I like the new format but am still trying to figure out things.
There's an interesting looking Amish novel from Harlequin Romantic Suspense on NetGalley right now, not sure if anyone else spotted it?Colton Showdown by Marie Ferrarella
It looks like it's fourth in a series of Amish romantic suspenses.
Rachel: I noticed that series too. I think I am going to have to get it. It sounds interesting.
I had never really considered doing book reviews and blogging, but I enjoy reading so much that it would be nice to get some free books in return for reviews. So I started my blog back up and am trying my hand at doing reviews. Writing doesn't come easily to me, but I hope to get better with experience.It looks like the main thing I need is more followers on my blog, so I would greatly appreciate any of you who could consider helping me by becoming a follower. I also joined NetGalley and requested a few of our upcoming group reads, although I doubt I'll get approved. But I did get approved for a Barbour book, A Patchwork Christmas. I was so thrilled!

As a blogger for Net Galley do you have to have a fancy blog or can it just be the beginner version at Blogger? I do not know how to make a fancy blog. I am blog illiterate I guess you could say.

The 3rd book in the Daughters of Caleb Bender series will be released in Jan by Bethany House. I just put in a request for it, Though Mountains Fall. The first two, Paradise Valley and The Captive Heart were excellent. Some Amish leave Ohio and settle in Mexico. This is quite different from the norm but I enjoyed them tremendously.

I also got approved for another Amish book on there, Letter to Katie by Kathleen Fullmer, but it does not have a Kindle option for downloading. Maybe I missed reading that somewhere that it did not have a Kindle function?

I finally got a response to an Abingdon request I put in ages ago! They also put me on their auto-approve list. Hopefully others will hear back as well?I've had a couple of books that I've had to download and covert to put on my Kindle, but thankfully not too many.
Hi everyone, I am discovering so many new exciting possibilities through GR. One of them is the possibility to read NetGalley books. I have a question: since I am new and would like to start a book blog where I can review the books(which I can hopefully read!) can I add some of my old reviews of books on there(as examples), or should I just add a link to my Good Reads book list? Do I first have to proof that I have followers on the book-blog? Any tips will be appreciated, thanks!I always had a keen interest in all things Amish, but never read one of the Amish authors. I accidently landed on this page this morning from an outside blog, and am elated to learn about these books!
If someone can reply to my questions it will be greatly appreciated.

It felt like I was talking to myself and being sort of unwelcome.I have visited your blog and love your reviews. I hope I can be accepted as a Goodreads reviewer although I do not have that impressive friend's list or 'follower' list. Oh dear. Will have to try and impress them with a good profile then :-) I wonder if they will be interested in sending me Amish books? I havebeen reading about the Amish - their recipes, language, lifestyle, crafts etc. for so many years.

I signed up for NetGalley and always post my reviews on my blog, here at goodreads and at many other sites and let the publishers know where I have reviewed these books. It has been a lot of fun.

Hi Brittany, thanks for the information! Did you have to first get many followers, or were you able to get requests for reviews from the start?
I forgot to let you know I am also a librarian so that is in my profile. I choose books for my library at work and also at church.

I was able to get books to review right from the start. There were some requests I did not get, but many more that I did. It has been very fun. In my profile I was up front about the fact that my blog was new and I was working on adding followers, but would make sure to post my reviews in many places as my blog grew.

Hi Brittany, you write really great reviews! There is a lot of flesh around the bones in the books you read. I will 'follow' you reviews in GR. You might not want to follow mine, since I read quite different genres. But perhaps I can benefit from reading your type of books :-) Great blog!

Thanks, I thought I should do it too. But will it help for instance if I mention that I was a librarian(although at a university library where fiction was not high on the reader's lists) and review many books for book clubs as well as review the purchase list for local libraries? I also have book meetings at my house with many people from all over the world who stay here and also share my book lists and recommendations with friends all over the world through email? In other words, although my internet presence is not that earth shattering, I do have other means of promoting books? I have done so for many years. I also reviewed books for women's associations - attending their meetings as a guest speaker on books to read.
I would think that would all be good information.

. Magnin's book is from Abingdon Press with a 3/18/14 release date. Vannetta's latest is from Zondervan and releases 3/25/14.
Well, I started blogging at booklikes. I have about five reviews up. I went to netgalley and requested four books from different publishers. I also posted the link to my amazon reviews and said I would post all reviews on my booklikes blog, amazon, and goodreads. I've been turned down by Midnight Ink (for a cozy mystery) and Zondervan (for Murder, Simply Brewed).I wonder if I need to have need to move to a different blogging platform instead of booklikes? I don't know if I should try to keep building up my booklikes or move to another blog. Or if it's even worth it, I don't know.

To re-request, search for the title again (do not do it from the dashboard) and click request from there.
I personally made a blog using Blogger and post my reviewed books there. Some places are picky and others are not. I guess it depends on who is approving from the publisher. Good luck!
Did you fill out your profile for netgalley listing the name of your blog and how many visitors you get? That seems to help. Once you do review for them, you need to go back to Netgalley and post your review there and leave a link to your review post on blog for publishers to see that you are actually reviewing the book.
Thanks for the replies. I might try setting up a blog somewhere else besides just Booklikes. Right now I have like 24 followers, so I didn't put that in my profile because it doesn't seem like a lot. I just started this week though.

There are different publicists for each publishing division, so I'm not sure. I've not actually requested any books from Revell yet, maybe some others can give feedback on how quick they are at responding! But your theory about different people doing the approvals might be right.
