TEAM THREAD: Team #1 Just One More... [SECOND PLACE]
I decided to go with the crowd and read Eternal Kiss of Darkness. I finished it today (10/13/10) and give it 3 stars. My review:After being disappointed with Spade's book, I was happy that I enjoyed this one more and surprised because Mencheres kind of came off as an old fuddy-duddy during the main books, while I had loved Spade. But Kira is way better than Denise (I'm still upset that she is Spade's HEA). The plot is good and I was thrilled to see Vlad again (can't wait for his book).

Hmmm....
How about Bingo Dominatrix (not sure how to make it plural)

Oh, and I'm thrilled that part of this book took place in Wyoming. That has been a hard state for my read the USA challenges I have going.
Diane, if you don't mind me asking, who's got the USA challenge going on? I've been thinking about something like that ("Book Around the US") for this group, but don't want to copy anyone. Thanks. :)

That would be like copying the alphabet challenge. The two groups I'm doing it for are Cozy Mysteries and Nothing But Reading Challenges.
LOL! You're right. I guess I just meant I'd like to come up with something that isn't already being done elsewhere. Thanks :)
Diane ~Firefly~ wrote: "Hmmm....How about Bingo Dominatrix (not sure how to make it plural) "
The plural form is "dominatrices or dominatrixes" according to
Oxford.
So, new suggestion is "Bingo Dominatrixes" (much cooler with an "x").
Hi - sorry about my missing rating and date for Eternal Kiss of Darkness... Date finished was 13/10/2010 and my rating is 5

Love it!! :) I'll vote for it (Especially after seeing that Group 4 is called Bingo Bookworms.... very close to our suggestion of Bcubed) - by the way the spreadsheet is great Steph :)
Shannon wrote: "Hi - sorry about my missing rating and date for Eternal Kiss of Darkness... Date finished was 13/10/2010 and my rating is 5"No worries, my dear.
And thanks on the spreadsheet. :)
One more suggestion on the name...How about "Just One More..."? It includes the team number, and I don't know about you, but I find myself saying it constantly to my husband, as in just one more minute/page/chapter/book for the TBR pile, etc.

Jen I think that's my new fave now! Sorry for being a little indecisive guys....
LOL! OK, I'll call the final vote, with new write in of Just One More... And, Bcubed is being scrubbed for "bookworm" .
Post your final choice here or PM me (thanks for the quick responses!)(Preferences/objections welcome!)
So, yesterday (10/13) i finished my read: Dark Gold by Christine Feehan, here is my review:I started reading Christine Feehan's Carpathian series more than a year ago and realised that although i love her writing and the world she built here, i can't read them all in one go. I love the idea of soulmates and predestined love but i find it hard to accept the fact that the heroines don't really have a choice, and perversely i also get frustrated with them when they are so obstinate and reluctant to accept the hero and save him from the darkness.
This book felt the same to me. Alexandria Houton is saved by Adrian Savage from the hands of a murderous vampire but because there had already been two blood exchanges he has to complete the transformation. He tries to give her some space even though he knows she is his soulmate and she tries to defy him at every turn. They finally resolve some of their differences towards the end of the book. The other conflict felt pretty anticlimactic, i didn't really feel they were in danger, and i felt more intrigued about the Thomas Ivan problem which is never resolved.
I liked Gregory in this book and will probaly read the next book to find out his story.
I gave it 4 stars. :)
For a group name i like Just one more... (definitely with the the three "."s at the end). It's cute and not too hardcore. :)Also, i don't understand what we have to do to fill in the Free Space??
Miss, to get free space credit, each team member must pick a book from one of these three options:
(1) SOS' October BOM: Clockwork Angel by Cassandra Clare
OR
(2) A book off of any of the group's October new release threads found here
OR
(3) A book off of the group's bookshelf (any shelf/tag)
***Be sure to post on your team's thread: which book you chose for FREE SPACE credit, which of the three options above you chose to pick your book, your rating and your review. Once all members of each team have posted that information, your team will get "a stamp" in the FREE SPACE. :D
NOTE: Since the game will go on past October, I've opened up options 1-2 to "any month's book while the game is active". So, since we already know that Nov's BOM is Alpha by Rachel Vincent, you could choose to read that vs. Clockwork Angel , or any book listed on the "Nov new release/next-in-series" lists found here and so on.
Members don't have to pick and read a book now, they can, but it's not required. You can choose which book to read and when to read it, but no team will get free space credit until all members have read, rated & reviewed a book chosen from one those options.
Hope that helps. :)
Thanks Steph! Ya just enabled me to cross one more thing off of the "TO DO" Scroll....I want to read both of the BOMs...but I think I can get ahold of Alpha sooner....gleefully running off to check the order cart!
You're welcome. :) Happy to help. I can't decide which I'll read first. Probably Clockwork Angel, so I can chat about it this month or next. But, not sure yet. I'm itchin' to read Alpha!
UPDATE: Rule ChangeChange effective immediately
Due to Team 2, The G.L.O.B.s, being short one member, I am changing the required reading needed to achieve "shelf credit" down to FOUR books.
Each team member is still required to read a book for each shelf.
New Rule: As soon as FOUR books are read, rated & reviewed, that team will get credit for that shelf.
Please let me know if you have any questions regarding this change. Thanks & Happy Reading!
CONGRATULATIONS, Team #1! Due to the rule change (see above), you now have an updated BINGO card with a stamp on 'vampire-romance'. [Your new BINGO card can be viewed on page 1]
Good Job!! :D
Looks like I will be reading this for the free space (from the group's bookshelves), but it will be a few books to get down to a one word title.
I forgot to post, I'm reading
from the shelves...though I'll still figure a way to get the BOM's in the game!
HiMy review for the blank space (with a couple of spoilers...):
Clockwork Angel by Cassandra Clare – rating 3/5 finished 16/10/10
I had this book pre-ordered for ages prior to it being released. Now that I’ve finally read it I am left a bit disappointed. It pains me to say it because I loved the Mortal Instruments.
Clockwork Angel had Cassandra Clare’s typically beautiful rich vivid descriptions – however for me it lacked the build-up in anticipation. Although there was a dutiful climax – it wasn’t as tense or make me as anxious which I was with her Mortal instrument series. In parts it was a bit predictable.
What I did like – I love her descriptive narrative ... it’s easy to picture scene in 1878. I like that some of the characters are the ancestors to the Mortal Instrument characters. I love that Magnus Bane made a brief appearance in this book.
What I didn’t like so much – The lack of anticipation; The too complex love line (here I was tired of the love triangles – but no – this has a love line – unrequited love for almost the whole house it appears); The Epilogue (not an epilogue – more of a preview to the next book, I think); That Will Herondale (aka Jace’s ancestor) is the moody shut off type – just like Jace started out (déjà vu); that Church the cat is as old as Magnus Bane!
I really want to sing this books praise, however it just didn’t do it for me. I will of course loyally read the next in the series however – because I can’t leave a series unfinished.
Books finished for SOS Bingo -
Official AnnouncementSo, after much pondering, it seems the majority preference for our team's name is drumroll...Just One More...! And so, it IS!
Thank you Jen, for your suggestion...now I'm off to read just one more page...

Ahhh...I haven't read either yet...would you recommend Mortal Instruments first?

That's a hard one - Being a prequal it might be good to read first - but the first three (City of Bones, City of Ashes and City of Glass) are really good and kinda give you the foundation. So in saying that maybe read the first three first.... sorry - I'm more confused now :)
Hmmm....I know she said on her site they can be read independently of each other...as in don't have to read one first. I guess I'll go with her writing order!
Hi guys, we have such a great team name!Just popped in to say i am reading Beautiful Creatures by Kami Garcia for free space credit.
I've never heard of that, but it sounds really interesting! I'm looking forward to hearing how you like it!
I listened to that one and really liked it. It was a great audiobook. Hope you enjoy reading it. I'm looking forward to reading book 2.
FREE Space 10/16/10****This book felt different from the series so far, but in a good way. I can't define it exactly, but different. I really enjoyed it, and quite liked Fiona! Christophe hasn't been a particularly favorite warrior, but enjoyed learning more about him and he pleasantly surprised me. The developments with the Fae are quite interesting...and I'm looking forward to the next developments in the series.
For the VAMPIRE ROMANCE slot:The Eternal Kiss: 13 Vampire Tales of Blood and Desire ***/5 finished 10/15/10
With so many great writers in this anthology, I really expected to like it, but quite a few the stories were just barely okay. The main standout, however, was the final story in the book by Dina James, "All Wounds." It's apparently the intro to a new series she's writing, and I'm definiely planning to check it out once published.
For the free space credit, I'll also be reading Alpha although it's likely to be about a week or so before I get it.
Hi everyone, just finished the book and have to say i am blown away and can't wait to read book 2 which came out a week ago, yay! I gave it 4/5 stars because of some things that i'll try to explain in my review and were also pointed out by other reviewers, but i have to say it was one of the most stand on the edge of the seat, bite your nails, read all night, can't wait to see what happens books i've read this year.
So here is my review of Beautiful Creatures, 4 stars, read 10/17:I thought it would take me longer to read this book, it didn't start out promising but picked up fast after the first 50 pages. It really was a fun book to read, full of mystery and magic, really unique too, which is saying something for a paranormal book these days. Sure, there were some inconsistencies in the character's reactions like some reviewers had already pointed out(the explanations contain some spoilers so i won't go into that) and the writing style feels a bit simplistic (well, it's a YA after all), also i felt that it was a bit extreme in some views of the South. Nevertheless, all those things did not detract from the enjoyment of the read for me, i turned page after page with bated breath not knowing what to expect next. I'll be sure to read the next book in the series.
I finished Mockingjay today for the free space. I give it 4 stars. What an intense trilogy. I'm a bit surprised at the ending chosen, but the journey there was very thought provoking. It is definitely a story that will stay with you. Katniss was given a lousy hand and played it out the best she could. For someone who really just wanted to be left alone to take care of her family, she was thrust into circumstances that made that impossible. You may or may not like Katniss, but you have to admire her overwhelming need to protect those she loved or felt responsible for.
