LOL...don't you hate it when that happens!
Dang. That sucks. I'll keep the blinders on. I've done a pretty good job with one so far. Don't wanna know a thing before I start.
Cool, my book was on the first page too and I was already planning to read it for another challenge. I'll read Hunting Ground by Patricia Briggs. Also, I've just finished my book from last week's shelf, Beautiful Darkness by Kami Garcia and have mixed feelings about it. I'll post my review later when I get home since it's a bit awkward using the phone.
I will most likely be reading The Reckoning by Kelley Armstrong or Twice as Hot by Gena Showalter for the shifters shelf, but probably won't start for a bit.
Sorry team, I got in late last night and didn't even open my laptop. Today I had to wake up at 05.30, so I didn't have time to post my review here. Steph, the book is definitely worth reading, especially if you liked the first one. I felt the writing had improved considerably. I had mixed feelings about it when I finished but that may be due to the fact that I took a long time to read it, about a week, during which time I had to move furniture, pay bills and go to the dentist, all between shifts at work. So, take my review when you read it with a grain of salt, I'm really curious what you think after you've read it, especially since it comes with such high expectations after book one :).
Book review coming in a few hours.
****** 11/8/10I really like this character! Kitty and the Midnight Hour was a really great read, and the second one followed that up quite nicely! Kitty has a few of her "regulars" with her, but we meet a whole new crop of supes and devious bad guys. Felt like screaming in outrage on her behalf, but she certainly handled herself well despite all the twists, turns and down-right rotten-ness! Another series that I wish I'd started sooner, but am glad there are so many more to read at my fingertips now!

No problems on that...life interferes with reading and there's just no helping it! Hope everything else is settling down, and the dentist (and bills!) weren't too awful!
Great review Judithe! I should start reading this series too, I hear it's more lighthearted and fun. :)Everything is great, I'm just being a brat and complaining but actually things are really good, the dentist gave me good news, I only had one small cavity and she fixed that, I was kind of worried about it since I've skipped my last checkup, lol, also I have new furniture to go with the big screen we bought two weeks ago, so of course there were expenses, but it's ok. :)
Here it is, my review for Beautiful Darkness! Finished it yesterday, 11/07, and gave it 4 stars.Just finished this one and I must say I have mixed feelings about it. The book is clearly much better written than the first one, more humourous, the action sequence is clear and you never get confused. But toward the end of it I felt a little tired of all the running around, the big revelations seemed a little forced, like an exercise in the authors' imagination, which is considerable. I kept wondering what they were going to produce out of their magic hat next and ended up not really caring about the outcome. Ethan was really sweet, and most of the secondary characters were just as endearing, like Link, Amma, Liv, Gramma and even Ridley. Maybe that's why I didn't like Lena here, she had all that power at her disposal and still she chose to just give up and had to be rescued by a bunch of mortals and old ladies. Grrrrr! The book ended on an interesting note and I'm looking forward to finding out what happens to Link and Ridley.
Thank you Judithe, it's not that much really. Didn't change the sofa yet, maybe next year, a quality one is really expensive! :) The big work was taking out all the old furniture, clearing up the clutter and arranging for the movers to come. I have less furniture now, only bought a TV stand and a few shelves and a desk, but there is so much more space now, so i am happy with the outcome. Things are looking up and i think i'll have more free time in the near future, especially for my reading, yay!
YAY, Miss! Enjoy your new goodies!I'll let ya know what I thought of Beautiful Darkness after I've read it. I need to read over my review for #1 b/c I can't remember exactly how it left off. (Hate that!) Is there any recap in the beginning of this one?
It doesn't really have a recap but the action starts right after the first book ended, with Macon's funeral, and some things were explained as the need arose (for example when Lena's aunt appears in the book and helps them with a crucial information, it is explained that she is a palimsest and can see the present and the past at the same time).
Ok, thanks. Might have to re-read the last couple of chapters of the first book to refresh my memory before starting it.
Hey everyone. Hope everyone is well. I'm only going to start my book tonight. Been a bit MIA due to work and family - but hopefully I can get a few reads knocked over this coming weekend.Hope you're all having fun :)
Sorry I've been AWOL... forgot this Monday was a new square Monday :)Unfortunately, I just finished Alpha last week, (review in next post) so I'm going with Stormwalker by Allyson James.
I know we've already got credit for the free square, but I did read Alpha for it so...For the FREE SPACE slot:
Alpha by Rachel Vincent ****/5 finished 11/05/10
I found this a really fitting ending to the series, and will definitely miss Faythe and the rest of the guys. The author has said this is the end of Faythe's story but she might revisit this world in the future, and I, for one, will definitely be keeping an eye out for that to happen.
Hi Jen! Updating the space. Glad to hear it was a good book/series for you. I'm looking forward to starting it next year!
Ok, I finished The Reckoning for the shifters space. I give it 3 stars (which means it is good).Review:
I'm a bit disappointed as I would have liked a bit more closure than I got with this book as it is suppose to be the final book of the trilogy. While it did wrap some things up, it seems to be the perfect setup for a new series and I hope that does eventually happen.
** Plot summary (spoiler if you haven't read the first two) **
The kids are happy to be safe, but want to rescue Rae and Aunt Lauren. The new group that took them in moves slowly and don't really seem to believe the threat is a big as they think. With some down-time, the romantic situation finally resolves itself.
Hi Team!I just finished Moon Called. Loved it! I really struggled rating it 4 or 5 - so really maybe a 4.5 fits best (although it shows as 4 stars on my title review).
Mercy is a tough take no BS shifter, who is drawn into a whole mess of trouble thanks initially to two werewolve guys in her life (Adam and Mac). Her character is quick-witted, savvy and remarkably normal.
What I enjoyed so much about this book is that Mercy isn't flawless, and that she doesn't instantly fall into mad unadulterated lust with the lead at the first moment of weakness.
The story was complex enough that it wasn’t easy to predict what would happen with the big show-down, giving adequate suspense (although not finger-nail shredding suspense).
I think Kim Harrison said it best when she said ‘entertaining from its deceptively innocent beginning to it’s can’t put-it-down end’.
Got to say - I'm loving finding new authors and new series, however as much as I want to race out and get the remaining books in this series, I have to wait until I get back from my holidays :( Small price I guess.
Have a good one!
For the SHIFTERS slot:Stormwalker by Allyson James ****/5 finished 11/11/10
This author was new to me, but I very much enjoyed this book. Apparently, it's the first in a new series. It definitely has a great kick-butt UF heroine who reminds me of some of my favorites like Kate Daniels and Mercy Thompson.
Whooo-hoo! With today's posts by Shannon & Jen, that makes 4 books read for SHIFTERS! Way to read Just One More!Oh, and Shannon, official "done" date for you is 11/12/10? It wasn't in your post...
CONGRATULATIONS, Just One More! You now have an updated BINGO card with a stamp on 'shifters'.

Good Job!! :D

Finished Hunting Ground yesterday, 11/14, and gave it 4 stars. Here is my review:The second book in the Alpha and Omega series continues the story of Charles and Anna. I felt it was better than the first and I'm definitely more involved with the characters now. I might actually end up liking this one just as much as the Mercy series. Loved the two points of view and also the fact that Anna comes out of her shell more and is able to save the day at the end. Way to go girl!
