Welcome Shaz! I hope you can get your hands a copy each month and join us. I've been doing this since October and have enjoyed the community so much. The only thing better would be gathering over a piece of shoo-fly pie!

Hi Shannon,I'm Lorraine. Beverly Lewis' was the first Amish author I read also. You'll love all her books! Other authors that I have read that I loved are Cindy Woodsmall & Shelley Shepard Gray. I have a couple of books by Kathleen Fuller that are on my to-read list. Haven't read any of her's yet. Also, group members seem to like Wanda Brunstetter. I'll have to check her out as well.

Hi Shannon,
I'm finishing up the Abram's Daughters series right now. I had a hard time getting into book 1, but I chose to finish it, and had no trouble with book 2, 3, 4, and 5. I hope to finish 5 tonight.

Jessica Strack (netsiren) | 75 comments Hello everyone! I'm Jessica! New to the group, but not Goodreads. I have 6 children and love to read. My kids love reading also (which is a blessing). I read any chance I get, which sometimes might not happen during a day. I love all kinds of books but really like books about the Amish! I'm actually planning a trip to "Amish Country".

message 161: by Diane U (new)

Diane U (djuseless) Welcome Jessica! I hope you will get some great suggestions from this group. Which area of Amish country are you planning to visit? I love going to Lancaster, PA but there are other Amish communities in other states. If you are heading to PA, I can give you some places to visit

Do you have an exact date yet? I would love to take a mini-vacation down there (again) and meet all of you and get some Christmas presents for my Mom!

Vannetta Chapman (vannettachapman) | 102 comments YES! We're going to be there on November 18th. We're touring for 7 days, starting on the 12th in Shipshewana. We'll also be in Holmes County, but we are still confirming those places. Can you imagine the 3 of us together? I hope someone brings chocolate. : )

OMG, that's my 39th birthday!!!! Maybe I can talk hubby into a super long weekend there to celebrate. We went to Disney last year for my birthday (since it is the same as Mickey Mouse) but I think meeting all three of you will top that! LOL! I'll bring chocolate birthday cake, will that count??!!

I can't wait -- I think I might be able to do November 18 -- it's only a 4 or so hour drive! Please keep us updated as to where and time!!

Rachel Brand (pixieauthoress) Girls, if you do end up going, take pictures! Sounds like the signing will be a lot of fun! :)

message 170: by Diane U (new)

Diane U (djuseless) Yeah, I tried to convince hubby to make the trip and he does not want to go there in November since we were just there in May. I'll keep working on him though!

message 172: by Rachel (new)

Rachel Brand (pixieauthoress) I'll ask Simon if he wants to take me on a trip to PA in our holiday week in November but I have a feeling he may object :P We will endeavour to make it over the pond sometime in the next 10 - 20 years though, don't worry :)

message 184: by Kav (new)

Kav | 28 comments Just joined the Fans of Amish Fiction group and am loving it so far. I'm Kav -- from Canada -- and I was introduced to Christian Fiction about two years ago. I haven't read anything else since! And have discovered that I really enjoy Amish fiction but haven't come across many others who do so I'm thrilled to 'meet' y'all. I've only read 23 Amish books so far so I'm looking forward to discovering new authors here.

Welcome Kav -- I'm sure you'll find lots of new authors that you'll really enjoy.

message 186: by Rachel (new)

Rachel Brand (pixieauthoress) Kav, welcome to the group! So nice to have some more international flavour, we seem to have a couple of Canadian members now, as well as a few from Australia and myself from the UK. Nice to know that Amish fiction is so popular all over the world!

Trust me, your to-read list is going to grow massively when you join this group! :)

message 187: by Camille (new)

Camille (camlovesraptors) | 802 comments Only 23 Kav? That's NO small feat! Impressive! Also, welcome to our little group. :) We're small but mighty!

message 188: by Shaz (new)

Shaz (zabooksihaveread) | 74 comments Welcome to the group Kav. Sounds like you are off to a great start with your Amish reading. You are sure to add many more great books to your reading list with all the great recommendations from this group.

message 189: by Diane U (new)

Diane U (djuseless) Welcome Kav! I totally agree with you, I have not read much of anything else since discovering Amish and Christian fiction. And 23 Amish books is a great accomplishment! Although most books are part of a series so if you are like me, you have to read all of them! :)

message 190: by Kav (new)

Kav | 28 comments My first ever Amish book was by Cindy Woodsmall -- The Sisters of the Quilt series -- I was so glad they were all in print because I read them one right after the other. I would have lost my mind waiting to find out what happened!!!!! So yes, once I start a series I have to finish reading it.
