Rachelle (shelleyenglish) | 31 comments Please, I must be old. The acronyms like IMO and HEA mean something. Can someone list some of the more common acronyms, so I can understand more of what you all are writing.

H/H=Hero/Heroine
UF=Urban Fantasy
PNR=Paranormal Romance
HR=Historical Romance
ER=Erotic Romance
IR=Interracial Romance
CR=Contemporary Romance
RS=Romantic Suspense
TBR=To Be Read
TSTL=Too Stupid To Live
IIRC=If I Recall/Remember Correctly
ARC=Advanced Reading Copy

Rachelle (shelleyenglish) | 31 comments Thank you so much. This clears up a lot of my misunderstandings.

Martina the Book Fairy (book_fairy) | 442 comments A category acronym you missed is YA = young adult.

Of course, then there are the acronyms for the different series:

BDB = Black Dagger Brotherhood by J. R. Ward
IAD = Immortals After Dark by Kresley Cole
HP = Harry Potter
SS = Sookie Stackhouse

Although those are usually mentioned in full somewhere before folks start in with the acronyms.

Don't forget the various social forms of laughing, too:

LOL = laughing out loud
LMAO = laughing my ass off
ROFLMAO = rolling on the floor laughing my ass off

If you come across any more you don't know, Rachelle, just ask. You'll always find someone happy to help. :-)

message 5: by Pam G (new)

Pam G (pgarey) DTB = Dead Tree Book
And I always wondered what ARC and DNF meant......cool thread!

message 6: by Akaria (new)

Akaria Gale | 101 comments Sometimes people will use SVM (Southern Vampire Mysteries) for the Sookie books too.

MB= Lara Adrian's Midnight Breed series
LOTU= Gena Showalter's Lords of the Underworld

message 14: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (dejameek) | 22 comments What is NSFW? I have seen it on a couple of threads, usually ones with...um....mass appreciation of male beauty.

message 15: by Desperado (new)

Desperado (lethallovely) | 453 comments IIRC, it means "Not Safe For Work". I might be wrong, though.

Not Safe For Work or Not Suitable For Work. Generally used for images that are of a questionable nature.

message 17: by Akaria (new)

Akaria Gale | 101 comments One that I like to use alot (especially when talking about Rehvenge) is BAMF or GQMF. Stands for Badass Mofo or GQ Mofo (as in he dresses so fine he should be on the cover of GQ). Combined you get a BAGQMF which equals Rehvenge! *swoon*

message 18: by new_user (new)

new_user | 1389 comments Yup, NSFW = Not Safe for Work.

message 19: by Lady E. (new)

Most likely either:

Piece of @#$%

Point of Sale
