2011 SFR Reading Challenge

That's what made it so awesome in my POV.
Well, to avoid the GoC or AG turmoil (grin), I'll revise my recommendation to Finders Keepers. Of course, I also enjoyed Down Home Zombie Blues, although it takes place all stateside. ;-)I love everything Sinclair write, but I have to admit, I also have a really soft spot for GoC.
oh, I never wanted to cause any turmoil, just wanted to make clear I love Games of Command..; And why.I realize what works for me might not work for everyone.
Just it being called someone's least favorite caught me by surprise, and prodded the fangirl to come out. *grins*
I hope you know you really didn't cause turmoil. I just noticed no one commented (for good or ill) on Finder's Keepers, so I jokingly thought that might be the best bet for a Sinclair newbie.
I didn't mean to cause turmoil either. I was likewise surprised to find out it was so many people's favorite. And GoC does seem to be an overwhelming favorite among Linnea's fans so don't anyone take my opinion as gold or as a reason not to read it. I'm sure I'm not in the majority on this one. And I DID like it, I just liked all the others more.
I'm just popping in to recommend a book I read last year that I think SFR readers would enjoy: The Host by Stephanie Meyer. I haven't read the Twilight saga by her, and I probably won't. I'm not too keen on vampires. I found The Host hard to put down and a very emotional read. And there should be plenty of used copies floating around by now. If you've already read it, do you consider it SFR?

From what I've heard The Host is considered SFR. But it's on my to-buy list. About the used copies, LOL, I don't know. Paperbackswap's "wishing for" list is over a thousand for this one.
I'm done! Whoo hoo! Blue Galaxy was book #15 for me! I can't believe I read them all so quickly this year. In 2010 it took me all year to reach my level--course I think I agreed to 25 then and 15 now.I'll still keep reading SFRs, though. :-)
Blue Galaxy was really good! It started off more like an SF story, with a little bit of set-up of the world, just the way I like it. Then the Romance heated up and got all twisty. The story surprised me a couple of times and left me happy at the end. Very good!
Congrats Anna! That's a lot of SFR books for less than 4 months. I only contracted to read 5. I know I'll read more than 5 this year, but the next category was 15, so I stopped at five just in case. ;-)
Just finished books 17,18, 19, and 20 for the challenge. Claimed
The Ninth Orb
Dark Abyss
Redeeming Zorus
I think I only signed up for 25. So I'm almost there.
Wow, Jacqueline! I thought I was reading fast. You're speedy!I haven't heard of any of those books. I'll check them out, thanks.
Even though I'm done with the challenge I'm reading two more SFRs right now.
has reached the point for me where I'm annoyed whenever I get interrupted--even to do things like, oh, cook dinner. LOL. Darn it I want to know what happens! This is another really good book to me.

My reading challenge so far this year has been a writing challenge! Trying to finish some projects, but hoping to read more when I travel. I have the books on my kindle and ipad, but the time! And honestly, when I'm "in" a book, I can't get into someone else's book. Not far them or my story. :-( But I have a GREAT tbr waiting for me!
I can't believe I'm missed out on this for half the year! Hope it's okay if I join now? I'm targeting Venus, with eleven down so far.
I'm busy devouring Laurann Donher's back list. Just finished Redeeming Zorus and have moved onto the Zorn Warriors series.

I've got 23 books done for the SFR reading challenge. The last one Hunting Kat was unfortunately not a winner. :-(
Congrats on 23, Jaqueline! It's too bad about Hunting Kat. The premise sounds pretty good, like a PNR combined with SFR.

You can do it, Heidi! The first year I participated I started out behind too. Catching up was fun and exhilarating.
Enjoy! And don't forget to let us all know which SFRs you read because you may try some we've never heard of.
:-)
Thanks, Anna!
I did read Jacquelyn Franks's SEDUCE ME IN DREAMS earlier this year and her second in the Three Worlds series, SEDUCE ME IN FLAMES, is coming out this month. Anyone else read it?

I just started The Last Warrior by Susan Grant. It feels more like fantasy so far then SFR, although it could be called futuristic since it's about colonies founded by Earth spaceships sometime in the past. Due to reasons not well stated, the main faction of the remnants of human survivors banned technology, science, and medicine as "magic" and evil. There doesn't seem to be any "real" magic in the book so in that way it's different from classic fantasy novels.
Yeah! I met my goal! I signed up for 25 SFR reads this year and with these last two, I've reached that number.#24 is Total Recall by Kaitlyn O'Connor - 2 stars
and
#25 is Virgin by Cheryl Brooks - 4 stars
Congrats, Jacqueline! Have you read many by Kaitlyn O'Connor? I think I have two of hers on my TBR but haven't started them yet. One is Abiogenisis.
Pia wrote: "...Hmmmm, I'm glad I clicked in here because that Virgin one looks promising, Jacqueline. I love when the guys are virgins."Have you read any of the others in the series? I like them but they're not really to be taken very seriously. The sex is just goofy. The sci fi is fun though.
AnnaM wrote: "Congrats, Jacqueline! Have you read many by Kaitlyn O'Connor? I think I have two of hers on my TBR but haven't started them yet. One is Abiogenisis."Thanks! Yes I just counted and I've read 10 books by KO'C. My ratings range from 1 to 5 stars for her books. Some I love, some not so much. I like them well enough that I'll probably eventually try all of them. I have not read Abiogenisis.
Hi again--no, I'm unfamiliar with it. Your post was the first I'd come across it. But thanks for adding more info :). I like sci-fi/humor combos a lot. Sci-fi/mystery too, which I think is very hard to find, at least the kind I enjoy. "I love sci fi mysteries too. The only ones I'm aware of are the Alex Benedict novels by Jack McDevitt. Have you read those? What are some other authors to try?

Maybe I'll list her various series and check out ratings, then read the one that's highest first. :-) Plus, Abiogenesis.
my ratings are:Cyborg 5 stars
Cyborg Nation 4 stars
Rules of Engagement 4 stars
Total Recall 2 stars
Genesis 3stars
The Ninth Orb 4 stars
The Spawning 4 stars
When Night Falls 2 stars
The Portal 4 stars
Discovery: The Forgotten 4stars
Deep Penetration 1 star
Dark Abyss 4 stars
I have also reviewed each of these books if you what to check out why I gave the stars I did.
I don't even know where I am with this challenge right now, but I know I'm at least 50% done with it.

Is much more SF than R IMHO. The main characters only have one brief meeting as children for the first quarter of the book. I'm 63% in and i really haven't felt much of a romantic connection. Hadley and her love interest from
are back in action. It's a good read overall.

Jenna, wow! That is impressive. I have 2.5 months to catch up with you. (I'll never do it--I only have 6 so far.)
