Support your local library and borrow some books for free :)

Amanda (peanutty222) | 529 comments I try to get 90% of my book from the library, but if it is a new release and it's a big hit, usually I just buy it instead of the waiting list at the library. I am 235th in line for Wicked Appetite (The Unmentionables, #1) by Janet Evanovich , but I've heard it's just o.k., so I won't justify buying it. i'll wait the 6 months it'll take to get it.

message 54: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Amanda I just finished Wicked Appetite on audio and it was just ok - no rush there.

That really stinks cause I loved Stephanie Plum. I wasn't fond of the Alex Barnaby series (motor mouth) so I had high hopes for Wicked Appetite.

It is still a fun light read, so worth it whenever it comes in. Plus it has the monkey (Carl)!

message 57: by Lloyd (new)

Lloyd | 415 comments I just got The Lost Hero (The Heroes of Olympus, #1) by Rick Riordan and Fatal Error (Repairman Jack, #14) by F. Paul Wilson in the mail. Sadly, I'm only about half finished with The Red Pyramid (Kane Chronicles, #1) by Rick Riordan so I have to wait. :(

Oh, a quick question for anyone who owns a Kindle. Can you read them in the dark? (Are they backlit?)

Hillary (eledri) | 24 comments No ereader that I have seen is backlit. It's just like reading from a page of a book just minus the dead-tree in your hand. They make attachable lights just like the ones you can buy and clip on a book, but these dont get in the way.

I am just going to wait for paperback. I'm not in a super rush, I like Deisel but I had a feeling it wouldn't be as good as a Stephanie Plum book.

The Kindle isn't backlit, but you can buy a holder that comes with a built-in light. My Kindle cover is red leather with two connecting prongs that power the light using the Kindle's battery. Having the light is so cool! I love that it retracts into the cover when not in use. It's a little pricey ($59.-) but worth it!

I've read the first one of that series which is quite funny. :) It's actually set very near me. Plus there are nursery rhyme characters :D

Wendy, hope you enjoy it :)

message 68: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Those nursery rhyme mysteries look cute. I added the first one :)

message 69: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) It'll be a while before I read it, but I'm pretty excited.

message 70: by Becca (new)

Becca | 1608 comments So excited!!! Just brought home Finnikin of the Rock from the library. If it's anywhere in the ballpark of Graceling I'm pretty much stoked.

message 71: by Tracy T. (new)

Tracy T. The Nursery Crimes books are great. I cannot wait until the next one in the series. Then again, in my mind, Jasper Fforde can do no wrong with anything he writes.

Wayyyyy better than Graceling, though they aren't along the same lines if that makes sense. World building is where the similarities stop.

Oh and be sure to check back in and let us know when you love it.

Becca, as someone who is still on my Finnikin high, I would have to agree with Peep that it's better than Graceling. (although I rated them both 5 star books)

message 74: by Becca (new)

Becca | 1608 comments Oh, you don't have to sell me on it. I wasn't expecting a Graceling story, just a five star story.

Brittany (finally graduated and can once again read for fun) | 1328 comments Becca, after you read the book you can join our cause... (see Finnikin thread for more info)

I've never heard of that series *googles*

Gwennie (blessedwannab) Oh jeez!! I have to avoid the Finnikin thread at all costs until I've read the book!

Trying to force my way through the second North & South book.

There aren't any spoilers, it's mainly just us all agreeing how good it is.

message 82: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) I actually couldn't help myself and went to look, lol. Reading about how much you guys love it makes me so much more eager to finally read it.

message 83: by Peep (Pop! Pop!) (new)

Peep (Pop! Pop!) *evil laugh* Next stop, world domination! (Apologies if I've used that line before).

So when are you going to start it??

message 84: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) As soon as I finish this book I'm reading now, except it's 1078 pages, lol. Probably by next weekend I'll have it started. That's my plan anyway.

message 85: by Jill (new)

Jill | 68 comments Revolution by Jennifer Donnelly is fantastic. I am half way through and can't stop reading!

Doesn't the Frostbite cover look like the Buffy/Angel poster!

Frostbite (Vampire Academy, #2) by Richelle Mead
http://goodcomics.comicbookresources....

message 88: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Piper that is what I always think when I see it too!

message 89: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) It looks absolutely exactly like the Buffy Angel poster. So much so that I would say they copied it.

message 90: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (peanutty222) | 529 comments My library stack this week is I Heart You, You Haunt Me by Lisa Schroeder , Dirty Little Secrets by C.J. Omololu , The Knife of Never Letting Go (Chaos Walking, #1) by Patrick Ness and Shade (Shade, #1) by Jeri Smith-Ready which I read already, but I am going to read again.
I'll probably fly through I heart you, you haunt me, since it's written in prose and will go quick. I've heard really good things about The Knife of Never Letting Go so I am excited about getting into it.

message 91: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Yeah! Knife of Never Letting Go. It is very weird at the start, but stick with it!

you're right, piper, it does.. :)

message 93: by Evelyn (new)

Evelyn | 13 comments Fool Moon (The Dresden Files, #2) by Jim Butcher
I've been in the mood for something with werewolves in. :)

Rach (pagesofpiper) (piperbunny) Today I checked out:
Angel (Angel Trilogy, #1) by L. A. Weatherly and Les Divine Chocolate Desserts (Petits Plats Francais) by Jose Marechal (in English)

message 95: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) I just picked up Dark Lover (Black Dagger Brotherhood, #1) by J.R. Ward , The Knife of Never Letting Go (Chaos Walking, #1) by Patrick Ness and Ender's Game (Ender's Saga, #1) by Orson Scott Card . Except my copy of Enders Game looks like this, Ender's Game (Ender's Saga, #1) by Orson Scott Card which kind of makes me nervous. GoodReads says it's the same book, it is the same author... but it looks so different. Not to mention that even though I know we're not to judge a book by it's cover, but the copy I got just doesn't look at all like a book I'd like...

message 96: by Tiphaine (new)

Tiphaine | 71 comments Wendy said : (...)but the copy I got just doesn't look at all like a book I'd like...
Ender's Game is Sci-fi so I think the cover of your book is actually more appropriate than the other! If you like a bit of Sci-fi, you will love this, it really is amazing!

I have around 20 books ready to be ordered on amazon but since I'm not home I can't buy them yet! Here's some of them:
Feast of Fools (The Morganville Vampires, #4) by Rachel Caine Shadow's Edge (Night Angel, #2) by Brent Weeks Unholy Magic (Downside Ghosts, #2) by Stacia Kane The Knife of Never Letting Go (Chaos Walking, #1) by Patrick Ness Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins The Body Finder by Kimberly Derting Clockwork Angel (The Infernal Devices, # 1) by Cassandra Clare Book of Shadows (Sweep, #1) by Cate Tiernan Spy Glass (Glass, #3) by Maria V. Snyder Fire (The Seven Kingdoms, #2) by Kristin Cashore

I can't wait!

message 97: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) Honestly, I don't think I've ever read a Sci-Fi book before. I've read Fantasy but this seems different. Everyone was raving about it so I decided to pick it up. So far everyones opinions havent steered me too wrong...

message 98: by Becca (new)

Becca | 1608 comments Ender's Game isn't the Sci-Fi you think about when you think Sci-Fi. I see it more as a dystopian novel with a sci-fi twist.

message 99: by Becca (new)

Becca | 1608 comments And it is oh so good.

Brittany (finally graduated and can once again read for fun) | 1328 comments Yes, I really liked Ender's Game... and the copy I got from the library was that same cover so don't be scared.
