O4 Books Read

Also, finished my read today and I will post my review soon.

"This book should get top marks, it is that well written, with interesting dialogue and fast-paced action. It is gritty but in a good way and has a complicated mystery that gets solved. I took off one star because the hero falls so many times at the mercy of this clan or that, even the bad guys, that it was pretty hard to buy his tough detective image. He gets points for sensitivity though, he has a soft-spot for abused kids and teens in trouble a and he really cares for his HIV infected girlfriend. I'm looking forward to continuing with this series."

Like most first novels, there is a lot of world building, character creating at the start of this. It took me awhile to get everything "straight" but once I did, it was a fast, exciting read. The characters are strong, gritty and fascinating. Their relationships and interactions have layers and difficulties that intrigue the reader and keep you wanting to know more. I'll definitely be reading more, in fact, based on the positive reviews I'd already read, made sure I had #2 at hand. But, it's in Reading Resolutions, so I'll enjoy other treats in December.

Judithe, I'm so happy you enjoyed that one. I love that series. It is hard, at times, to keep all the names/jobs straight through the series. At least for me it was, but I do love the story between Heather and Dante. And, Dante ... yum! ;)

Web of Lies by Jennifer Estep ****/5 12.10.10
I've been a fan of Jennifer Estep since her Bigtime series, and this book is another outstanding book from her. I liked this better than the first in the Elemental Assassin series, and I definitely like the addition of the Owen character. I can't wait for the next book since it seems like it will start focusing on the main character's backstory mystery that has only been hinted at so far.

Finished today (12/11/10) and give it 3 stars. My review is below. There is a spoiler if you haven't read the previous books - you've been warned...
Review:
I really like this series, but I always dread starting a new book because they are very long and very involved and I know it will take me a lot longer to read than most books. But once I start, I'm always sucked into the story, and this one is no different.
Most of this is centered on the hunt for Kisten's killer (and Rachel's memories) and an issue with a banshee. Lots of Rachel and Jenks interaction, a decent amount of Ivy and Al and practically none with Trent and Ceri. Rachel does get to spend some time with her mother and brother this book and it is interesting to see the sibling rivalry. The story is good, although I thought the killer resolution was a bit of a let down

..."
Diane, I'm exactly the same with this one. I listened to the last one and I think I enjoyed it a bit more. I was able to get lost in Rachel's world while cleaning house, doing laundry, etc.

Warned you about the wishy-washy bit! Too many good books on these shelves!!!!

Tentative for G5:
[bookcover:Sin's Daughter|8508..."
According to Steph on one of the other group's post, you can start reading both of these shelves now.

What I liked:
* The world. Paranormals have few rights if any.
* How the zombies came about. That was well-written and had me squirming a bit in discomfort.
* The humorous by-play between Vicky and her sort-of boss, Lucado.
* The interesting world of demons created.
* Vicky's shapeshifter powers.
What I didn't like:
* Vicky was really slow figuring things out. Seriously, I don't know how some of the things could have been more obvious.
* Vicky's boyfriend, Kane, the werewolf lawyer. He was too self-involved.
* That Vicky kept letting Tina get away with the things she was doing.

This was hard for me to get into, but once I was, it was a fantastic, fun read. It's interesting to get to know more about the characters, but the wait was long for this, and I'd forgotten too much from book 1! That was frustrating, especially as I didn't feel like rereading that one! The couple had to work hard for their HEA, and it seemed possible. I wish the fallen angels themselves had some more air time, but that wasn't a distraction, just interest in them. I'm now really looking forward to the next one...but another long wait!

Have fun reading!

Thanks. I was a bit leery about starting it after reading some of the reviews, but I enjoyed it, so I'm glad I did.
