Joshua (JoshuaCaleb) | 62 comments I recently had a crazy idea for my writing. What if I live webcast-ed (via ustream) myself writing my book with a public google doc people could follow along and chat/ask questions/give suggestions etc.
Has this been done before? Would anyone be interested in this?
Would you do it?
Do you think it would be an effective social marketing/writing technique?

Please offer some thoughts.

Lily Vagabond (lilyauthor) | 69 comments Honestly? I know for a fact if people watched me write, they would either think I'm insane (I speak the dialog out loud and have conversations with my characters) or they'd find me utterly boring. Either way, at most, a video of me writing would be a mockery and no one would ever take me seriously again.

Video stills or photos of people writing has been excellent promotoions/marketing for a lot of people throughout publishing.

And on a personal note, if I know X number of people are watching and interupting my writing process with questions and comments, I'd never finish a chapter, never mind a whole book.

I'm sorry, I really am. There's nothing wrong with coming up with creative ideas and I do applaud your effort. But what you're suggestins sounds pretty degrading to me for all writers.

Writing is a solitary profession. Always has been, always will be.
