Michael (fisher_of_men) Hello. I'm Mike from Media, PA. I work for a company that makes medical and cosmetic products.

I read my first John Saul book ("Darkness") last month and enjoyed it far more than expected. I now have a number of his books on my Kindle and look forward to enjoying them with you in the months to come. I also enjoy Stephen King, Peter Straub and a bit of Dean Koontz.

Hey everyone,
You may have noticed that our other moderator (the one who started this group and then disappeared) has not been active on goodreads for 6 months. If anyone is interested in being a co-moderator of the John Saul Lit Group, send me a goodreads message. I would really appreciate some help since I already moderate 3 other author groups and just don't have time to do everything with the groups that I'd like. If you are an active participate in our group, generally active on goodreads and a fan of John Saul - You're hired! (well with the understanding that you don't get paid :-) Think about it. Message me. Thanks.

I just posted a link to our group on John Saul's new Facebook page - hoping a few people will join us - and if John himself joined us - Wow! wouldn't that be amazing! (not holding my breath that the author himself will join us - although I did get Tess Gerritsen to join us, of course she hasn't been back in quite some time, but we can always hope :-)

I'm still waiting for a library copy to become available. I have ordered an audiobook but it is only available Abridged. I may have to buy a printed copy if I can't get the library to hurry up.

I heard that The Blackstone Chronicles was made into a TV mini-series. Do you know anything about that?

message 69: by Erica (new)

Erica (bookpsycho) | 82 comments I've been blowing up google trying to find info on that. The only thing I can find is an old article saying that a mini-series would be out in '97 or '98.

message 70: by Tom (new)

Tom Mueller | 1 comments Over the years I've probably read most of John Saul's work, but Suffer the Children - I believe his first novel - had the biggest impact on me. I love a good scare and delving into the psyche of the troubled mind, then looking for the reasons of what it was that twisted the individual's mind in the first place.
_Suffer the Children_ scores a Big WOW! on all counts.

Hello! I've been a Saul fan for 5 or 6 years now. I picked up Suffer the Children and Punish the Sinners at a used book store and went back 2 days later to buy all of the Saul the proprietor had for sale. I read the vast majority of his books in the order of their release.

I have read all of his books except his two most recent (Faces of Fear & House of Reckoning). I own all but those two plus Devil's Labyrinth and Manhattan Club.

I think that I have read all of the Saul that I own at least 3 times, so I should be able to take part in any discussions you may have on them. I may even reread whatever you're working on if I haven't read it recently.

So far this year, I've reread Suffer the Children, Comes the Blind Fury, Hell Fire, The Unloved, Shadows, Darkness, Guardian, and The Presence. I think that I also read Nightshade & the Right Hand of Evil in Nov-Dec.

Hmmm... really, I have read all of his books published between 1977 and 2000 countless times. A favorites list would be far too long-- just depends on my mood I suppose. At the moment, I would say The Unloved is the best feel-good sort of Saul novel. :)

Least favorites may be a bit more telling: In the Dark of the Night (serial killer buff-- I was annoyed), The Manhattan Club (just not my type of thing I guess), and Devil's Labyrinth (it was okay, but I expect better from Saul).

I think that's a long enough intro! ;) Looking forward to some discussions!

I've read Black Lightning too. The only two that I haven't read are his two latest. BUT, I haven't read Black Lightning in a few years. Figured I might as well read it again.

I agree with Dustin, by the way. It's great to have someone else around to chat with.

Welcome, Justin! :)

I really need to read The Homing again. It has been a few years.

Suffer the Children was the book that hooked me! I saw 4-5 Saul books at a book store and bought two that sounded good. When I got home, I noticed that Suffer was his first book, so I started with that one. I went back to the book store after I finished it and bought every title they had. hehe ;)

Ali A (pandraiam) | 2 comments Hello everyone, I'm Ali, 32 from IL. and I am very happy to join this fine group of fellow John Saul fans! 15+ yrs ago I happened upon his book "Nathaniel" at a yard sale and that ended up being my first taste of John Saul. When I finished it, that was it for me...full blown fever! I didn't have means to get more of his books at the time so I read that one a second time, lol. Over the years I have managed to add each and every one of his books to my collection and have read all of his older stuff. I still have some catching up to do, as far as reading his newer books, but they are there on the bookshelf patiently waiting their turn. =)

Ali, you sound like me! ;) I own all of his books but the newest 3 or something, and I've read all but 2. I picked up a couple at a used book store about 5-6 yrs ago or something. My first was Suffer the Children (noticed it was his first and started with that one). Totally hooked me!

Welcome to the group. :) Gonna read Black Lightning again for the group read? If not, you can still discuss with us if you remember it.

Matthew Behling (MattyKB) | 3 comments Hi. I'm Matt from California. I've read Saul off and on for about 15 years (since high school). What broke my John Saul virginity was when someone gave me a copy of The Blackstone Chronicles omnibus for my birthday. My favorite is Black Lightning. The only book I wasn't a fan of is The Presence. Excited to see what others think of some of my favorite John Saul novels!

message 96: by D. Paul (new)

D. Paul | 9 comments Hello, I'm Paul & I currently live in Portland, OR. I've been reading John Saul since the early 90's. I realize that the number of books he's written is not infinite, so I sip them like fine wine. This month I've been on a Saul binge though, & have read Creature, Brainchild, Perfect Nightmare, & tonight I'll finish Hellfire. I'd love to get in on reading a book as a group.

message 98: by Ashley (new)

Ashley (booksandashley) Hello! I'm so excited to have found this group! I'm Ashley and I live in NY. I am a Junior in college and I've been reading John Saul books since probably Freshman/Sophomore year in High School. My first book was In the Dark of the Night. I have read 24 (Counting Blackstone Chronicals as 1) of his books, own all of them, and I have loved ever one that I have read. Darkness is my favorite so far.

I do see that a lot of you guys like King & Koonts but I don't like either one! Weird. I love the King movies, but I can never get into his books.

Aaron | 1 comments Hi everyone,

I'm Aaron, 29, from Minnesota. Over the last ten years I've read every novel written by John Saul. He is one of my favorite authors along with King, McCammon, Koontz, and Bentley Little. I've only read each of his books once, so I do look forward to re-reading some of my favorites and ones that I read several years ago. My favorites of his are Blackstone, Suffer the Children, and Second Child. I hope we see more Saul releases in the future!
