John I need help. I read a really good book several years ago but I can't remember the title to save my life. I'm hoping that someone out there has also read it and remembers the title. Here's what I do remember:

The genre was Christian fiction. I think the title was just one word. The story was set in the future and centers around a doctor whose son has hemophilia. He has managed to hide his son's condition because if the government finds out, the child will be executed. That's because all babies with medical defects are euthanized. In this same family, the grandfather has reached the age where he must be euthanized because society has decided that it is better to kill the elderly than care for them in nursing homes.

I can give additional details, but I don't want to ruin the end of the book for those who haven't read it. Anyone remember the name of the book or the author?

Karendenice | 39 comments I have absolutely no idea. But the book sounds great. I will keep watch here in case anybody figures it out. Meanwhile happy hunting!

John It was a great book, and shows what the world could be like if we continue to turn a blind eye to partial-birth abortion and mercy killings. I would love to read it again . . . if I can remember the name.

Amanda Stephan (amandastephan) | 140 comments I'm not sure if she's the author, but it sounds similar to the way Margaret Peterson Haddix writes. One series she wrote (The Shadow Children) was how the government only allows two children per household & the children rise up against the government. Don't know if this helps or not. But when you find it, please let us know! I'd like to read it!

John Hooray!!! The lost has been found. I posted this same thread at the "Christian Readers" group, and Donald was able to identify it for me.

The name of the book is "Winterflight" by Joseph Bayly. What is so increadible about this book is that it was written in 1981, long before partial-birth abortions and physician-assisted suicide were in practice.

While the original book is out of print, I was excited to find a 25th anniversary edition on Amazon (click here). I can't wait to get a copy and read it again. Unfortunately, it isn't available for Kindle.

Winterflight: A Novel
