I hate blogspot. They believe in deleting people's blgo for no reason. My book blog, etc. is still up to my knowledge, but I have created blogs about my workouts and they both have been marked as spam and removed. That sucks.

I'm going over to Wordpress, where your material belongs to you anyway. On Blogspot, they own your material.

I personally use Wordpress. While I prefer using the free online version, there is also the version of Wordpress that you can download and really 'jazz' it up. I do try to keep my blog up to date and all, but Wordpress I can do a Quickpress which allows me to blog any where at any time on any page... I love that feature.

Nevea, I like the free version to Wordpress.

message 4: by Chaeya (new)

Chaeya | 454 comments I have a wordpress site, but I hate it. I spent all that time learning HTML and now they got this CSS / RSS feed, whatever. So now, I get people wanting to update my wordpress theme for $150. If that's the case, I'll just get my own HTML site. Grrr. I don't like it, honestly because I don't like relying on other people. I just don't have the time to learn CSS at the moment.

Okay, I'm done ranting.

I understand your rant Chaeya. Are you using the free site or the paid site?

message 6: by Chaeya (new)

Chaeya | 454 comments Right now, I have a free theme, but it needs to be tweaked. With Google Blog, I was able to put up my own graphic and such, nothing fancy. If you like things pretty simple, Wordpress is nice because all you have to do is get a plug in or app for your page, widget, whatever, and that's cool. But if there isn't an app, you have to find a web person to tinker with it. That's the frustration.

You can put up pictures in Wordpress. I like how you can upload pictures to your media library for future use and when you are ready to use it in a post, you can click on the picture tab on your new post and chose from the library which picture(s) you want to use and click on insert and the picture is put in your post.

Wordpress free account gives you 3gb to add pictures to your account, whereas blogspot only gives you 1gb.

I'm sticking with Wordpress right now. I don't have time for blogspot and their deletions.

John | 7 comments Ultimate freedom: install Wordpress on your own server. Yes, the server is techie, definitely. But by comparison installing Wordpress is nothing. Initial tweaking can take time, but afterwards . . . simple, solid, no hassles, no deletions.

John how much do you pay for Wordpress.org a month?

message 10: by John (new)

John | 7 comments Nothing. Not a dime. I run my own Linux server and have for years. It sits under a table in the basement. I was overseas two years ago and it just sat and ran and ran for seven months.

You can download Wordpress for free from their site, and it really does take just 5 minutes to install it. Pouf, your own blog, website, or website/blog. I do admit, this is somewhat techie . . . but it definitely is NOT rocket science.

To my knowledge the only Wordpress that can be downloaded to a person's computer is Wordpress.org. The program is free, but you will need someone to host the blog.

On Wordpress.com, the Wordpress company host people blogs for free.

Some people like paid blogs, because they like to use if for their business.

I'm okay with a free blog. I am not trying to promote a business.

John | 7 comments I've just taken a look at wordpress.com. Very impressive. It looks like this would be a great way to go, starting out. No hassles at all.

Down the road, the premium (paid) features I'd like (which you automatically have with your own server), are your own domain name, the ability to customize--could be just a minor fiddle--the CSS, and the ability to insert video clips.

Delaney Diamond (delaney_diamond) I don't have any experience with Blogspot, but my experience with WordPress has been great. I use it as my romantic fiction website and I have another that's just a blog for my business. Easy and versatile, so I'm happy.

I like Wordpess Delaney. I don't mind that I can't do a lot with Wordpress, like change the page color or font, but it's working out fine just the way it is.

I still have yet to start my book blog on there. I'm so busy with other stuff, but before this month end, I will have some post on my blog. I have the addy already.

message 15: by Delaney (new)

Delaney Diamond (delaney_diamond) I agree, Arch. I can make changes to the color and font, but they are limited. I love the widgets, too. When I update my WordPress blogs, my LinkedIn and Facebook pages get automatic updates, which is nice.

For the time being, it works for me, and FREE is my favorite price.

I love free too Delaney.

♡Meme♡Reads love♡ | 116 comments Haven't tried Wordpress yet. Can you upload your own backgrounds to make it more personal and add video clips without having to upgrade to premiums? Because like you guys said FREE is good!

message 18: by JC (new)

JC (ainathiel) I just started using wordpress. I haven't decided if I love or hate it. I do think that I want to change my layout and that is giving me problems.

message 19: by John (new)

John | 7 comments Yes, Meme,

You can fairly easily add your own header image, and there are many, many plugins that allow various things--such as embedded video, audio, etc. See: http://jplathrop.net. This is the free version, using a very simple theme--I think it's called SimpleX--and very little adjustment to CSS. Basically just different plugins.

message 20: by Delaney (new)

Delaney Diamond (delaney_diamond) Hi Meme,

My experience is you can't change your background, although some of the templates give you a couple color options. Like John said, you can change your header.

I'm not able to add video to my site without upgrading, but I can add images easily enough. For my book trailer, I just inserted a hyperlink to my YouTube channel where the trailer is stored. I have no knowledge of CSS, but if you do, you could probably make a lot more changes. Here's my website, in case you want to see some of the things you can do without knowing CSS: www.delaneydiamond.com.

♡Meme♡Reads love♡ | 116 comments Thanks John & Delaney l'll get to playing on the net..

No, you can't change the background color in the free version. I am not sure about the paid version. But, you can change your header's picture. You'll have to crop your picture to fit. Sometimes, you'll have to save your picture to your computer a lot, before the picture is the right side to replace the current header picture. But, it's worth it, if you want to really change your header.

What I also like about Wordpress, a person doesn't have to be a member of Wordpress to leave you a comment. Before my blog has gotten deleted on Blogspot, I've noticed that they have that option as well. At first they didn't.

Another thing that I like about Wordpress is that they have categories. Blogspot have labels. With categories, you can find other people that you have a category in common with. With labels, you can't do this.

For example. Say I write a post about Sam Starrett and name my category Sam Starrett. Well, when I click on my Sam Starrett category link, I will be able to see links to other people's post, who has a category called Sam Starrett. The only way that I will not be able to see other people's links, is if I give my category a sub category title.

I like this feature in a way, because this is how you can meet other people you have things in common with.

message 23: by Delaney (new)

Delaney Diamond (delaney_diamond) Arch, I also like the feature that people can leave you a comment without having to log in. I hate it when people are forced to log onto a site to comment, when all they really want to do is say something nice about a post and move on.

Arch | 6706 comments Mod
Yes Delaney. That's why I like this. In Wordpress, you don't have to worry about another window opening, just so that you can leave a comment either.
