Me too. 8-( I'll try again too.

message 202: by Rachel (new)

Rachel Brand (pixieauthoress) Thomas Nelson seem to be being pretty picky about who they choose to review their books, I got rejected for one a few weeks ago but now accepted for this one :/

message 203: by Camille (new)

Camille (camlovesraptors) | 802 comments You'd think if they've accepted you once you would be good enough to review for them. So weird.

message 204: by Rachel (new)

Rachel Brand (pixieauthoress) That's what I thought too - we've all reviewed for them in the past. If they keep rejecting maybe just email them and direct them to your previous reviews for them?

I got approved this time but I had trouble with another book a couple of weeks ago, so frustrating.

message 206: by Maureen (new)

Maureen Timerman | 33 comments I have problems with Harlequin ..."Love Inspired". I don't have 100 followers on my blog!
I did get the new ones from Thomas Nelson though....have enough to keep me reading for awhile!

message 207: by Rachel (new)

Rachel Brand (pixieauthoress) Do you have to have 100 followers to review for Harlequin? That must be a new rule as I've reviewed for them for a while and I only have 29 followers! Such a pain.

message 208: by Abbie (new)

Abbie (weatherlover1) | 240 comments I looked at the requirements and I did not see a 100 followers and there is no Love Inspired on Netgalley? Are you talking about something else?

message 209: by Abbie (new)

Abbie (weatherlover1) | 240 comments Like I said I don't think that is a netgalley requirement..

message 210: by Sandra (new)

Sandra (pandareads) According to the e-mail they sent me when they denied my request, you need 100 reviews, not 100 followers. So 100 reviews either on your blog or on Goodreads, and you need to provide them a link to that in your profile when you request.

message 211: by Diane U (new)

Diane U (djuseless) I just requested 7 books from Net Galley. I received Love Inspired from Harlequin right away since I am set for Auto-Approval.

I got a new computer and I downloaded Calibre but I can't download the tools part. It did not work the last time and I found it online. I can't find it this time. Can anyone direct me to the tools download?

Rachel has clear instructions on message #67 of this thread. Here it is:

The fiction editor from the new blog that I'm writing for gave me these instructions. I haven't tried them but I'll let you know how they go:

You'll download the book like you normally would and open it in ADE. Once the book is open, press control-i and that will show you were the actual .pdf is located on your harddrive. You'll need to download and install a free program called Calibre. After that's installed they'll need to download Tools_v3.2 (http://www.datafilehost.com/download-929...). Unzip the file and there is a readme.txt with instructions on how to add the plugin into Calibre. Once the plugin is installed, open the .pdf in Calibre and convert it to MOBI. The Calibre program has the option to send a book to your Kindle. Do that and you're set. If you have any problems with it, let me know. Of course all these instructions were for a PC. If you have a Mac, I don't know if they will still work.

Diane U (djuseless) I requested 7 books from Net Galley yesterday. One from Harlequin, one from Rodale and 5 from Thomas Nelson. I was rejected by Thomas Nelson because they need more information in my profile. I have a direct link to my blog and my Good Reads account. What else can I give them to get approved? I really only want the Amish book but I requested 4 other historical fiction books too. I re-requested for The Promise of an Angel, we'll see if it works now!

message 215: by Camille (new)

Camille (camlovesraptors) | 802 comments I cannot figure it out Diane. I keep adding more information and still get rejected from Thomas Nelson. No idea what their problem is. Someone who has been approved, can you tell us what is in your profile?

That link will not work Diane, the link for Tools_v3.2

Try this:

http://www.datafilehost.com/download-...

It appears that I did not copy over the link correctly from the original post. Sorry! :(

message 218: by Abbie (last edited May 03, 2011 08:30AM) (new)

Abbie (weatherlover1) | 240 comments Really? Thomas Nelson approves me every time I have never had a problem with them.

Let me go look at my profile..

message 219: by Abbie (new)

Abbie (weatherlover1) | 240 comments This is my Public Bio

I enjoy reading Christian Romance which includes Amish Fiction. I will read nonChristian Romance as long as its clean. I read around 5-10 books a month and get my reviews up as fast as I can. I love to read and write about all these great books! I post the review to my blog as well as at Amazon.com and goodreads.com. I also share my review on facebook and twitter.

Nothing special but I hardly ever get rejected.

It says that file does not exist so I'm lost?

message 221: by Abbie (new)

Abbie (weatherlover1) | 240 comments I got 5 Thomas Nelson books last week when I requested them. I wonder why your all getting rejected.

message 222: by Abbie (new)

Abbie (weatherlover1) | 240 comments The guy who created that tool no longer does his blog so maybe the file was removed? I might have it and maybe can send it to you I will look during my kids naptime.

message 223: by Rachel (new)

Rachel Brand (pixieauthoress) The file seems to be unavailable now, hopefully someone can email it to you?

I kept getting rejected by Thomas Nelson too, I only got approved when the fiction editor from the website I write for emailed them and asked them to approve me. So I got approved for four books, then requested a fifth and got rejected for it. So I'm as confused as the rest of you!

message 224: by Abbie (new)

Abbie (weatherlover1) | 240 comments I applied for that Love Inspired book as well just to see and I got rejected too. Not a big deal as I have plenty of books but who ever is in charge of those seems very picky. 100 followers and reviews is a lot! I kind of wondered if the publishers are going to get more strict now that netgalley has grown so much.

message 225: by Diane U (new)

Diane U (djuseless) I re-requested for The Promise of an Angel and I got approved! I did not change my profile either. Hmmm!

message 226: by Lorie (new)

Lorie | 1324 comments Mod
I was curious too so I requested the Love Inspired book and I got approved and I do not think my blog has 100 followers and 100 reviews? Oh well, who knows how they pick?

message 227: by Rachel (new)

Rachel Brand (pixieauthoress) This is all very strange :P oh well, hopefully everyone has enough books to review for now!

message 228: by Diane U (new)

Diane U (djuseless) I have over 100 followers to my blog but I have not done anywhere near 100 reviews.

I am starting to wonder if Thomas Nelson rejects everyone so they will only re-request the books they really really want. It's too weird!

Yes, I have over 30 books to review so I really need to get started before I cannot get anymore free Amish books from them.

message 229: by Lorie (new)

Lorie | 1324 comments Mod
Rachel I was not saying that for you to stick you tougue out at me lol. I was just saying that the way that pick does not make sense lol. And I have plenty of books to review too. lol

message 230: by Rachel (new)

Rachel Brand (pixieauthoress) It's especially weird if Thomas Nelson accepted you the second time, without you changing anything to your bio.

Lol, Lorie, I was trying to make some sort of confused looking face and it really didn't come out right! I'm as bemused as you are about this! Glad you got accepted for the book though :) I have waaaaay too many books to review now and should really stop looking at NetGalley.

message 231: by Camille (new)

Camille (camlovesraptors) | 802 comments I have a theory that it is based on who reads your request from Thomas Nelson. I think some are probably more forgiving than others...

message 232: by Abbie (new)

Abbie (weatherlover1) | 240 comments I have around 20 review books right now. I have some vacation time coming up later this month and next so I hope to make a dent in my pile!

message 233: by Camille (new)

Camille (camlovesraptors) | 802 comments I am with you Abbie, but I have at least 20 hard copy books, and probably another 20 e copy books. 2 more finals and I will read NOTHING related to school until August!

message 234: by Abbie (new)

Abbie (weatherlover1) | 240 comments And here I was feeling bad I had 20 books to reviews! LOL

message 235: by Camille (new)

Camille (camlovesraptors) | 802 comments It will be an adventure to see how many I can plow through this summer. I've had to make a shelf on my bookshelf at home just for the hard copies of all my review books, vs. my shelf which is for my "for personal interest" books. Then I usually read two books at a time: one from my review shelf and one from my personal shelf. :)

message 236: by Diane U (new)

Diane U (djuseless) Book Sneeze has The Promise of an Angel by Ruth Reid available for those who did not get approved from Net Galley!

message 239: by Abbie (new)

Abbie (weatherlover1) | 240 comments I love Barbour Publishing!! Curious does everyone get the read it now instead of request button for them?

message 240: by Rachel (new)

Rachel Brand (pixieauthoress) Yep, I get the "Read It" button - it's really bad because it means I get accepted for all their books automatically so I keep clicking on all of the ones that look interesting...and now I have like 20 books :/

Marie Threlfall (mariethrelfall) | 15 comments How do you get books from Net Galley? Do you have to have a blog? If so, how do you get one? Thanks!

message 242: by Diane U (new)

Diane U (djuseless) Marie wrote: "How do you get books from Net Galley? Do you have to have a blog? If so, how do you get one? Thanks!"

Yes, you do need a blog to review books for Net Galley. I use:

http://www.blogger.com

After you have created your blog, go to Net Galley and create an account:

http://www.netgalley.com/catalog/befo...

After you have been accepted, you can browse their catalog and request whatever books you would like to review.

If you have more questions, there are plenty of us in this group that use it!!! Good luck!

message 243: by Abbie (new)

Abbie (weatherlover1) | 240 comments You may also want to review some books you have already read on your blog before going to netgalley. Maybe have a weeks worth so that when the publishers look at your blog they see your doing something. Barbour Publishing tends to have a read it now button so you might go with a few of their books to start. Its a lot of fun and really not overly hard to get into. :)

Marie Threlfall (mariethrelfall) | 15 comments Help! :-) I can't get the books to go on my nook. Any advice?

message 246: by Marie (new)

Marie Threlfall (mariethrelfall) | 15 comments OK< I got it..I had downloaded Adobe Digital editions like it said, but it didn't work, so I re downloaded the boom and it worked. the PDF file I used Calibre. One of thw books says 55 days. Will it disappeaer from my nook in 55 days? The PDF book didn't have a time period on it so will that one stay? Thanks!!

message 247: by Rachel (new)

Rachel Brand (pixieauthoress) If you've converted the file using Calibre it should be fine, it'll just be the one in Adobe Digital Editions that deletes after 55 days. But if you've converted it, you'll have created a new file which doesn't have a time limit on it.

message 248: by Marie (new)

Marie Threlfall (mariethrelfall) | 15 comments The one that says 55 days won't convert in Calibre. So I guess I better read that one first! Thanks for the help!

message 249: by Rachel (new)

Rachel Brand (pixieauthoress) Boo, that sucks. There used to be a plug-in that you could download to convert ADE files in Calibre, but the link I have doesn't work anymore.
