Andrea Kristi, this came out great and I love the flooring!

message 352: by Kristi (new)

Kristi (kristicoleman) Thanks! We are really loving it! It feels so much cleaner, now Trav can't wait to get the rest of the basement floor done!! I love a motivated man! Maybe over the Thanksgiving break?

The only issue with the "Den" (other room in the basement") is we have a whole wall of brick to remove...tough work, plus a fireplace insert to replace! But I think the Library floor is sufficient motivation for him though, so I may get my new floor completed sooner than I thought!! Yay!

message 353: by Sera (new)

Sera Kristi, the new room looks great! I could get very comfortable on that couch, reading a chunkster :)

Andrea, I still have to read The Invisible Bridge, too. I continue to be overcommitted with The Brothers K, Infinite Jest and now Bleak House, but I will continue to catch up. I guess what is distracting me from my chunksters is other chunksters - ha ha ha.

message 354: by Andrea (new)

Andrea Can you keep the brick? I love exposed brick and it it is not pretty brick you could paint it a nice clean white pr anything really!

Sera I read BK for 2 hours yesterday!

message 355: by Kristi (new)

Kristi (kristicoleman) nah, the brick is ugly and it's right where I would put a TV...it must go. It's all good though, it's gonna look beautiful with a new paint job and a new wood burning stove insert...and new floor...and a bit of tile...and...

Yeah, I'm a little in love with this renovation...lol.

Andrea Your poor hubby..hehehe

Andrea Yup!!!!

message 360: by Ginny (new)

Ginny I want a nice library in my house now! So I will probably show the picture to my husband ( who works masonry/construction) and he will feel pressured and then tell me I can't go to this group anymore.... kidding, of course. We've been married for a little over a year; I brought two teenage girls and a cat and a dog into his bachelor house (that he lived quite comfortably in by himself for over 10 years) and he has done a lot of work making this place our home (we have helped too). Still can't help having a little library envy though, sigh...

message 361: by Andrea (new)

Andrea Make a small reading nook if you can't have a full library. Get a couple of small shelves and a cozy chair and create a little reading spot!

Kristi (kristicoleman) Andrea wrote: "Make a small reading nook if you can't have a full library. Get a couple of small shelves and a cozy chair and create a little reading spot!"

Yep, that's what I had before...I've been waiting and planning my little renovation for 2 years now. I just had a cushy chair and a couple bookcases and a cup of tea...it was comfy!

message 363: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie Hello all, I am getting distracted by my job...and, when my job overwhelms me I turn to fluff books...I've read too many to name this year and I really like to read Les Misérables and I'd like to finish Infinite Jest. Ugh.

message 364: by ayanami (new)

ayanami Stephanie, I totally know what you mean about reading fluff when you're busy with work.. I've been doing the same. I'm just too exhausted from my job to be able to have the mental energy to tackle a harder book.

message 365: by Sera (new)

Sera To finish everything that I am currently reading by year's end, I won't be able to get to The Invisible Bridge until January. I am happy to hear that everyone is enjoying it. I look forward to reading it, albeit a bit late :)

message 366: by Andrea (new)

Andrea I'm so far behind with my reading, like many of you I'm in work overload and it has to come before fun.

message 367: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne (thysanura) Been crazy busy here with house stuff, holidays, and writing. I've been working on a novel and am hoping to finish the draft by the end of the year. Getting so close!

I miss reading here though. I thought of you guys when I saw the Kindle Daily Deal this morning and wanted to share:

Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell for $1.99. :)

Hope you guys are doing well! (What a wonderful reading space, Kristi!! *jealous!*)

what books have you been reading? i'll show you my list if you show me yours!? :D

message 369: by Becky (new)

Becky Ugh this move is killing. We should be all settled in our house by mid-Jan then I can read my little heart out! I miss my books!

message 370: by Andrea (new)

Andrea Suzanne, congrats on your writing!

Becky, good luck on your house!

message 371: by Sera (new)

Sera Happy New Year!

I need to finish up Bleak House before our next Chunkster read :) I'll also be reading The Invisible Bridge sometime this month. Even though I missed the group read, I'll head back to the threads and chime in once I get there.

message 372: by Andrea (new)

Andrea I have 80 pages left in BK, I'm hoping to finish it tomorrow!

I have several other books going right now including
Love Anthony by Lisa Genova
Bridge of Sighs by Richard Russo
Shadow of Night (All Souls Trilogy, #2) by Deborah Harkness
Sing Them Home A Novel by Stephanie Kallos and I'm giving one last try to

message 373: by Becky (new)

Becky I hope you do Sera, I am personally still heavy with the Invisible Bridge.

message 374: by JoLene (new)

JoLene (trvl2mtns) I just joined the group so I'm not participating in any group read, but I am reading my own chunksters: A Storm of Swords as well as Code Name Verity.
I am also getting ready to listen to: The Secret Keeper which will be my first foray into audio books.

message 375: by Sera (new)

Sera Becky wrote: "I hope you do Sera, I am personally still heavy with the Invisible Bridge."

I am so glad to hear that!

So my reading plan has changed. After Bleak House, Les Mis is on tap. Invisible Bridge is up after Bring Up the Bodies.

I'll see you in the threads :)

message 376: by Andrea (new)

Andrea Welcome JoLene! You picked a good time to join as we will be starting new books soon. One is almost done and the other we have started nominations for. Feel free to jump in and let us know if you have any questions.

message 377: by Kristi (new)

Kristi (kristicoleman) I've been reading a bunch of books that I'm loving!

Love the re-model!

I should post pictures f my shelves sometime...

message 380: by Kristi (new)

Kristi (kristicoleman) Yep..it's pretty awesome, we actually just finished the TV room this weekend and had our new couches delivered today..I'll have to post those pics soon. I LOVE the new TV room and Library! Can't wait to do the rest of the house, but at the same time I need a break to just enjoy the ones I've re-done.

I'd love to see your shelves!!

Andrea (tasseled) | 189 comments Other chunksters are distracting me from the current chunksters. It's like a never-ending circle. Big books everywhere!

Shōgun by James Clavell The Three Musketeers by Alexandre Dumas The Long Ships by Frans G. Bengtsson The Arabian Nights Tales of 1001 Nights, Volume 1 by Anonymous The Song of the Dodo Island Biogeography in an Age of Extinction by David Quammen

Andrea, would like to do a buddy-read? Shōgun by James Clavell is sitting on my shelf and beckoning me:-) How far are you in the novel?

message 383: by Andrea (new)

Andrea (tasseled) | 189 comments Andrea, would like to do a buddy-read?

Absolutely! I am only about 200 pages in, so considering the length of the novel, I am pretty much in the beginning. I need some buddy motivation to offer this book as much attention as it deserves.

message 384: by Zulfiya (new)

Zulfiya (ztrotter) If you are willing to be patient and give me some catch-up time I am more than willing to be tempted;-) I will start tonight:-)

message 385: by Becky (new)

Becky Pooh can I hop into that buddy read? I've had that book for a year now...

message 386: by Zulfiya (new)

Zulfiya (ztrotter) Becky, it will make me feel much better because I have not even read a page. Andrea is ahead of me, so it is easier to play catch-up together:-)

message 387: by Becky (new)

Becky Hooray! I'll start tonight as well. Have I mentioned that this is seriously the best group ever? I love the readers here!

message 388: by Kristi (new)

Kristi (kristicoleman) want me to post a thread for yall?

message 389: by Andrea (new)

Andrea (tasseled) | 189 comments I will certainly wait. It's not like I don't have anything else to read at the moment :P. I will probably flip through the beginning again to refresh my memory!

message 390: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (michelle8731) Ooh, that book sounds good. If I can get a hold of it soon, I'd be interested in reading it as well!

Considering that we are having so many interested participants, I think it would be a great idea if we get a thread for discussion. Thank you!

Your thread is up in the Side-reads section. Enjoy! I'm tempted to join in too, but I have too many books going as it is!

Alana (alanasbooks) | 456 comments My reading stack got so big recently that I've just been hurrying through a lot of short books so I feel more accomplished ("short" to me is anything less than 300 pages). I'm so used to reading super long ones that those books go by and I'm surprised that I've finished them so fast.
