Anyone else watch this yet? What are your thoughts?

I caught the first episode, and must say I'm rather underwhelmed.

message 2: by Samantha (new)

Samantha | 69 comments I liked it actually. I did find the jumping around in time disorienting, but I was sufficiently intrigued to keep watching. And of course I have been a fan of Laura Innes since her ER days and am happy to see her in something.

I also didn't anticipate the way the plane situation resolved, so I found that an interesting surprise.

Blair Underwood's character sucks, though.

The time jumping thing almost made me just flip the channel to something else. There's overdoing it, and then there's overdoing it to the point people want to hunt you down and beat you senseless.

None of the characters have really jumped out at me as worthwhile yet, though I do agree Blair Underwoods character sucks :P

I'll probably give it a few more episodes before deciding to ditch or stick with it.

William (wilbarr17) I was having this same conversation over at Sword and Laser. The jumping around in the timeline was a little much which can be overlooked if there is something to the storyline that grabs you, the only problem being that for me at least it did not.

Leland (lelandhw) | 69 comments I also was underwhelmed by the premiere. I'm not even certain that I'll watch another episode. :( I felt like they were trying to restart 'Lost'. Frankly, I got real tired of the 'more questions than answers' formula that 'Lost' beat to death.

So... I watched it last night and this is how it went:

9:15 : Oh no, more flashbacks
9:17 : huh. Aliens. figures.
9:20 : Another one? really?
9:22 : Yay, a flashback! And it's about swimming!
9:30 : Blair Underwood really does suck. And that CIA guy sure plays evil really well.
9:34 : Flashback theater continues! Welp, at least this one has something to do with the story
9:40 : by the time I get to Arizona... man, I want some iced tea now
9:50 : I just...why did I watch this
10:00 : thank god it's over

1 hour ago.... Oh, time for The Event! Maybe it'll be good!

Samantha | 69 comments I donno, I liked it. :p

Apparently I'm in the minority though.. shows I like always wind up getting cancelled :p

Near the end, that scene in the bathroom with the guy and his arm - good grief that made me cringe. GACK!!

I agree about the CIA guy. Great actor, I love seeing him in stuff and he's been in a million things.

That scene was rather cool, but it was way too obvious.

Honestly, the idea of the show seems interesting. It's the way they're going about doing it that sucks. There's no reason they have to do 20 flashbacks per episode in order to get the story across. That's just idiotic.

Also, there's a difference between building a good mystery and simply going "nu-uh! we're not tellin'!".

I had such hopes for this show...

message 9: by [deleted user] (new)

Yep. That does it for me. 30 seconds into the episode and we get a flashback.

That's just... come on.

Anyone who was waiting a few episodes before getting into it, don't bother. It will drive you mad. MAD I SAY

message 10: by Samantha (new)

Samantha | 69 comments There were only 2 flashbacks the entire episode - right at the beginning, I guess.

I really thought this was a great one too - last 20 minutes were really exciting.

Mike (the Paladin) (thepaladin) | 874 comments I know this won't click with some, and I won't belabor it, but... I started this and found it just more thinly veiled NBC political rhetoric. If I have to deal with one "the CIA are the villains plot" I may overload...oh wait I have overloaded as I turned this off with the introduction of the same old propaganda I've seen on most network TV in the last few years. It's too bad really as the basic idea was pretty good.

message 12: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (thelastwolf) I'm watching it...and liking it. I just read it'll be back on March 7th. I hate when they interrupt the seasons like this. Just give it to me straight and in a row.

message 13: by Jotale (new)

Jotale (aiustis) | 10 comments Yes! It will be back. I really enjoyed it despite the evil government thingy.

message 14: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm glad a couple of you actually enjoy the show. It's nice to see a scifi show that doesn't get cancelled.

I just never could get past the first few episodes. I still have visions of multiple-flashbacks haunting me to this day...

Jackie (thelastwolf) I love scifi shows and I really like The Event. I won't hold my breath for it to be renewed though. And if by some miracle it does get a second season, that's about all it's likely to get. It doesn't matter if it's a great show. Scifi just doesn't do well on mainstream network TV.
