I hate Buffy the Vampire Slayer!

Jackie "the Librarian" Wow, was I provoked! Glad you were just kidding, Ali.
So you LIKE the comic book? I'm feeling frustrated with the slow pace. It's like, four issues (that's four months!) to make the equivalent of a TV episode. I may not have the patience to be a comic book reader.
I'm also surprised to find myself preferring the Drew Goddard issues to the Whedon ones. Drew's seemed to have more humor and fun, plus they were faster paced.
But yay! I'm glad to find another Buffy fan and comic book reader at last!
Uh, hate the misleading thread title. Grrrr!

Charissa (dakinigrl) OMG I was totally gearing myself up for a complete smackdown. Psyche!!!

Joss Whedon is a god among men. I am so excited to see what Dollhouse is like!!

Dave Russell Not even the original movie?

message 4: by Tesse (new)

Tesse (hooksinmyhead) Okay, I am going to out myself as a Buffy fan.

The show, while plagued by some of the typical flaws of network TV, was smarter and definitely more queer friendly than most.

It was also funny as all get out and had a sincerity and charm that is lacking in most shows.

There. Have at.

Jackie "the Librarian" Oh, yeah, Buffy was such a horrible show. How could you STAND it?!?
Obvious metaphors, an implausible too skinny heroine, and don't forget these lame elements:
"Fake the Snake"
"Captain Cardboard"
"Puffy Xander"
Bad magic/drug metaphor,
and a truly horrible 7th season, for the most part (except for Storyteller: "We are as gods! We are as gods!")
What are you thinking, Tesse?

message 6: by Tesse (last edited Jul 10, 2008 11:00PM) (new)

Tesse (hooksinmyhead) Hey, I have flaws. Admittedly, the show did as well.

I also like organic cheese puffs, Sergio Mendes and Brasil '66 and I read the Anne McCaffrey Dragonsong/singer series.

I have a hard time turning off the analytical portion of my brain given my area of research but for some reason I can comparmentalize the problematic aspects of Buffy and still enjoy it.

I'll go off on Grey's Anatomy though if you want to see some good old venom.

Jackie "the Librarian" Tesse, I'm kidding. I own the BTVS box set.
I am a HUGE Buffy fan. How would I know all that stuff if I wasn't?

I have a ginormous crush on Giles (hot librarian!), I think Willow is adorable, and I "highly esteem" Spike, if you know what I mean. I LOVED that show. I would eat it with a spoon.

I have sought out all the songs used in the show. I sing along with the "Once More With Feeling" episode.

I could NOT be a bigger Buffy nerd if I tried. Hmm, maybe I could. I should try...

message 8: by Tesse (new)

Tesse (hooksinmyhead) Eeek!

I can be a bit gullible.

I have a soft spot for Xander, I love the Dracula episode for that reason.

Bater.

Jackie "the Librarian" Hee! Xander could always crack me up. I've got a Xander quote on my homepage. "To read makes our speaking English good."

I also particularly love "We're dumb", and "Yay?"

message 10: by Tesse (new)

Tesse (hooksinmyhead) I'm not that good at Buffy trivia.

"We're dumb" is about Faith, right?

"Yay?" is from what?

Jackie "the Librarian" This Year's Girl (Faith episode, yeah) Xander and Giles, while looking for Faith, run into Spike...

Xander: Her. Dark hair. Yay (Indicates) tall, name of Faith, criminally insane.

Giles: Have you seen her?

Spike: Is this bird after you?

Xander: In a bad way, yeah.

Spike: Tell you what I'll do then. I'll head out, find this girl, tell her exactly where you are and then watch as she kills you. Can't any one of your damn little Scooby club at least try to remember that I hate you all? Just because I can't do the damage myself doesn't stop me from aiming a loose cannon your way. And here I thought the evening be dull.

Xander: Go ahead. You wouldn't even recognise her.

Spike: Dark hair, this tall (Indicates), name of Faith, criminally insane. Like this girl already.

(he walks off)

Xander: We're dumb.

Yay? is from a couple of episodes, that I can remember, anyway.

From The Prom:
Buffy: I'm gonna give you all a nice, fun, normal evening if I have to kill every person on the face of the Earth to do it.
Xander: Yay?

And from The Zeppo:
Jack O'Toole: I like you.
Xander: Yay?

And now, I've got to go to bed. 'Night!

Tesse (hooksinmyhead) Night!

message 13: by Not Bill (new)

Not Bill Whoa! Ali...you are most lucky. When I saw the headline, I knew DakChar was gonna do the naughty dance of fire on your colon. Dude...not even in jest!

message 14: by Tracy (new)

Tracy aw, guys, i feel like i've just found my people, like i've come home. i know quite a lot of people who make fun of my love for buffy (but only because they never watched it).

ps. i do love the season 8 comics. but i only just finished the no future for you, so i'm a bit behind. although now i think i also need to start watching angel, because i somehow missed out on that whole show when it was aired, and every once in awhile there'll be a reference to it that i'm completely lost on.

message 15: by Hertzan (new)

Hertzan Chimera (hertzanchimera) B,T.V.S. is like those really fucking terrible 'pop' songs you hear on the radio from time to time, they're shit and you hate them and the the more you hear them the less shit you believe they are...

but they're still ordure, garbage and the spell prolapse of creativity via the corporate sphinctre.

"feed the masses the bile & garbage they deserve" shall be my new mantra, I guess

:)

message 16: by Dave (new)

Dave Russell Does anybody know what Mike is talking about?

I loved Firefly. I haven't gotten around to seeing Serenity, though.

message 17: by Tesse (new)

Tesse (hooksinmyhead) I think it boils down to "you can't polish a turd" and we're a bunch of hopeless consumers of commercial drek.

Eh.

I think Donna's analysis is apt.

message 18: by Chloe (new)

Chloe (countessofblooms) There's a theater in town here that has replaced one of its Rocky Horror nights with a Buffy Sing-A-Long night. Everyone gets together and sings along to "Once More With Feeling." It really must be seen to be believed.

I have much Firefly love, it's such a shame that the series was canceled. I am hoping for a far better treatment of Dollhouse.

message 19: by Carlie (new)

Carlie I don't like buffy and I
a) have seen it
b) have a great sense of humor
c) am able to recognize mysogyny
d) have well behaved wisdom teeth
e) only have poo up my butt
and
f) there's a limit to my willful suspension of disbelief

message 20: by Tracy (new)

Tracy i guess once i finish watching angel, i'm going to have to start renting firefly.

i would LOVE to go to a buffy sing-a-long night. once more with feeling is definitely in my top 5 favorite episodes.

message 21: by Hertzan (new)

Hertzan Chimera (hertzanchimera) ha ha

oh, sorry, I didn't seem to make myself clear - BUFFY is a bag of worthless shit and an intimate date with the incinerator is too good for it. Anyone who doesn't HATE buffy is already a smouldering cinder in that incinerator.

what?

"fuckin' great movie" as Eddie Murphy (when he was funny) may have NewYork'd about Rocky.

message 22: by Tesse (new)

Tesse (hooksinmyhead) Yep, that's about what I thought he meant.

And I never thought Eddie Murphy was very funny.

message 23: by Hertzan (last edited Jul 11, 2008 02:19PM) (new)

Hertzan Chimera (hertzanchimera) Bunny,

thanks for being my mommy

:)

oh, don't get me wrong, Eddie Murphy only USED TO BE funny.

message 24: by Carlie (new)

Carlie I hate Tesse's new pic

message 25: by Tesse (last edited Jul 11, 2008 03:47PM) (new)

Tesse (hooksinmyhead) Hmmmm...

I have been trying to decide whether to respond but what the hell.

My avatar is the cover art for a single that contains one of my favorite songs of all times.

"One Chord Wonders" (B-Side "Quickstep") by The Adverts, released in 1977. The Adverts were smart and unique and, unfortunately, around for far too short a time.

The woman on the cover is Gaye Advert (bass player for the Adverts), one of the earliest female punk musicians to gain any recognition and an inspiration to me when I was young woman struggling in the very male oriented world of music.

Hate away, Carlie, that's what we're here for.

message 26: by Carlie (new)

Carlie She looks scary

message 27: by Emma (new)

Emma Blue (litlover) That is awesome! To Youtube!

message 28: by Dave (last edited Jul 11, 2008 06:43PM) (new)

Dave Russell Tesse, I thought your pic was Joan Jett.

message 29: by Tesse (new)

Tesse (hooksinmyhead) That's fair, Dave.

The black shag hairdo and heavy eye makeup do look like Joan Jett.

Who is also okay in my books.
