I finished Simple Gifts yesterday, 2/3. This story was good, but could have been great. Caught my attention right away but in the end I felt that it could have used more backstory on the two guys, especially Robb. I did enjoy it but I wanted more explanation of their history together. 3.5*

I have started to read the 'Stuff my Stocking' anthology and have a question... as it is a collection of short stories, is it okay to skim some that are really cringe worthy? Some of them are really good, but I just can't bring myself to read others. They feel like badly written fanfiction - but without the bonus of me already knowing and liking the characters

I read Dudleytown (as first in the series with Simple Gifts). 5 stars.I loved it for such a short story. It conveyed great atmosphere, had a decent mystery, a well executed attraction and kept me engaged through to the end. :) I'll be reading more by this author!
Jane,I have Simple Gifts if you ever want to borrow it. It's loanable from Amazon. It wasn't great but it was good.

I actually bought it at the same time as Dudleytown and have since read it, but thanks Fran. It wasn't anywhere near as good as Dudleytown - more 3.5 stars.
Valerie ~Varuca~ wrote: "Finished Life Lessons today, and absolutely loved it! 4.5* (rounded to 5 for GR)....now I'm off to pick up Breaking Cover-can't wait to read more of Tony and Mac"Isn't it fantastic?! I loved both books :)
Jane, if you want to post here that you finished Simple Gifts then it will count towards the next list. Maybe we will get some more m/m choices if that one has the highest number :)
I finished
with 3 1/2 stars.I enjoyed it, but was hoping for a little bit more from the main character. I am not sure how Plum will bumble her way through 17 more stories, but will attempt a few
Remind me to stop using a touch screen, and stop posting when I am half asleep! Sorry for the errors!
Fran wrote: "Jane, if you want to post here that you finished Simple Gifts then it will count towards the next list. Maybe we will get some more m/m choices if that one has the highest number :)"I thought Dudleytown did that? ...Can I be counted twice in the one listing?
Well = if so, I finished Simple Gifts too on 13 February :) 3.5 stars
It didn't have the same atmosphere as the first Cornwall novella. Different characters and completely different plot in this second book - which is good. I enjoyed the book. But some of the MC's motivations were a bit hazy and tied together with bits of string.
Dudleytown counts for you towards completing the challenge but only reading the exact book counts towards the next list. Now there are 2 for Simple Gifts:)I thought the premise was great, I really liked how it began. He not knowing the other one was going to be there when he walked up the steps to the front door...but I agree, hazy backstory, motives.
Huh! I thought if I read a book in the same series, it actually counted toward the next book calculations... oh well.
@ JaneFran is right. Only the exact book counts toward the next list. Books in the same series only counts for having participated in the challenge but usually does not have voting power unless a tie is involved.
I finished listening to Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter yesterday. It was pretty interesting, I gave it 3.5 stars.

Well there you go! ...It wouldn't have changed my reading choices I don't think, but it's good to know :)
I finished An Irresistible Bachelor for An Unforgettable Lady yesterday. At first, I was extremely annoyed with the hero, and was ready to rate the book low. However, by the middle of the story, I felt that it had improved. When it was over, it left me feeling contented, so I decided to give this book 4 stars.
Quick question - if I read a different book in the series ( i.e. One fo the Money instead of Two For The Dough) does it not count for the challenge?

Thanks - that is what I thought. However when I wasn't listed as competing the challenge I wasn't sure. I will try to read the correct one by Sunday - but the library did not have it in as of Sunday...
Nicola,Yz must have missed your earlier post where you posted that you finished One For The Money. I'm sure she will add it to the list and you will get credit for completing the list even though it won't count towards the next list.
No problem -- I just wanted to make sure I was doing the challenges right. I am nt worried about being missed - sorry!
so, if Club Shadowlands doesn't count for selecting the next one, can I add another book? I thought as well that any book of the series counted...And in general, can I be counted for more than one book if I read them while the challenge goes on?
@ NicolaSorry. I must have overlook your post when I was reading the thread. I got too focused with the conversation between Jane and Fran. I've updated the list to reflect your progress.
@ Yvonne
Yes, you can read more than one book for any list, as long as you read the book/s within the challenge period.

Just finished
. I give it 5 stars!I am really enjoying this series so far. Book #2 was full of laughs and the cast of characters are fabulous. I can't wait to pick up Three to Get Deadly as soon as it becomes available from my local library!

No worries - sometimes these conversations do get pretty interesting!
I just wanted to make sure I didn't have to read another book that quick. I don't want to be up all night trying to finish my monthly challenge book again this month!
Random Book List #66I read Two for the Dough for this challenge. I don't know why I waited so long to read the next book out of this series but it was awesome! Lots better than the first. Debbie Reynolds plays Stephanie Plums grandma in the movie and she did a really good job. The grandma plays a big role in this novel so it would be awesome if they made another movie off of this one! *****

I have been delaying reading this series for a long time and ignoring people who urged me to read it. But now I don't see nothing more interesting, so I will go for: The Color of Magic. :)
I've read a few of the Dark Hunter series by Sherrilyn Kenyon and enjoyed them. So I will read either Night Play or maybe Somebody Killed His Editor.
I think I will read A Nanny for Nate as it is free and money is tight. Somebody Killed His Editor sounds interesting too and if I run out of books to read I might even read The Color of Magic again - as if I'd ever run out of books I haven't read yet LOL
Yvonne wrote: "I think I will read A Nanny for Nate as it is free and money is tight. Somebody Killed His Editor sounds interesting too and if I run out of books to read I might eve..."Money is tight here too - where are you getting the freebie?
Nicola wrote: Money is tight here too - where are you getting the freebie? just go to the book page, then you can get the ebook there

Ah - the read online option... I just can't quite commit to reading on the computer (online) when I could be slouching with my ereader or surfing goodreads!
Yvonne wrote: "Nicola wrote: Money is tight here too - where are you getting the freebie? just go to the book page, then you can get the ebook there"
Yvonne,
I checked it out and it's only a small sample of the book that is free to read online. At the bottom of the sample is an offer to buy the rest of the book for 5.99.
Fran wrote: "I checked it out and it's only a small sample of the book that is free to read online"Darn it, that's not really clear when you look at the page... They could at least say that it's just a sample
I know! That's happened to me before- I thought it was the whole book and it turned out to be a sample :(It really shouldn't say 'read ebook'
Fran wrote: "I know! That's happened to me before- I thought it was the whole book and it turned out to be a sample :(It really shouldn't say 'read ebook'"
Well, I guess I'll have to see what my library holds then - or I'll re-read Terry Pratchett, that's always good
I finished A Nanny for Nate today 3/15. I really enjoyed it. I wish it had been a little longer and the relationship and its complications given a little more time to explore. But I really liked it, 4*
