message 102: by Gail (new)

Gail D.C. | 228 comments YES!!!!

SOrry if in calling wall-e a guy through things off a bit. I just did't want to say there is this robot. YOu would have had it at once.

Thanks for guessing.

message 103: by Sally (new)

Sally (seraph) ooooooooohhhhhhhhhh....well that makes more sense.

Here's one for you:

He'd do anything to save her - even break time travel laws.

message 104: by Sally (new)

Sally (seraph) Nope. :)

Here's another hint:

The drawing came before the picture.

message 105: by Gail (new)

Gail D.C. | 228 comments Somewhere in time? But then there are no time travel laws in that movie.

message 106: by Marie (new)

Marie (librarydaisygmailcom) Terminator?

message 107: by Marie (new)

Marie (librarydaisygmailcom) butterfly effect?

message 108: by Sally (new)

Sally (seraph) Nope, nope, nope.

Here's another hint:

Time travel is meant for vacationing only and has strict rules, but he meets a few other time travel renegades while in the past.
Their meeting seems like an "accident", until she sees the picture. And believing saves her life.

message 109: by Marie (new)

Marie (librarydaisygmailcom) happy accidents

message 110: by Sally (new)

Sally (seraph) That's it, Marie! YAY! Was the word "accident" to obvious? ;)

message 111: by Marie (new)

Marie (librarydaisygmailcom) Let's just say it was helpful. It's been along time since I saw that one!

message 112: by Gail (new)

Gail D.C. | 228 comments I have never seen or heard of that one! WOw I will neet to look it up.

message 113: by Marie (new)

Marie (librarydaisygmailcom) Anyone saw this little gem?

A man struggles with his memories in a changing city while he longs for a vacation on the beach.

message 114: by Marie (new)

Marie (librarydaisygmailcom) Rob you guessed it, Dark City it is!

message 115: by Marie (new)

Marie (librarydaisygmailcom) Recognize this line?
Knew this was one way ticket, but you know I had to come.

message 116: by Marie (last edited Aug 16, 2008 11:28PM) (new)

Marie (librarydaisygmailcom) yes, new movie. Most of the movie is set under water.

message 117: by Marie (new)

Marie (librarydaisygmailcom) Nope, good guess though.:) It was made in 1989. The director is king of the world.

message 118: by Marie (new)

Marie (librarydaisygmailcom) Nope. This movie has aliens. Maybe you haven't seen this one?

Tera (TheBookishAbyss) The Abyss! I love that one, Marie! Recognized the line right away, could even finish it..."love you wife". My fav line from this one: "So raise your hand if you think that was a Russian water-tentacle."

Guess I need to come up with something. Let me think a bit.

Tera (TheBookishAbyss) Okay, got it!

Seven childhood friends reunite as adults to face their worst nightmare...again.

Probably too easy, but one of my favs.

message 121: by Gail (new)

Gail D.C. | 228 comments Is it "IT"? By steven King with that awful clown.

I also really enjoyed the abyss.

Tera (TheBookishAbyss) Yep, "IT" is the correct answer and I thought Tim Curry was terrific as Pennywise the clown.

Here's another one:

She's been hired as a nanny to watch over Miles and Flora...

message 123: by Marie (last edited Aug 17, 2008 12:17PM) (new)

Marie (librarydaisygmailcom) Excellent TeraD, love that one too. The Russian tentacle line is funny!

message 124: by Marie (new)

Marie (librarydaisygmailcom) TeraD,
Turn of the screw?

message 125: by Diane (last edited Aug 17, 2008 02:06PM) (new)

Diane The Abyss...cool movie!

oops...I see I'm a little behind the game...sorry!

message 126: by Lara (new)

Lara Messersmith-Glavin (knifemaker) How about this: name the film that has Robert Mitchum, John Hurt, Gary Farmer, Crispin Glover, Johnny Depp, Gabriel Byrne, Billy Bob Thornton, Iggy Pop, and Gibby Haynes (from Butthole Surfers) in a cameo?

The strangest, most star-studded cast, and it seems like no one ever gets it... (No imbd.com, now...)

St[♥]r Pr!nc:$$ N[♥]wsheen pictures, pictures, pictures ||| ♥ Zin Uru ♥ |||| | 482 comments The Abyss wasn't so bad! I liked the part where the alien ship comes up from below and passes over them, very sublime. And then she reaches out her hand and touches the Thing! Awesome...

I am sorry I don't know the movie Lara, no IMDB makes it difficult. Even Johnny Depp's name does n't ring a bell on that movie.

message 128: by Sally (new)

Sally (seraph) Lara,

If it's what I'm thinking of, then I can see the movie poster in my head (Johnny Depp with some sort of paint on his face, right??), but I can't remember the title and I never saw it! I do remember being in high school when it came out, thinking it looked so cool and even my big brother telling me about it (he was in film school at the time and when we weren't fighting, we were talking about movies...), but I wasn't a loud to see it! lol

Tera (TheBookishAbyss) Nope Marie, not Turn of the Screw, but based on the book. This movie came out in 1961.

message 130: by Tera (TheBookishAbyss) (last edited Aug 18, 2008 12:01AM) (new)

Tera (TheBookishAbyss) Okay, the one with Johnny Depp and others...I can picture the poster as well. Johnny Depp wearing a bowler hat with lightning painted on his face holding a gun?? "Dead" something? I never actually saw this one. I remember it came out right around the time my oldest was born.

message 131: by Gail (new)

Gail D.C. | 228 comments OK I had to go to IMDB! I wont say what it is because you said not to use imdb. BUt I must say the the 1961 date is wrong. Sorry Tera D.

I had to compare 3 different actors and since jonny depp did not start acting until 1984 and robert mitchim stoped acting and died in 1997
there were some interesting years inbetween. But I will say the movie acording to imdb came out in May of 1996.

Imdb also dose have the picture of Jonny Depp holding a gun wearing war paint and also what looks like a short top hat or flat topped bouler. I dont know that much about hats.

I am not sure I heard of this movie but what elts is new! you can't keep track of them all!

Good luck to the rest of you!

message 132: by Gail (new)

Gail D.C. | 228 comments SORRY if I was sounding snotty. Not trying to be. :)

message 133: by Alex DeLarge (new)

Alex DeLarge | 851 comments This one may be too easy for our resident cinephiles:

A Haiku

Private detective
Finds more than he bargained for
"Forget it, Jake, it's..."

message 134: by Marie (new)

Marie (librarydaisygmailcom) TeraD,
The Innocents. Good one.

message 135: by Marie (new)

Marie (librarydaisygmailcom) Alex,
Chinatown?

message 136: by Marie (new)

Marie (librarydaisygmailcom) oops, looks like Rob and I were answering at the same time.

message 137: by Marie (last edited Aug 18, 2008 10:00AM) (new)

Marie (librarydaisygmailcom) Lara,
Is it Dead Man? I'm not sure I have the title right.

message 138: by Marie (new)

Marie (librarydaisygmailcom) How about this one...
Man uses lawn equipment as alternate form of transportation to visit estranged brother.

message 139: by Sally (new)

Sally (seraph) Marie, The Straight Story?

I had to watch and re-watch that one for school :)

Did you know it's based on a true story?

message 140: by Judy (new)

Judy (areallivejudy) | 22 comments Joanie: I'm so late replying, but I loved Dogfight too. Such a sweet movie!

message 141: by Alex DeLarge (new)

Alex DeLarge | 851 comments Sorry guys, I was away from my desk for a few hours. Yes, Chinatown is correct.

message 142: by Gail (new)

Gail D.C. | 228 comments perhaps this will give it a way but then this has been used in a few movies.

Badges, we don't need no stinking badges!

I believe that is the proper quote.

message 143: by Marie (new)

Marie (librarydaisygmailcom) Sally,
You are correct. Yes, I knew that it was based on a true story, hard to believe it was directed by David Lynch. Good movie.

message 144: by Sally (new)

Sally (seraph) Blazing Saddles!!!!

Awesome movie :)

message 145: by Gail (new)

Gail D.C. | 228 comments Sally are you guessing my movie?

I was not thinking of blazing saddles. But as I said the phrase is in a few movies.

Next hint.

the guy is a college student and meets up with a women in east germany.

Tera (TheBookishAbyss) No I'm not wrong about the 1961 date. That was for The Innocents, not for the Johnny Depp film.

message 147: by Sally (new)

Sally (seraph) Gail,

oh darn! And I was all excited...it's a favorite movie in our family ;)

Hhhmmm...more hints maybe?

message 148: by Marie (new)

Marie (librarydaisygmailcom) Gail,
Gotcha?

message 149: by Marie (last edited Aug 18, 2008 10:05PM) (new)

Marie (librarydaisygmailcom) How about this one? A lonely killer befriends a young girl after her family are killed.

Tera (TheBookishAbyss) Marie, is it The Professional?
