Diane | 741 comments Here is a pet peeve of mine: People who tell you secrets about other people that they have sworn not to tell, and then tell you not to tell anyone (um, note to self: never trust this person with any of MY secrets!). I was thinking of Don't Tell a Soul.

I was also thinking of Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close because loud people and people who invade my personal space really bug me.

Those are both too general - maybe "television"?

light and kitchen are pretty general, unless you just plain don't like light or kitchens

HEADS UP ON THIS TASK

This is turning out to be way too subjective - it's no fun for people if they can't tell whether a book is going to fit without specifically asking, and I know how frustrating that can be. I don't want this to be a big pain.

Therefore, I am redefining the task. The "official" description will be changed, but I wanted to give a heads up here.

Any noun, verb, adjective or adverb that is included in your statement of your pet peeve will work. I am not going to hassle people about general v. specific. Define your gripe, then find one of these types of words in a book title.

Articles, conjunctions, prepositions and pronouns still will not work - no "the" "and" "with" "who" etc.

The challenge is meant to be fun, not a stressor! It's fairly pointless if you don't try to find books that work with the spirit of the challenge and the particular task - but if it's not predictable and something you can work with, then it's a pain, not a pleasure, in your life, and that is something we want to avoid in the challenge.

Riona (rionafaith) Awesome. I will probably end up going with my first choice then, Men at Arms. Men in general do annoy me more than lights or kitchens, anyway.

Dee (austhokie) | 8947 comments I guess per the rules - I need to get my book approved as it is an ebook with no associated page count right now...

Public Lives, Private Pleasures

its published by Loose-ID and is a short novel according to their description. From the FAQ page, a novel is defined by them as over 35+K words...which if to assume 250 words a page, is 140 pages - am I good?

Deedee | 2344 comments I have a book on my TBR which I'm trying to figure out where to fit it. Seems like 15.8 would be good; I just have to figure out a peeve to go with the title.

With Friends Like These A Novel by Sally Koslow
With Friends Like These: A Novel (2010) by Sally Koslow (Goodreads Author) (Hardcover, 336 pages)

Any suggestions? Thanks!

Helen Southall (hsouthall) | 356 comments My pet peeve is: friends who constantly discuss what they wish would happen instead of working toward making it happen.

Will Wishin' and Hopin': A Christmas Story work for this?

How about "friends who say they will be on time, but they are not" or "friends who don't understand conversation boundary issues, AKA the friend who want to discuss their child's bowel movements with you in public"

With Friends Like These A Novel by Sally Koslow into this task, and now I can see a way to do it. How about friends who are verbally always ready to help but when the day comes when help is needed they are nowhere to be found? (Especially when you were there the day that they needed help?)

Sera This task is a riot.

One of my pet peeves is people who procrastinate - would One Day work for that?

Thanks.

message 70: by Sera (new)

Sera Sandy, when you have a moment, would you let me know if the book that I posted in the prior message would work for this task? I finished it earlier tonight.

Many thanks!

I'm sorry, Sera, I thought that I had replied - the book is fine.

Thanks so much!
