It's taking me awhile to build momentum this year. I've also been really busy with work so that isn't helping much either.

Who else is way behind on their word count?

message 2: by Sarah Jane (new)

Sarah Jane | 27 comments Mod
I'm going to use this thread to sort of cheer myself on. Also, to make myself accountable to build my word count.

message 3: by Carlee Jane (new)

Carlee Jane (chycebelle) I was on track until I had one day that I didn't write and now I'm over 2,000 words behind schedule! I don't know if that fits here, but it is almost stressing me out... almost :) Haha just focusing on discovering my characters, creating the world, and pushing the plot forward.

message 4: by Jessica (new)

Jessica (bookwormlove666) | 5 comments I'm at 8k & the goal for today is 16667 so I'm half way to the goal words (I missed 1 day of writing, but I only wrote more than the 1667 daily goal like twice) It's just so much since I didn't plan, now I know for next year to plan a lot better before I get started so I can keep up. I want to catch up & I keep telling myself I will, but then school or work or something else gets in the way. =(

message 5: by Ashley (new)

Ashley (mashley310) I'm soooo far behind. I just hit 4k yesterday.

message 6: by Meg (new)

Meg (miyagichi) I started a week late! And my word count is about 1400. I think I am in for some late nights and marathons.

message 7: by Lynn (new)

Lynn (clhammer) | 1 comments I am off to such a slow start...only 10k words when I should have 15k....I guess it isn't unfixable but...just frustrating.

message 8: by Madeline (new)

Madeline i was behind day before yesterday but i stayed up last night and even exceeded the word goal :D

message 9: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm at almost 6k. I'm smack in the middle of performing Footloose for my school, so I just haven't had time to write. I've also been pretty depressed lately, so my motivation isn't fantastic. My schedule should sort of loosen up in a week.

message 10: by Gil (new)

Gil Nambatac (kogarasumaro143) | 2 comments :( I'm still at 4K..

message 11: by Kristen (new)

Kristen (k10bentley) I'm only at 3800, but I just started on Saturday. Mine seems more like a memoir at this time, too. My job is sucking me dry of any creativity, other than writing about it.

message 12: by ♥ Regan ♥ (new)

♥ Regan ♥ (rubber_duck) | 7 comments I have to write 2396 words a day in order to catch up. I started yesterday.

message 13: by Cathy (new)

Cathy (cgraceh) | 11 comments I'm with you all...I"m only barely above 3K! So I have to write 2469 words a day to finish..although I just finished my paper for grad school this weekend and have four days off from work so as long as I can get some writing in during class, I just might, might might gain some ground back this wkd!

Starting now....check back with you all later..you keep me inspired!

message 14: by ♥ Regan ♥ (new)

♥ Regan ♥ (rubber_duck) | 7 comments INSPIRATION:
I have 6582 words so far and 4155 of that was today. If I can do it anyone can! GO INSIDE YOURSELF!

message 15: by ♥ Regan ♥ (new)

♥ Regan ♥ (rubber_duck) | 7 comments Oh.
And Write or Die.

message 16: by Kourtney (new)

Kourtney (readthateventually) I'm off to a slow start as well - I have 3001 words as of last night! Yikes! And my weekends are jammed packed for the rest of the month so I'm starting to stress...if only I could leave work to go write write write.

message 17: by [deleted user] (new)

Mmmm... no. I think I'm doing pretty well... with my 32,000+ words and all...

message 18: by Madeline (new)

Madeline congrats

message 19: by Dovewing (new)

Dovewing meh… I haven't written since Tuesday… and I'm only just over 4,000.

message 20: by JC (new)

JC (ainathiel) I am behind as well, the story is in my head. I have no idea why it can't translate on paper.

message 21: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm almost at 10k. I am so behind. I wish I would've thought that if you write 1,676 words a day, you would finish your goal :P

message 22: by Cathy (new)

Cathy (cgraceh) | 11 comments I'm really behind too...but I'm trying not to stress about it because it's my first NaNo so whatever I finish writing, I'm trying to stay positive about - also, I'm trying to keep at the forefront of my mind that the point of NaNo is not to write the Perfect novel but to just finish a ROUGH draft...even if all I get out of it is a good character or one good plot point, at least it's a start...as of this morning i"m at 5,248 so we'll see...if I can even get to 25,000 by Nov 30 I"ll be real happy! Hope that helps someone:)

message 23: by Hailee (new)

Hailee | 10 comments I'm trying to write more. I'm just a little over halfway done.

message 24: by Gil (new)

Gil Nambatac (kogarasumaro143) | 2 comments Alas! i'm done!

message 25: by [deleted user] (new)

On the website, it says that I should write over 5,000 words a day in order to win now >.<

message 26: by Hailee (new)

Hailee | 10 comments I've got to write 1648. Just a question: but do you have to finish the whole novel, or just get to 50,000 by the end of the month? Because I don't know if I can completely finish the book since I had a lot of other stuff to do on top of this.

message 27: by Cathy (new)

Cathy (cgraceh) | 11 comments Hailee wrote: "I've got to write 1648. Just a question: but do you have to finish the whole novel, or just get to 50,000 by the end of the month? Because I don't know if I can completely finish the book since I..."

I believe your'e supposed to finish a rough draft at a minimum of 50,000 words. So even though there will be editing to do later (December?), there should still be a begining, middle and end (if that makes sense).

message 28: by Mary (new)

Mary | 10 comments You don't have to finish - I'm at least 20,000 words from the end. But at 50,000-plus words. I'm tired and and I don't know where I am - is today Thanksgiving?

:-)

message 29: by Sarah Jane (new)

Sarah Jane | 27 comments Mod
Hmm...I wonder if it is actually possible to write 23,000 words in 2 days. Cuz that's where I'm at right now. Boo.

message 30: by Madeline (new)

Madeline oh wow, Sarah Jane, thats a bummer :/
well i say go for it, you never know how far you'll get.

i too am behind. i started the day at 34k and am now at 39k so im making progress. woohoo!

message 31: by [deleted user] (last edited Nov 29, 2010 08:12PM) (new)

Iiiiii... quit at about seven thousand words due to the school play, evil teachers, another school play, and clinical depression.

message 32: by Jean (new)

Jean (duettists) | 6 comments Much as I'd like to get to the end, I doubt if I'll manage that by the end of the month! I've completed over 8000 words, so I've got a long way to go!

message 33: by Kathleen (new)

Kathleen Harsch | 4 comments Yeah, had trouble reaching goal last night. I only wrote 800 words and tonight going to a comedy club to see Bobby Slayton.

message 34: by Susan (new)

Susan Quinn (susan_kaye_quinn) | 3 comments I'm so behind, but I'm trying to at least eek some words out every day. Next week I should have some major writing time. We'll see...

message 35: by Jordan (new)

Jordan Lombard (jslombard) I'm going at a relaxed pace this year. As it's my 8th year doing this, I feel like I can take a break. If I win, that'll be awesome. But if I don't, that's cool too. I'm actually wanting quality over quantity this year.

As a daily word count, I'm sticking to 1,500, because I know that any day I have off this month will give me extra time to write the last 5K. That also makes it easier to word sprint. 500 words in three writing stretches, should be doable. Of course, at the same time, my novel is completely plotted out, so that's a HUGE help. So far, it's the easiest novel I've written to date... except for the research I've had to do. I never realized my character had PTSD until just the other night!

message 36: by S (new)

S I am now like 8k behind. >.>
It's mostly due to university but since this is sort of my university work too I really need to get on and increase my word count. Trouble is I'm looking for quality rather than quantity so it's hard for me to just write with that in mind. Ah well, I can totally do this!

message 37: by Jean (new)

Jean (duettists) | 6 comments I have no thoughts of winning - I'm doing this as an exercise in discipline rather than anything else. I am also aiming for quality rather than quantity. I'm afraid my novel isn't plotted out as Jordan's is, so goodness knows how it will end! Whatever happens, at least I will have something to work on after the month is over.

message 38: by Susan (new)

Susan Quinn (susan_kaye_quinn) | 3 comments Jean - The first time I did NaNo, I had no plot just a burning desire to write. And it's sure great for the discipline part! Good luck!

Thanks for your encouraging words, Susan. Good luck to you too.

message 40: by Marlene (new)

Marlene (marlene1001) I´m doing it to see if I have the discipline too.
So far I´ve got 2.500 words because I only started yesterday. (Yes, I know it´s a little late, but I found out about NaNoWriMo at 1st November)
I think I can make it... at least I hope so...

I just took an idea I had for quite some time, but never had the time to write. It´s not going to be as good as my other books, but I definitely have a lot of fun!

message 41: by Montana (new)

Montana (rradical) | 10 comments I'm at a mere 9,551 words - I started two days late, and I've been so busy. However, I get a 4 day weekend so I should be caught up by then.

I've been doing NaNoWriMo since I was 15, so 3 years now... I've never finished, but the farthest I've gotten is 45,843 words.. so close! I'm determined to complete it this year.

Good luck to everyone!

message 42: by Susan (new)

Susan Quinn (susan_kaye_quinn) | 3 comments @Zane A MERE 10k?? Nice. And I'm sure you'll win this year, with that head start (BTW, love the name Zane so much, I named a character that ... Zaneyr actually. :))

message 43: by Julie (new)

Julie Gendron | 1 comments I got off to a slow start and I can't seem to get my footing. I am at 4,500 words and I feel like I am floundering. My kids asked me today what my story was about and I had to honestly answer: "I don't know yet. I am just going to watch my characters and see what happens."

Last year I started the month with a story and a direction in mind and I finished my 50K words with five days to spare. I am hoping I can get some footing this week and hit at least 15,000 this time next week.

message 44: by Katie (new)

Katie (katiemccoach) I'm with Cathy on this one. This is my first nanowrimo and even though I am immensely behind, I'm not stressed because this is further than I've ever been - i've actually started a novel and I have the entire book in mind, its just becoming so much harder to write it than i thought it would be. but the point is that nano is making me actually go for it so to me its not the word count that matters, its the getting my first novel done

message 45: by James (last edited Nov 06, 2011 07:54PM) (new)

James Shoop (mrtumnas) | 3 comments I did nanowrimo for the first time last year. I finished by the skin of my teeth. This year things aren't looking so hot, but I figure it's not worth stressing over, right? whether I make it or not i've written something and that's better than just dreaming about writing a novel. Anyway, only 5000 words in...should get a lot done this week though.

message 46: by Marlene (last edited Nov 06, 2011 11:48PM) (new)

Marlene (marlene1001) The same here. I started four days late and hit 5000 words yesterday. So, we´ll see...
It´s my first time too, but I already know that I´m going to participate in 2012 as well. It´s just so much fun!

message 47: by Poet in the Dark (new)

Poet in the Dark (poetinthedark) I'm behind by about 5928 words, but I'm optimistic. I write a lot, I just have to work on not getting distracted (like I am now). I'm going to a write-in today, so that should help. I'm still pumped, and very determined to finish this at 50k.

message 48: by Marlene (new)

Marlene (marlene1001) I doubled my words today so that I´m up to 10k. There´s just one problem: I have a feeling my novel is going to be much longer...

message 49: by Jordan (new)

Jordan Lombard (jslombard) I'm sitting at 9,500 words right now. This year, I'm not going for quantity, I'm going for quality. Which is against all Nano rules, I know. Well, sorta. But I don't care. This is my 8th year, and I've won the last 7, so I think I'm entitled. Plus, I'm rewriting last year's novel because i want it to turn out good.

So winning doesn't have to be a goal. Just so long as you get to where YOU want to be, or a place where you can be happy. I think that's the important part. And, above all, if you can have fun while you're doing it, I think that's the best and most important part!

message 50: by Montana (last edited Nov 07, 2011 02:14PM) (new)

Montana (rradical) | 10 comments @Susan: Haha, all my mates that are taking part are up to 15k, so I feel so left behind. My girlfriend is cheering me on though, so I have a strong feeling that I'll finish this year. (Thanks, by the way! c: )

@Marlene: I just hit 11k, and I have the same feeling. I'm building upon ideas that I've had for a while now, and with the ideas I have at the current moment, I'm sure I'll go way past 50k.
