Ryan Kennedy (ryanscottkennedy) | 2 comments Hi, n00b librarian trying to clean something up. There's a Kindle edition and a paperback edition of the same book:

http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/90...
should be combined into:
http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/74...

The manual says:
1. Separate the duplicate and its actual edition from any other editions of that book.
2. Combine them just with each other.

How do I do point 2? I kind of need 'click this' sort of instructions as it isn't clear at all.

thanks

The instructions you are citing are for combining true duplicates, not two editions of the same work (which is what you have here). Try these instead.

And welcome! :)

Grey (spaceharper) | 10 comments Perhaps we should have [if we don't already] a Librarians' Glossary? The technical meanings of "combine" and "merge" specific to Goodreads often seem to confuse new librarians (understandably).

That's not a bad idea. Rather than a separate glossary, I think entries in the Manual might be better.

Someone want to write up suggested definitions (or an entry called "combine v. merge") and post them in the add to the manual folder? (I know I have a backlog there, but I will get to them eventually!)

Ryan Kennedy (ryanscottkennedy) | 2 comments Thanks! That was the tiniest link ever - lucky I know how to use Ctrl-F.
