Val (valz) | 4 comments When my sister and I were little girls, in the 1950's-60's, our mother read us a book in which a child (or children) rides a mammoth in a major snow storm. This is all I can remember. I absolutely loved it.
Any possibilities? Thanks.

Sarah (shkd) Is it the Clan of the Cave Bear series?

Jackie "the Librarian" | 218 comments I think you may be looking for Will's Mammoth by Rafe Martin.

Val (valz) | 4 comments I'm sorry. I forgot to mention that it was not a picture book but was a chapter book and was written way before clan of the cave bear. Thanks for helping. Maybe someone else . . .

Symbol | 14 comments Might be one of the Magic Tree House books by Mary Pope Osborne. Possibly Sunset of the Sabertooth?

"Jack and Annie are whisked all the way back to the Ice Age in this compelling Magic Tree House time-travel adventure where they meet woolly mammoths, cave people...and fierce sabertooth tigers!"

It's a children's chapter book. And I believe that the main characters (a brother and sister) ride a mammoth to safety near the end of the book. It's been a while since I read it, so I'm a little fuzzy on the details.

Does the title ring a bell?

Symbol | 14 comments Nevermind. Sunset of the Sabertooth wasn't published until the mid-90s. So, I'm guessing this isn't your book after all. Sorry about the false alarm.

Ketutar Jensen I was thinking about a book I read in Finnish called "Nunu and woolly mammoth", but that was about a little boy in stone age, written by Derek Simpson. I can't find anything written by Derek Simpson now. :-(
It is also possible that this book is written later, in 70's perhaps.

Sent off a PM to Val, who is still active in GR. Hopefully we'll hear something back.

Val (valz) | 4 comments Yes, if anyone can find it. It would have been in the 50's to early 60's. That probably leaves most of you out but I thought maybe someone had read it later on. We were taking correspondence school and books were sent to us to read.
