((He isn't, he always has the aura, it just isn't at its most powerful.))

"Don't tell me what I can do, little girl," Evander spat out, deliberately loosening his hold on his aura.

Cassidy straightened out her shoulders, closing her eyes. "You're not proud of what you're doing, and yet you do it all the same."

At this Evander stood up and he towered over the girl. "What are you trying to tell me? That you only do things that you're proud of? What if I told you I was born like this? What if I told you I--" Evander stopped here, his jaw clenches so tightly it could cut.

((What's she afraid of?))

((death of loved ones))

"I know what you do," Cassidy snapped. "And I'm pretty damn sick of hearing all the stories of people emotionally scarred."

"You know what I'm sick of? People who think that they're automatically raised on a higher pedestal than I because of my parentage. Sure, I've done some evil things. But so have you, Cassidy." He took three steps toward her so he was barely a foot away from her, looking straight down. "Haven't you? What if something happened... to your father?" Evander's tone was quiet, almost soothing, but the mental picture that he was building up in Cassidy's mind was horrible, even for him.
"Fear's always there in your mind, Cassidy," Evander said gently, his malicious nature disguised by the tone. "All I'm doing... is bringing it out."

"F*ck you," her voice barely reached a whisper. Tears were caught in the back of her eyes. The all-too-familiar panic washed over her. Her head shook, very slightly, disbelief gripping her. No, no, no... It's not happening. It's not. Happening. But no matter how many times she repeated it to herself, cold fingers clenched over her heart, trying to force out the emotions that were rattling inside of her.
The javelin dropped to the ground. Her fingers had turned shaky.

With a gentle smile and a nod, Evander picked up the javelin and gave it to Cassidy. "You dropped this," he said. Though he was calm, he was straining to put the power down on low-- it was hard, getting harder. A vein stood out on his neck as he finally succeeded in getting rid of the aura.

Cassidy stared at him, incredulous. You show me the most grotesque image I've ever seen, and you tell me that I've dropped my javelin? She clenched her fists. "You disgust me, you know that?"
Before he could answer, she turned and stalked off, more pissed than she thought possible.

Evander sighed as he could relax his aura now, and it blossomed like a black cloud around him. He sat back down and whittled at his axe, feeling... Feeling nothing.
Nothing at all.
Except for fear.

Isobel *The Goddess of Annoyance* (goddess_of_annoyance) | 13860 comments Telly walked in, her shirt still in tatters. She spotted Evander and made a slight face at the sight of another of her brothers.

message 163: by ., Goddess of Bacon (new)

. (onawhim) | 17465 comments Mod
Evander caught sight of Telly-- his newest sibling, and curiously covered in ragged, tattered clothing. Making no comment, he dragged a thumb across the blade, blue eyes brooding.

Isobel *The Goddess of Annoyance* (goddess_of_annoyance) | 13860 comments She stole a glance at his axe and furrowed her eyebrows. "Do you own that?"

"Yes," Evander said abruptly.

Isobel *The Goddess of Annoyance* (goddess_of_annoyance) | 13860 comments She looked at it once again but didn't say anything else, glancing around.

"And what happened to you?" Evander asked quietly.

Isobel *The Goddess of Annoyance* (goddess_of_annoyance) | 13860 comments "One of our dear brothers sacraficed me to a hydra," she said with a small scoff.

"Drake," Evander said with a dark chuckle.

message 171: by ., Goddess of Bacon (new)

"He's... ah." Evander shook his head, smiling bitterly. "So congratulations. You slayed a Hydra?"

Isobel *The Goddess of Annoyance* (goddess_of_annoyance) | 13860 comments "Nope," she said, popping the 'p' and leaving it at that.

message 173: by ., Goddess of Bacon (new)

"Oh. Lucky you then. Suffered from a heartattack and died on the spot, huh?" Evander said sarcastically.

"Thank you for being so specific," Evander said, getting up and leaving the range without further ado.

Usako (bbmeltdown) | 1898 comments All current scenes fade. New year starts now in the next summer! (effective as of Sat 8 Jan 2011)

message 177: by [deleted user] (new)

Keelyn held a javelin in her hands, studying it with her blonde brows raised appraisingly. She had been to shy to practice this last summer, but even with her new confidence there was a sense of being lost. She had no idea how to throw a javelin.

message 178: by ., Goddess of Bacon (new)

. (onawhim) | 17465 comments Mod
Not really knowing what she was doing there-- strolling aimlessly, probably (she'd given up all hope of weapons three months ago), Andromeda blew another bubble from her wand, watching it drift up towards the sky.
Another blow of bubbles were carried by a faint summer breeze to a tall, blonde-haired girl who was holding a javelin. Andy could tell she was uncertain with it and walked over, grinning cheerily.
"Hallo," she greeted, bubbles in hand.

message 179: by [deleted user] (new)

Keelyn slowly pulled her gaze away from the javelin, brow furrowed. Her eyes brightened as they focused on the bubble wand in the girl's hand. "Hi," she replied with a smile. Then, she recognized the girl as Andromeda of the Ares cabin. "You're from the Ares cabin. Andy, right?"

message 180: by ., Goddess of Bacon (new)

. (onawhim) | 17465 comments Mod
"The one and the only," she sang out, corkscrew curls dancing as she turned to whip more bubbles from the wand. "And you're Keelyn from the Nemesis cabin. I've heard about you," she said brightly, waggling an eyebrow.

message 181: by [deleted user] (new)

Keelyn's eyes narrowed, but playful bubbles tickled her nose and eased her suspicion. "And have you heard of my amazing abilities?" she asked. "I've heard about yours."

message 182: by ., Goddess of Bacon (new)

. (onawhim) | 17465 comments Mod
"Neutralizing and calming, I believe," Andromeda said admiringly, sticking an end of her wand from her lips so it looked like she was puffing away at a cigar-- one that emitted bubbles, of course. Curiousity got the better of her and she asked with a tilt of her head, "What do people say about me?"

message 183: by [deleted user] (new)

Keelyn shook her head at her first response, even though it wasn't wrong. "You have super awesome butt-kicking abilities, I've heard. But I did also hear you have really good lava wall climbing skills," she amended, her playful face softening with admiration as well. "No, I have an even better power than that." A mischiveous smile twitched her lips upward. "Where'd you get the bubbles?"

message 184: by ., Goddess of Bacon (new)

. (onawhim) | 17465 comments Mod
[I'mma PP and say Lucas did.]

"That's all too true. One of my brothers," Andromeda said, twirling the wand around with an effulgent giggle. She handed the lemon-scented bottle and wand to Keelyn-- a reward for her apt description of Andromeda's qualities. "Here. I apologize for not hearing the extend of your amazingness," she added with a genuinely regretful quirk of her lips. "Why don't you tell me 'bout them?

message 185: by [deleted user] (new)

((That's OK. ^^))
Keelyn let the javelin fall to the ground with a clatter and dipped the bubble wand inside the bottle. "First of all, I can blow mondohugenormus bubbles." Proving her point, she blew softly and slowly until the giant bubble popped! all over her face. "Like that, only less of a fail."

message 186: by ., Goddess of Bacon (new)

. (onawhim) | 17465 comments Mod
"I'm good at blowing a bunch of small ones at once," Andy said with an amused grin, pointing to what remained of her earlier bubble blizzard. Eyes danced with curiousity. "There's more to that, I presume? Unless the bubbles can kill."

message 187: by [deleted user] (new)

"If they did I would most certainly be supreme ruler of the world. Seeing as that has not happened yet, then no." Keelyn attempted to blow another, and this one came out as big as a light-bulb. It sluggishly floated down to the ground, where the grass popped it for her. "I can whistle really loud," she offered.

message 188: by ., Goddess of Bacon (new)

. (onawhim) | 17465 comments Mod
"That's not to be underestimated, I fear," Andromeda said with a twinkling look in her eye, tone neutral, not really knowing if Keelyn was joking or not.

message 189: by [deleted user] (new)

"Nope," Keelyn confirmed brightly, popping the 'p' with a pout of her lips. "Loud as in, I could probably call a pegasus from here." That meant past the stables, over the forge, through the battle arena and probably past the creek.

message 190: by ., Goddess of Bacon (new)

. (onawhim) | 17465 comments Mod
Eyes widening in admiration and amazement, Andromeda was silent for a few moments-- just staring in awe. "Show me," she said finally.

message 191: by [deleted user] (new)

"I don't think a real pegasus would come, but it worked for my dog back home," Keelyn said, putting the bubbles down on the ground. "You might wanna step back."

message 192: by ., Goddess of Bacon (new)

. (onawhim) | 17465 comments Mod
Not one to underestimate abilities of any sort, Andromeda stepped well back, as if Keelyn was spouting radioactive waste. She clamped her hands around her ears and nodded, eyes narrowing slightly, prepared for the impact.

message 193: by [deleted user] (new)

Keelyn chortled at her precautions, but it was probably for the best. Putting her fingers to her mouth (they tasted unpleasantly like soap), she inhaled a deep breath, and then it came like a gunshot. A whistle that had birds fleeing from their trees and carried high and mightily on the wind.

message 194: by ., Goddess of Bacon (new)

. (onawhim) | 17465 comments Mod
She'd thought she'd gotten used to loud-- she lived in the Ares cabin, for gods' sakes-- but Andromeda was not prepared for this.
Stumbling back as if the whistle was physical (it nearly was), Andromeda squinted, pain pounding through her eardrums. She could still hear the shrill sound through her hands.

"I think I'm deaf forever, but that was incredible. Like Pan's panic!" Her words were louder than necessary, but she grinned in enthusiasm.

message 195: by [deleted user] (new)

"Cool!" Keelyn exclaimed, pulling her fingers out of her mouth with pfft sound. "What's Pan's panic?"

message 196: by ., Goddess of Bacon (new)

. (onawhim) | 17465 comments Mod
"Pan claimed credit for the victory of the gods because he had inspired disorder and fear in the attackers-- most think it was a really, really, really loud sound that basically shared Olympus' enemies shitless," Andromeda recited at top speed, pulling her hands from her ears warily.

message 197: by [deleted user] (new)

"Wow, I must have been louder than I thought," Keelyn said, trying not to talk loudly to save Andromeda's ears from further damage. "I need to read up on my mythology," she added for herself.

message 198: by ., Goddess of Bacon (new)

. (onawhim) | 17465 comments Mod
"I love mythology!" Andromeda exclaimed, tucking a curly hair away and stepping closer now that the danger was gone. "I have a bunch of books at my cabin."

She looked for all the world like a geek from the Athena cabin (no offense meant to any occupant residing in said cabin).

message 199: by [deleted user] (new)

"Really?" Keelyn's voice held mild surprise, more interest than anything. "I have one, but I get too lazy to read it," she said with a guilty smile.

message 200: by ., Goddess of Bacon (new)

. (onawhim) | 17465 comments Mod
"They're better than fairy tales 'cos they're real," Andromeda continued, lessening the enthusiasm so as not to scare off Keelyn with her inner nerd.
