Kymebal stephenie meyer is a great writer! jk rowling is an okay writer. i think stephenie meyer's books are more relateable. i know there are no such things as vampires or werewolves, but bella is pretty much a normal girl. the meat of the book is that a girl moves to a new school and she doesn't fit in. she falls in love with a boy who also is different. bella is going through a lot of the same things a normal girl goes through. she has to adjust to a new school and she has a crush on a boy. jk rowling's books are very hard to connect to your own life. what are the chances of a person's parents dying because of a spell and then going to a magic school? very little to no chances.
stephenie's meyer's writing is also fun to read. jk rowling's writing is a little repetative. harry potter goes to school, he fights voldemort and wins. i knew what was going to happen at the end of the book. i got bored, and that is the reason i didn't finish the 7th book. stephenie meyer changes it up a bit. sometimes she is fighting a vampire, and other times she is trying to be normal, or at least seem like she is living a normal life without all the supernatural stuff. also the werewolves was a big twist. i did not see that one coming, okay maybe i did, but i didn't think that there would be so many werewolves.

Alex wow i like the way you put that on paper...or on the internet i should say.

Mindy (bookluvrmindy) I don't think they can be compared...JK Rowling is extremely creative, she uses adventure, twists, and always ties information from previous books into current books. She has so much to right about that she does not put in full details. Stephenie Meyer's writing is all about feeling every emotion and describing every detail (you can almost taste it) putting you right there in the same situation and sucking you in. At the same time Stephenie Meyer's books are GREAT but a lot if the outcomes are predictable.

Meghan | 56 comments I personally like J.K. Rowling better. I like her plots and her characters a lot more. But Twilight was awesome too! OOOOO this is hard. I agree with Mindy. Their writing styles are so different. I don't really think they can be compared.

Alex I like your choice of words! Very well, that's actually the best I've heard so far

message 59: by Chris (new)

Chris (mathdaddy) Thanks for the compliment, Jessica. I learned long ago to back up everything I say. (Students tend to listen to you better if you do that.) I'm debating reading "Twilight" sometime soon, since one of my (female) best friends is obsessed with it and is one of those people who was standing in line opening night of the movie to see it, with her poor husband in tow. I figure I might as well read it...once I finish the Temeraire series, the Dresden Files, possibly the Vampire Hunter series.....sigh. Too many books, not enough spare time. Curse you, Life!!!!!!!

Alex haha!!

Jessica (jessiemae) | 9 comments i totally agree Chris... there just insn't enough spare time to relax and honestly... I think that that time is necessary to really enjoy life and comprehend it... but that's a totally different discussion...

anyways... thanks to everyone who contributed...

I have read all four Twilight books (more than once) and all seven Harry Potter books (also more than once) and I would say that both series are nearly perfect in their own way, but since Harry Potter is on a much larger scale in every way, being an epic tale which includes a massive struggle of good vs evil, and a huge cast of complex and well developed characters, Harry Potter is much greater literature, even if some people find it less enjoyable. Sort of the way Charles dickens is greater than the Hardy Boys, even if you might find the Hardy boys more fun.

But I also agree with Ashlyn that it isn't really appropriate to compare them, since they really are in entirely different classes.

Both authors have easy to read writing styles. I especially like Stephanie Meyers' humor, and J.K. Rowling's vividness. Her words sometimes seem to jump off the page and grab the reader.

totally

Elio Salameh | 2 comments nooo !!!! jk's are better than Meyer's and here's the reasons :
jk describes more... meyer doesn't describe at all.
jk creates a whole new world.. meyer writes the story in this world..
jk created spells... meyer jst created names for the characters.
IT IS CLEAR.. JK IS BEST THAN MEYER

Elio Salameh | 2 comments hp's books are of course better than twilight's. and jk is better better better than meyer... you jst can't compare them to each other.. I mean there are people that said meyer is THE NEW JK ROWLING.. OH GOD!!! what were they thnking??

S.A. Felix | 1 comments Well I will get a lot of hate for this but whike JK rowling's story was good...her writing put me off. Seriously, I had to skip few paragraphs to get to the dialogue cause her writing is so...boring. Meyer's writing is very good. I couldnt stop reading. I read meyer's Host and trust me...I was so into the story because her writing is so interesting and simple. I would choose Meyer for her writing style. Twilight was a clever choice to sell her good books, I would have done the same.
