Awesomevegan (AKA JenReads) (awesomevegan) | 325 comments The library is my new friend. I have been listening to audiobooks and getting ebooks from mine. I bet I could get even more if I ventured into paper books. Plus the books I own would hold me over for much longer than a month but I admit I love to buy them too, whether in paper or ebook form. Good luck on your personal challenge/pledge. :) Also find out if your library is part of a network so that you can get books from other cities/towns. I know I can with mine.

Heidi Ashley wrote: "Well we do have a library, although not a great one... I do have some books I haven't read yet that should hold me over, but I buy books constantly... I can't help myself ha. I love them!!!"

I checked your libraries website (I saw your town by your name here on GR - please don't think I am crazy!) and it appears that your library is involved with an Interlibrary Loan Program with the State of Texas, so I am fairly certain your library should be able to get you any book you want even if they do no have it. I know it is not the same as owning your own copy, but it is a start. You can also still buy books - maybe just only buy one per month so it will be more special to you. Hope that helps!

Thanks, guys! =)
Heidi, I'll have to check into the Interlibrary Loan thing... & I really do need to cut back on my book buying, the once a month thing might be a good idea.
Catie, I have done a few swaps on here... Very cool!

Awesomevegan (AKA JenReads) (awesomevegan) | 325 comments I love the once a month idea! I don't know if I could stick with it... I tend to go crazy in December (birthday and Christmas gift cards!) So I spend all my money at once and it is a dumb thing to do because I always see so many other books I want throughout the year. Maybe 1-2 books a month I could do. Then I could get free shipping from Amazon (if it is one I want in paper.)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) Heidi - I think we're the wrong people to sponser each other. An addict can't help an addict. I say, get you're audiobooks, Girl!

Catie - I was reading the conversation in the Hunger Games thread. It made me curious about Winter's Bone. As soon as I read about it I immediately bought it. It sounds excellent.

I also got Beastly by Alex Flinn today. It was the last copy in Walmart. I normally would have bought on Kindle or at Borders but my Borders is closing, they were sold out and it is 2 dollars more on Kindle. What's up with that right? I have been seeing that a lot lately. So I am reading it now already. Poor little Nightshade (Nightshade, #1) by Andrea Cremer is getting ignored...

message 676: by Arphaxad (new)

Arphaxad | 335 comments Finally managed to get Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (Harry Potter, #4) by J.K. Rowling Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (Harry Potter, #5) by J.K. Rowling from the library today! I've been waiting for a whole, painful week... :D

Gotta get it read before April 22nd. My co-worker friend and I are going to take time off work to go see it the day it comes out. Squee!

message 680: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Catie I can understand your comments. I have changed my rating from 3 to 4 stars more than once. In the end I think it is worth the read though so I have stuck with 4 stars.

Indeed it is, though my work disagrees; I keep accidentally overextending my lunch breaks! Oops..

yes, I loved the audio for this book. I only got 1/2 way through (something weird with the download) and I'm waiting impatiently to get my hands on it again to finish.

Water for Elephants is a brilliant book! Absolutely loved it!

Awesomevegan (AKA JenReads) (awesomevegan) | 325 comments Yesterday I went and got MORE books. This is the most in a week since I went crazy after the holidays with gift cards. I got:

Looking for Alaska by John Green Lock and Key by Sarah Dessen The New Vegan Cookbook Innovative Vegetarian Recipes Free of Dairy, Eggs, and Cholesterol by Lorna Sass
(different cover on the last one but it isn't showing under "other editions")

I don't need to buy any more books for a while. I am stockpiling like a squirrel. I am crazy. Between paper, Kindle and Netgalley on my Sony I have years of reading material. That isn't even counting free classics. I think I have a problem...

message 686: by Alyssa (new)

Alyssa (shyluck13) | 124 comments I got some awesomeness at Walmart a couple minutes ago. Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen and Red Riding Hood by Sarah Blakley-Cartwright - both I bought to read before the movies come out. My next to-buy-at-Walmart is Revolution by Jennifer Donnelly . That is, of course, when I get my monthly muchos back...

message 687: by Awesomevegan (AKA JenReads) (last edited Mar 06, 2011 02:16PM) (new)

Awesomevegan (AKA JenReads) (awesomevegan) | 325 comments Oh and because I can't possibly have plenty to read... I checked out from my library:
Pretty Little Liars (Pretty Little Liars, #1) by Sara Shepard in audio format and Rival by Sara Bennett Wealer in ebook because I remembered it being in someone's haul on YouTube and I couldn't remember why I wanted to read it but there it was as a new addition to the digital catalog calling to me. I was surprised no one beat me to it with either of those!

Lock and Key's good Awesomevegan! For some reason I love Sarah Dessen's works, I like the life lessons and realizations for young adults and I guess the way I can relate to some of them. My favorite would be [book:The Truth about Forever|51737].

Monica (nutz4reading) | 33 comments Yesterday after I got home from work I found my ER book Gone with a Handsomer Man by Michael Lee West in my mail box. Just glad the book wasn't missing since the envelope was opened.

message 700: by Traci (last edited Mar 08, 2011 11:16AM) (new)

Traci sooo my roommate and I went to two Half Price Books yesterday... and somehow I came out with 17 books. It baffles me. On the plus side, I had $30 on a gift card, so in the end I only spent $28 of my own! pretty awesome.

However, I now have over 30 books on my shelf that have yet to be read. This is an issue haha
