I read my first John Saul book ("Darkness") last month and enjoyed it far more than expected. I now have a number of his books on my Kindle and look forward to enjoying them with you in the months to come. I also enjoy Stephen King, Peter Straub and a bit of Dean Koontz.

Thanks, Erica. I think I may have this on my Kindle. if I do, I'll move it up on my to-read list.

If you have a copy - you can catch up with us! We both just finished Part 3 of the 6 part serial. Each part is about 88 pages and we give ourself one month for each part - we've been reading it between our regular Saul book of the month. Hope you can join us!

Welcome to the group Mike and if you haven't already, make sure you join the Koontzland - Dean Koontz group also :-) we have about 260 members there.

:-)Welcome to the group Shannon! We're reading Nathaniel in June so if you haven't read that one yet, please consider joining us for the group read.
Hey everyone,
You may have noticed that our other moderator (the one who started this group and then disappeared) has not been active on goodreads for 6 months. If anyone is interested in being a co-moderator of the John Saul Lit Group, send me a goodreads message. I would really appreciate some help since I already moderate 3 other author groups and just don't have time to do everything with the groups that I'd like. If you are an active participate in our group, generally active on goodreads and a fan of John Saul - You're hired! (well with the understanding that you don't get paid :-) Think about it. Message me. Thanks.
I just posted a link to our group on John Saul's new Facebook page - hoping a few people will join us - and if John himself joined us - Wow! wouldn't that be amazing! (not holding my breath that the author himself will join us - although I did get Tess Gerritsen to join us, of course she hasn't been back in quite some time, but we can always hope :-)

Welcome to the Group Kyle :-) Glad you found us because you are clearly a John Saul addict.
When the Wind Blows is our current group read. Come nominate a title or two for our next group read (start @ post #93):

I think I was 17 when I started reading Saul. My first books were The Blackstone Chronicles and then The Homing.

I'm still waiting for a library copy to become available. I have ordered an audiobook but it is only available Abridged. I may have to buy a printed copy if I can't get the library to hurry up.

I heard that The Blackstone Chronicles was made into a TV mini-series. Do you know anything about that?

_Suffer the Children_ scores a Big WOW! on all counts.
Welcome Tom! I still haven't read Suffer the Children, but I've heard only good things about the book and I do plan to read it sometime :-)
Hello! I've been a Saul fan for 5 or 6 years now. I picked up Suffer the Children and Punish the Sinners at a used book store and went back 2 days later to buy all of the Saul the proprietor had for sale. I read the vast majority of his books in the order of their release.
I have read all of his books except his two most recent (Faces of Fear & House of Reckoning). I own all but those two plus Devil's Labyrinth and Manhattan Club.
I think that I have read all of the Saul that I own at least 3 times, so I should be able to take part in any discussions you may have on them. I may even reread whatever you're working on if I haven't read it recently.
So far this year, I've reread Suffer the Children, Comes the Blind Fury, Hell Fire, The Unloved, Shadows, Darkness, Guardian, and The Presence. I think that I also read Nightshade & the Right Hand of Evil in Nov-Dec.
Hmmm... really, I have read all of his books published between 1977 and 2000 countless times. A favorites list would be far too long-- just depends on my mood I suppose. At the moment, I would say The Unloved is the best feel-good sort of Saul novel. :)
Least favorites may be a bit more telling: In the Dark of the Night (serial killer buff-- I was annoyed), The Manhattan Club (just not my type of thing I guess), and Devil's Labyrinth (it was okay, but I expect better from Saul).
I think that's a long enough intro! ;) Looking forward to some discussions!

Hola Lacey! :)
Gotta say that I loved Brain Child too. I'm a sucker for scifi. I think I liked the God Project better on the scifi front though. Read it?

No I have it on my to read list though...might have to read that while you guys read Black Lightning since I've already read that one :-)
I've read The God Project so many times that I can surely discuss with you when you finish it. ;)
I've read Black Lightning too. The only two that I haven't read are his two latest. BUT, I haven't read Black Lightning in a few years. Figured I might as well read it again.
I agree with Dustin, by the way. It's great to have someone else around to chat with.

Welcome, Justin! :)
I really need to read The Homing again. It has been a few years.
Suffer the Children was the book that hooked me! I saw 4-5 Saul books at a book store and bought two that sounded good. When I got home, I noticed that Suffer was his first book, so I started with that one. I went back to the book store after I finished it and bought every title they had. hehe ;)

Welcome to the group Ali - We are currently reading Black Lightning as a group if you're interested :-)
Ali, you sound like me! ;) I own all of his books but the newest 3 or something, and I've read all but 2. I picked up a couple at a used book store about 5-6 yrs ago or something. My first was Suffer the Children (noticed it was his first and started with that one). Totally hooked me!
Welcome to the group. :) Gonna read Black Lightning again for the group read? If not, you can still discuss with us if you remember it.

Welcome Matt! The Blackstone Chronicles was my first John Saul experience and I was hooked :-) I love Black Lightning too. Thanks for joining - it's pretty quite here with much fewer fans than Dean Koontz has.

I do see that a lot of you guys like King & Koonts but I don't like either one! Weird. I love the King movies, but I can never get into his books.

Welcome! :-) We are glad you found us too. We're reading The Right Hand of Evil during February if you're interested in joining us.

I'm Aaron, 29, from Minnesota. Over the last ten years I've read every novel written by John Saul. He is one of my favorite authors along with King, McCammon, Koontz, and Bentley Little. I've only read each of his books once, so I do look forward to re-reading some of my favorites and ones that I read several years ago. My favorites of his are Blackstone, Suffer the Children, and Second Child. I hope we see more Saul releases in the future!
