RandomAnthony | 14536 comments Ok, it's time for some new moderators. I'm going to add Jim (who's practically a moderator anyway), Sarah Pi, Bunwat and Janine. Why these four?

1. Jim's practically a moderator anyway. I think I said that.
2. Sarah Pi is reasonable, reflective, and has many of the same tastes in women as I do.
3. Janine's international perspective and unique commentary are cool. Plus she's in a way different time zone.
4. Bunwat isn't going to take shit from anyone and she's reasonable and funny and encourages my baking.

Now, please don't think that if you're not a moderator either me or the other moderators don't like you. I'm making this shit up off the top of my head at 5:44AM, and I've been up since two. These are the first four names that popped in my mind. Some people have already told me in the past they don't want to moderate, too.

Also, Jim, Sarah Pi, and Bunwat, and Janine, I didn't ask you to be moderators, so if you don't want your name listed as a moderator, go ahead and take yours off, I understand. I know some of you are moderators in other groups, and might consider this addition a drag. Sarah, esp., I know you're crazy busy. But let me explain. I'm going to be more on the Heidi/Sally schedule for the next couple months, not here more than a shot or two a day, tops, and I won't be starting as many threads. So if I were to distill the moderator jobs into three points, they would be 1) delete obvious spam, 2) kick out obvious assholes, 3) converse. Between the eight of us moderators we should be able to keep that going. Strength in numbers and all that.

Now, if you're not a moderator, please feel free to start threads, etc., too. TC thrives because so many of us are invested and converse regularly. When I'm not here for a couple days I'm gratified to see the conversations continue. The board's health can't rely on any one person or small group of people.

Oh, I think I broke moderator protocol by not checking with Sally, Heidi, and Kevin on this. I know that they'd be ok with these four people, though, so I'm not worried. Sorry, guys. Forgive my middle of the night impulsive behavior.

Oh, and everybody? Have fun. This is a message board where people come to hang out, exchange ideas, and feel less alone in the world. Sometimes fun is arguing politics. Sometimes fun is comparing our perspective of Larry's freakishly long legs. Sometimes fun is comparing our thoughts on rocker chicks. Sometimes our fun is all this, books, and more. Have fun.

Group hug

Jonathan Lopez | 4726 comments Gefeliciteerd = Congratulations

Sounds like a lot like the English word "felicitations" but with ghe sound in front.

Here ends today's Dutch lesson. There will be a test in December.

message 21: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) I love Dutch tests. I have no idea what that means, though. But Janine can test me anytime.

message 22: by Jonathan (new)

Jonathan Lopez | 4726 comments Are you prepared for the ice-skating component?

message 23: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) Mais oui.

message 24: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments Do we get Dutch treats if we pass the Dutch test? Or do we just go Dutch?

THe only question I have is why all the mods, when TC practically runs itself because we are so great we have hardly any problems!

That's a compliment to all of you.

Cosmic Sher (sherart) | 2234 comments Yea! Congrats (& let me know the ways in which I can kiss butt/schmoooooooze so I don't get booted for my far-out cosmic neuroses). :P

Johnathan, I've always wanted to ask someone of authority on the Dutch. Are Dutch Babies really Dutch? (They are rumored to be German, after all...) Either way, they are delicious!

message 38: by Jonathan (last edited Nov 07, 2010 04:52AM) (new)

Jonathan Lopez | 4726 comments I'm not familiar with Dutch Babies. I just googled the term: a sweet pancake popular on the west coast? The Dutch do have fantastic pancakes including small ones called poffertjes that come in many varieties. But they look a bit different from the Dutch Babies that I see on the web. Maybe Janine could give you more info. She's really Dutch. I'm just an American poser.

Poffertjes:

Cosmic Sher (sherart) | 2234 comments Mmmmmm.... you know, I don't think I much care what kind of pancakes they are or where they come from, I love them all!

We have a recipe for knockerleins that melt in your mouth. It's like eating angel fluff... oy! So good!

My husband keeps raving about them but I've never had them. They could be German in the same way that the Pensylvanian Dutch are actually of German descent.

message 41: by janine (new)

janine | 7709 comments i've never heard of dutch babies and don't recognize them so they're probably not really dutch. poffertjes are great though (but a pain in the ass to make because they're so small and you'll need a lot), as is poffert:

Janine, that looks incredibly delicious! did you just whip it up this morning?

message 45: by janine (new)

janine | 7709 comments sadly poffert is not the kind of thing you just whip up. it needs to cook for 2 or 3 hours i think and you'll need one of these:

i'll patiently wait until my mother makes it again in january for my father's birthday.
