Kaje Harper | 7 comments I'm at about 12,000. It's about having fun, not just words for the sake of words. And I'm having fun with this story. Just created a dog named Moose...

Montana (rradical) | 10 comments Every year, even though I have never won, I've gotten so much satisfaction for just attempting it. Taking on the challenge of writing a novel in just one month is a mighty task, and my 15 year-old self found it extremely intimidating. However, now that I'm 18 and in university... I see that while it is indeed a challenge, it's more about taking risks and trying and just having fun with it.

Jordan Lombard (jslombard) Kaje, I LOVE that dog already! Can I take him home with me? Pretty please? With sugar on top?

Watch out, he's a nine-month old Newf-Dane-Poodle cross and he loves to jump on people. You may want to wait until my characters work with him for a bit.

Rachel Willis | 5 comments I'm at 9500 words (give or take). This is my best year yet.

message 57: by [deleted user] (new)

I was starting off slow in Nano, and then I managed to get a few good days of writing in, and the words started flowing. I think just working on it every day and making sure you do SOMETHING is the best way to complete it.

That, and write-ins definitely help.

@Marlene: there's nothing wrong with the novel being over 50,000!

message 58: by Marlene (last edited Nov 08, 2011 08:43AM) (new)

Marlene (marlene1001) I know. It´s just that I already have a novel I´m writing and started an extra one for NaNo. Looks like I have to go on with it after november still - and that really wasn´t what i planned.
But for me almost nothing goes according to plan, so a big surprise there. ;)

I got 15k now. Maybe I´ll succeed in writing 5k per day... maybe I could even finish it till nov. 30th.
Well, dream on...

@Kaje: Your dog really sounds cute. We have a dog too and she was like that when she was younger. A dog always is a great addition to a novel! (why didn´t I have the idea?)

@Zane: Good to have company. :)

message 59: by Irene (new)

Irene Pynn (irenelpynn) | 5 comments Oh, boy. I'm SO behind! I really need a kick in the pants to get this thing going. Actually, the story is working out pretty well, but the word count... not so much. ;)

Amanda (ALittleBitofFrost) (alittlebitoffrost) I started two days late and I am only 8,455 words in at this point. I started off doing two days worth of writing in one, but right now I've slowed to the usual 1,667 words per day. I really want to get back in the routine I had going on before. I am still confident I can finish though. This being my first year, I think I'm doing rather well. :)

message 61: by Jordan (new)

Jordan Lombard (jslombard) Kaje, that's alright. He still sounds adorable. lol.

I should add a dog to my novel, but I think I might hold off until a later novel. I'm pretty sure my word count will be good for this year. If it's not, then I'll add in a fluffy puppy to add more words.

Irene, something one of my other writing groups does... we have a member who rides horses and she threatens people with her crop if they don't get their writing done. If you need me to do that, I certainly can! lol.

message 62: by Montana (new)

Montana (rradical) | 10 comments I just got home two hours ago after a busy day... up to 13,293 words. I have a four day weekend coming up, so I should boost my count... a lot.

message 63: by Jordan (new)

Jordan Lombard (jslombard) I'm soooo getting behind. Didn't write yesterday, was 500 words behind the day before, and didn't write today. I hope I can stay awake on my train ride tomorrow to spend it catching up. Thought I would be getting ahead... guess not.

message 64: by Zachary (new)

Zachary Chuck Norris once told me. "Why are you staring at my beard?" Ever since then everything has come naturally. I advise you all to do the same.... Times 2.

message 65: by Wendy (new)

Wendy (indigoskye) Sarah Jane wrote: "It's taking me awhile to build momentum this year. I've also been really busy with work so that isn't helping much either.

Who else is way behind on their word count?"

I've been off to a slow start myself. Part of it was due to work, I had a big event at the top of the month that I had to participate in. I lost four days to that. Then I had trouble getting into my characters. However, I'm going to keep at it and simply write every day that I have available. Hopefully I'll make the 50K this year again. If I don't, I'll still have a sizable rough draft to play with this winter. :)

message 66: by Jason (new)

Jason Last year I hit 50K with 2 days to spare but this year it just feels forced. Haven't even hit 1000 words yet. Hoping inspiration will strike and I get writing again.

message 67: by Jacquel (new)

Jacquel (clairevioletthorpe) It has been Day 9, and I'm feeling like I'm behind. But then I realize that I've been writing an average of over 2,000 words every day, so I'm not feeling too bad about it.

message 68: by Meredith (new)

Meredith (mcgraced) I've done a more writing in these last nine days than I've done in months, which I feel good about. But I'm just a weeeee bit behind in my count for where I should be. Nose the the grindstone!

message 69: by Juliann (new)

Juliann (tea_lady) I've only been able to write for a little while one day (been under the weather) and I'm at less than 800 words. I'm refusing to let it get me down. As I feel better I'll pick up speed, and I feel better today. I guess I'm optimistic in part because I can type really fast, lol.

message 70: by [deleted user] (new)

i think i've written 30 words - been sick - ugh!

message 71: by Sandra (new)

Sandra Nachlinger | 1 comments I'm at 18,700 words (should be at 21,666) and I have no ideas about what's going to happen next. My coming week looks busy too. Panic time.

message 72: by Marlene (new)

Marlene (marlene1001) Use the Travelling Shovel of Death. ;) It always seem to keep your story going.

message 73: by Jane (new)

Jane (shoxford) | 1 comments I haven't started yet....eek!

Amanda (ALittleBitofFrost) (alittlebitoffrost) Marlene wrote: "Use the Travelling Shovel of Death. ;) It always seem to keep your story going."

That sounds like a great idea. I might just slip that into my next chapter. :)

message 75: by Jordan (new)

Jordan Lombard (jslombard) Someone from my region likes to use "And then it blew up." Another region member likes to advice people writing at a write-in never to leave your computer unlocked. He went to the bathroom once last year and came back to find the line "And it blew up" tacked onto the end of his paragraph.

But, he went with it. Left it in, and carried on for a few thousand more words, so it must have been worth it. lol. Give it a try and see what happens.

That is my brother's dog's name

message 77: by Leslie (new)

Leslie Lara | 4 comments I have 16k :(. I didn't write all weekend because I was doing A.P. lit homework and Orchestra homework! :(

message 78: by Juliann (new)

Juliann (tea_lady) I'm at 9,205 words right now. I show almost nothing the first week and now my stats chart on nanowrimo.org looks like I'm taking off. I am not hitting any walls, and I'm not having to use filler. The story just seems to be coming fast because there's so much I want to put in there and the time hasn't been right in the plot. I feel lucky, inspired, happy. And if I can kick out over 3000 words in one day (I did), then all of you can too!

message 79: by Marlene (new)

Marlene (marlene1001) Right you are. I started four days late and more than gained what I had lost. My story just keeps going on and often has me tagging along in its wake.
For everyone who is desperate at the moment: If I could make it, so can you.
(Im at 35k at the moment, so...) ;)

message 80: by Derekica (new)

Derekica Snake (kiix) | 8 comments it's like pecking out hen's teeth, and what I mean by that is pecking another nanowritmo chicken to death and stealing their teeth...it's not pretty people

Standing at 8753 on the 15th.

Doc (doc_coleman) | 12 comments If you're having trouble writing... maybe you're trying to write the wrong book?

Doc

message 82: by Derekica (new)

Derekica Snake (kiix) | 8 comments True I have many brands in the fire and I chose this one because it's the end of the series. I will get it done. Oh yes, I will. It's just taking more time than the other two books before it. Nanowrimo 2009 saw the first book - Neko-laus get completed. N2 was done at a more leisurely pace. N3 will be done by the end of the year come hell or highwater.

message 83: by Derekica (new)

Derekica Snake (kiix) | 8 comments guess what! The story doesn't want to be written on the computer. I pulled out a notebook and a pen and away we go!!

message 84: by Montana (new)

Montana (rradical) | 10 comments I'm at 45,682 words. I keep forgetting to update my profile everyday though. But still! I'm so close. After 3 years of failed attempts, I'll finally complete it this year. I'm beyond proud of myself!

Good luck to everyone! I hope everything is coming along smoothly. c:

message 85: by Jean (new)

Jean (duettists) | 6 comments I've written about 41,000 words and I will use the rest of the time left to flesh it out to 50,000 words and do some serious editing and proof-reading on it. The book will still need a lot of work after the end of the month, but the discipline of NaNoWriMo has given me the opportunity to put ideas I have had in my mind for some time into a novel with a beginning, middle and an end.

I hope everyone's novels are progressing well.

message 86: by [deleted user] (new)

i guess this is the month i didn't write. Been writing all along, but being sick stopped everything. i know you are supposed to write - even on your deathbed, but a toddler and teenagers and a house in a state of chaos - well, all i can do is pick up where i left off. Congrats to all of you who've endured - very impressive :)

message 87: by Montana (new)

Montana (rradical) | 10 comments I've finally finished! I'm beyond proud right now. 3 years of failure and finally, success! A total of 68,321 words.

I hope everyone's coming along well!

message 88: by Jean (new)

Jean (duettists) | 6 comments I finished my book today and had it validated. It certainly gave me some satisfaction to know that I have managed to turn my random thoughts into a novel of 52,424 words!

message 89: by Derekica (new)

Derekica Snake (kiix) | 8 comments I got to 16317 words! Since I was only aiming for 15k it's a win!

message 90: by S.R. (new)

S.R. Torris | 15 comments Yes. I even had to re-write my story because my characters weren't talking to me. Now I'm onward and forward and waiting to see if I can finish by December... Good Luck!
