This book snuck up on me, it was good then just got better the more I read. Those following the series know that Kitty has had some problems that led to at least a 3 book road trip. All those problems come to a head in this book as Rick the Vampire decides to stage a coup and also involves the Werewolves.
Meanwhile Cormac is still in Prison and Detective Hardin has been made head of the Paranormal Police Unit.
This book has HEA coming out the wazoo, and who doesn't like that?
Yowza! You're done and I haven't even picked yet! LOL! Way to light a fire under my lazy a$$! :DAnd I love the "This book has HEA coming out the wazoo"! Can't wait to read that one. I'm starting that series soon.
LOL! Sure lit you up :DI finally got to open my book a couple hours ago! Whee! (only could read a couple pages...RL is JAMA!) So glad Kitty is continuing well! Ready to sit down to a whirlwind read of all books after #2 from January...
I finished my Supernatural-Romance on Saturday, 12-3-10.
Goddess of the Sea by P.C. CastRating: 3 Stars
Review: The concept was very interesting, so I would have liked a little more depth to the plot. The characterizations were predictable. CC was a modern woman sent back to an uneducated time. All the men of the past, except the love interest, were unenlightened, condescending or just plain woman hating. The women of the time were all abused, misunderstood and taken advantage of, but still loving and accepting of CC. Somehow it came across as a little "preachy" on woman power/strength and yet still managed to be fluffy. Those issues aside, it was a fun and enjoyable read. I'm willing to try more in the future to see if the series improves.
Now I'm off to check out the dark uf shelf for my next read.Added
Just went and looked at the shelf. Lots of choices! So many books were on my TBR shelf and even better more than a few were challenge contenders for this month. It just so happens that I pretty much finished up my weekend read on the bus to work. On my way out the door this a.m. I grabbed Web of Lies
and will start it on my lunch hour. So that will be my next pick.
Still reading
, about halfway through. I'm really enjoying it so far and hope to have it done by Friday. Between finishing Christmas projects/gifts, trying to get shopping and baking done, and other busyness of the season, this is such a bad time of year to get any reading done. I always manage to make time for it though, LOL. A couple of my regular bus drivers call me Miss Book and Bookworm because I'm always standing at the stop with a book in my hand; I have to carry one or two on me for those hidden reading moments during the day. And my Dad once called the library "her other home" when a friend commented on seeing me there all the time. LOL. Hope y'all are finding enough reading opportunities during your day.
Bitter Night (A Horngate Witches Book)12/08/2010 4 stars
A refreshing spin in the urban fantasy genre. Nothing cookie cut about this book.
I give this 4 stars alone for originality. Max is a shadowblade prime, a witch's warrior powered by dark elemental magic. Shadowblades are allergic to any sunlight, including the relection of the sun on the moon. A witch creates shadowblades and sunspears as protection for the coven. They are typically ordinary humans enhanced by magic to be ultimate warriors according to light or darkness. Max happens to have
a small percent of witch blood in her, which makes her even more powerful than the others.
All of the covens are receiving summons from the guardians of the earth, who are served by angelfire throwing angels to fight in a war against humans. If the coven refuses to fight the humans then the angels will burn down that covens territory along with their families. Max's witch Giselle basically forsees a way that they might be able to shield the coven from the guardians and angels.
Good start to a new series and kudos to all of the writers with crazy imaginations.

Great review, Sevie. I'll have to add that to my new2me series to check out in 2011. :)

NOTE: I'm including my full review here, but if you haven't read the series it may contain some slight spoilers. Probably not though, since most book descriptions seem to give away more than I do (or try not to) in my reviews.
Chosen, the 6th book in the Anna Strong Chronicles, is my favorite of the series to date. The book was like a ride I didn't want to get off of and whined when it was over ... Again, Again!
I encourage you to read this series. It's full of action and hot men - vamps and shifters. Anna is just what you'd expect from a late-20s teacher-turned bounty hunter-turned vamp. Strong willed, determined, with kick ass skills and a snarky sense of humor who tends to act before she thinks. Throughout the series we've seen Anna grow into a force to be reckoned with, coming to grips with the fact that her life will never be same, while struggling to maintain her humanity.
Slight spoilers below if you haven't read the previous books in the series
A year ago, Anna was out on a job with her bounty hunter partner, David when their "easy catch" turned out to be a vampire. Anna was attacked, but survived and has been able to keep her non-human nature from David. She's also determined to hang onto her humanity.
Along the way, we've met some wonderfully complex and interesting characters in Anna's life. Culebra, the shape-shifter who owns and operates a bar in Beso de la Muerte, Mexico where vampires can safely dine. Williams, a vampire who successfully integrated with humans as the SD Police Chief. And, Daniel Frey, a jaguar shifter, school teacher and close friend. All of these men make a return appearance in CHOSEN and I was thrilled. I love Frey and we learn a bit more about him in this book.
Throughout the past year, Anna has several "relationships" with men, but none as powerful as the one she has with Lance, who's 75 years into his second life. The relationship between the two of them is tender, protective, nurturing and at times, makes her feel human again. Anna learns more and more about Lance and finds herself thoroughly enjoying what he brings to her life. "{She's} always been the aggressor in relationships. {She's} surprised how nice it feels to let someone else take the lead." Unfortunately, for Anna, things are exactly as they seem.
Since her first meeting with a vampire who could answer some of her questions, she's been told she's "the one". Throughout the series, we see Anna throw off those comments, determined to be the one ... who makes her own destiny. But, it seems, no matter how hard she tries to resist, things are about to change and in a big, big way. She's The Chosen or is it all just superstitious nonsense?
I started this series with book 1, The Becoming, in 2006 and over the years, it's remained one of my favorite UFs. This book is, IMO, the best of them all! I canNOT wait for the next book in the series!
Sevie, I'll have to look into that series, haven't heard of that one.Same again with Steph's series, of course, I'd have to go back to the start though, couldn't start at #6.
Isn't it grand finding new series to play with ....
Thanks for the review Steph! I read the first 2 or 3 Anna Strong books when they first came out. I have another lost somewhere on my TBR shelf. You've inspired me to try and catch up on this series in the new year.

Hope you find your way back to Anna and enjoy it as well. I was surprised by that book. I've always enjoyed the series, but that one was so much better than I was expecting.
I finished my Urban-Dark-Fantasy read early this a.m.
Web of Lies, Jennifer Estep, 12-10-10Rating: 4 stars
Review: Gin's strong personality and self-awareness are just part of what makes her such an interesting character. Interesting is good. Gin knows who she is, feels no need to justify her actions and makes no appologies for her chosen profession, unconventional even in crime-ridden Ashland. That's why her continued attraction to Donovan is slightly annoying; it's patently obvious he's never going to accept her completely. It's human nature to sometimes want what we cannot have, but Gin doesn't seem the type to let that dictate her actions. Yet, she continued to hope that Donovan would change his mind. This minor problem is far outweighed by the fascinating world of vampires, dwarves, giants and elementals that Estep has created. The plot is engaging and the action moves forward nicely. I'm definitely looking forward to the next book.

Great book. I'm a little sad that this series is coming to an end, I've really enjoyed following Faythe on her journey in life.
This book was very emotional for me. I was sad to see so many people get hurt/die though out this book. Can't wait to see what happens between Jace and Mark with Faythe. I'm very interested in seeing how they plan to take down Malone and his guys? I'm also interested in what the rest of the other Alphas will have to say about it? This next book will be nothing short of interesting.
Whoops! I posted this twice @ Team 2. Sorry :pA Double Dose! Our next to shelf announcement dates: 12/20 and 1/3/11 are so close to the holidays I decided to post them now to give people a chance to read, relax and enjoy the season!

I was lucky for a change and both my picks were on the first page, respectively. LOL. Not like last time on the 14th page.
Perfect. I'm on vacation the the last 2 weeks of December and computer access will be limited to mainly the public library. The early announcements make things a whole lot easier. I'm off to look through the lists and will be back to post my choices later.
Yay! I'm glad, Daffodil! Next shelf not until 17 Jan, so plenty of time to relax, read and enjoy the holidays! :)I'll be reading
for the 'Pnr-angeldemon-fae-wings-witch-misc' shelf and still deciding on the one for 'Urbanfantasy Paranormal'.
Ok, I'll either be reading
or
for my 'urbanfantasy-paranormal' book. Both will jump start my new year with book #1 of "Better Late, Than Never" series reads, so I have to wait until 1/1/11 to start.
For the PNR-angeldemons,etc shelf, I'll be reading either
or
. They're both on challenges I'm finishing up this month, it just depends on which one I get to first. For the urbanfantasy-paranormal shelf, I'll be reading
since I'd planned on reading it for the January BOM.
Urban fantasy Paranormal
16/12/10 ★★★
This is a revamp of earlier writings (2003) and unfortunately IMO it shows. I'm a big fan of this series but this one doesn't stack up.
Our heroine, Danice Carter, is an attorney and lives up to her reputation throughout the book. I didn't care for her at all, so there went half the enjoyment of the book. She even had some TSTL moments.
On the other hand our hero, Mac Callahan, half fae, a PI, is a real sweetie, and didn't deserve to end up with 'open my mouth and stick my foot in it' Carter.
I'll keep reading this series, but won't be re-reading this book, unlike the rest of the series.
Just had one of my friends post a review for
, she's a professional reviewer and hers was DNF. Mostly for the same reasons as me - TSTL moments included. I feel validated!!!!!!
Sandra, I think I commiserated with you over on the Currently Reading thread already. I haven't read the earlier Ellora's Cave version of this (I think it was a quickie), but I'll just keep my expectations low when I pick it up.Currently reading
for the first shelf.

I have really enjoyed this series. It's a lesser known one, I think. Somehow overlooked by many.
This is the 3rd book in the series The Dark Forgotten. In Ravenous, the series starts out with the story about Holly, a witch who runs her family's paranormal investigation business. (Kinda like Ghost Busters, but better) Holly's sister, Ashe is the focus of this book.
One of the things I really enjoy about this series is "the Castle". The Castle is located in another dimension and was built as a prison for dangerous supes. The 2nd book, Scorched, tell's Max's story and most of the story takes place at the Castle.
These books are full of weres, shifters, fae, vamps, immortals, demons, witches and, in this one, an evil rabbit. LOL! So, there's a supe for everyone. There is humor, romance, kick-ass heroines, sexy heroes and plenty of battles to keep the story moving at a quick pace.
In Unchained, Ashe is trying to be a good mom, having just taken her 10 year old daughter out of a boarding school in Spain. She's done with killing vamps and hunting things that go bump in the night. All to prove to the courts (and her dead husband's parents) that she's a good mother and should have full custody of her daughter. She's even taken a job at a library. But, when Captain Reynard comes to her seeking help, she can't say no. Reynard hasn't forgotten how Ashe saved his life during the battle at the Castle in Scorched. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series: Frostbound.
