their own time.

There is a heartfelt parting from the Neanderthal and when they return home and it ends with the teens fearfully watching the skies for the aliens that vowed to return someday in the future (present day).

That's all I can really remember of the book. Any help you could give would be greatly appreciated :D

Many millennia ago, a race of humans called the Neanderthal died out. It is into this culture that Josie and Nan are flung. Coming from the 21st century, they are totally unprepared, and the choices they have to make to survive change their lives forever.

This is the third novel in the loosely linked trilogy whose first two titles are "Parkland" and "Earthsong". Two teenagers from the 21st century travel back to neanderthal times and become marooned.

I sent the OP a PM letting her know that there was a suggestion. If she doesn't reply, I recommend moving this down to abandoned

bookel | 4027 comments It's definitely this book. I happened to have it out from the library when replying and it's in front of me now. :)

Justanotherbiblophile | 1814 comments If you've got the book, then flesh out the details - what'd the poster get wrong or correct? Give us some spoilers <spoiler> How'd they travel thru time? Name of the alien race? What do the aliens look like?

The reason I say this is that this answer gets archived. The next person could be searching on one of those details, and answer their own question.

The op was last active last month. Since this IS the summer and we all know what summers are like, it's possible that they will be back. Normally I'd send them a PM telling them that suggestions had been made. Unfortunately, the PM function on GR is not working for me right now. Is it working for anyone else?

Justanotherbiblophile | 1814 comments PMs are working for me, I sent the OP one asking her to check out this thread.

Jenn Smith | 10 comments Sorry, I haven't been very diligent about checking this discussion.

I wish there was a better synopsis online but this sounds like it! I'm going to try and get a copy of this book for confirmation, but this sounds like the same book and the time frame matches.

For the person (bkl) that checked the book out, how close was I in the description?

Justanotherbiblophile | 1814 comments You can also move this to the 'possibly solved' folder (there's an edit link by the subject line), since it sounds like it might be correct - if it turns out that the book is not correct, you can move it back to unsolved and bump it to the top of the list.

And, of course, once you get the book you can write a better synopsis for the rest of the online world :D

bookel | 4027 comments Hmm, I agree email replies are buggy, I didn't get a notice of a few replies here. An online search is the easiest way to find out more details. Someone's review for spoilers. A more detailed review.
