Brenda Zimmerman | 3 comments 13 Reasons Why by Jay Asher. It is a young adult novel my sister had her class read. I really enjoyed it and recommend it to everyone when they ask for an idea of what to read.

There are so many! How do I read all your recommendations? haha
My personal favorites are Curse the Moon by Lee Jackson and Capital D by Ash Stone.

Robert Cowan | 4 comments Such a hard question...probably Desolation angels by Jack Kerouac. A great mix of the poet and the joyous madman. Aaahh ones too hard. Trainspotting by Irvine Welsh too, if your not faint hearted. and..

Rhian (rhianlovesbooksx1f4d6) The Stand by Stephen King! it's just awesome

message 156: by Rhian (new)

Rhian (rhianlovesbooksx1f4d6) @paul great story :-) I've not long ago finished reading The Stand and for the first time ever I can say what my favourite book is, it took me a few weeks to read and I loved every minute of it

Hmmm..

I would recommend everyone read Above All Men by Eric Shonkwiler. That was my favorite book from 2014.

I've had this on my TBR for ages ... guess I'd better get to it sooner rather than later.

Cameron Johnson | 4 comments it seems to be pretty timeless - a must for anyone who has ever spent time in the Southwest - great environmental message (undertone) and political message (overt). you won't regret it!

Barbara If I could recommend one book, especially for animal lovers, it would be Merle's Door: Lessons from a Freethinking Dog Merle's Door Lessons from a Freethinking Dog by Ted Kerasote This fabulous book changed my view of the man/dog relationship. Never has a book made me cry and laugh even after the 4th or 5th reading. Nor has any memoir drawn me back to it again and again.

Alex | 4 comments Robinson's Gilead or Woolf's To the Lighthouse, very different novels, one I'd give as a warm mentor, the latter as a beautiful portrait.

David O'Neal | 89 comments This thread has been going 6 years?!? Impressive!

I loved Lords of Discipline by Pat Conroy. Prince of Tides got more love but I thought Lords was superior

Andrew Chamberlain (andychamberlain) | 2 comments "Whit" by Iain Banks - read it at school / college before some dumb cult snares you.

message 166: by Jan (new)

Jan Stites (janstites) | 2 comments Okay, there are two, both of them so highly regarded they don't need my recommendation, and yet I love them both so much and have read them both so often, I feel compelled to cast a vote. One is To Kill a Mockingbird, the other The Great Gatsby. (And I'd probably add One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest if voting for a trio.)

While I agree with both of these Conroy titles, I loved Beach Music the most.

Chris | 58 comments This is GREAT! Thanks for several new books to read!

I was stuck on the highway during a blizzard when I was listening to "Three Weeks with my Brother" by Sparks, and got to my font door on the very last word the day before Thanksgiving!
Ditto for "For One More Day" by Mitch Albom.

----------------------------------------------
I listened to Shantaram and LOVED, LOVED, LOVED the part 1 (laughed my head off), but the part 2 left me frustrated no end!

I bought it a few days ago for 65 cents! How long it will stay on my bookshelf unread I don't know. It's on the top of the pile so it has a good chance of being read this year.
