Need some prayers
Lorraine, I think I understand what it's like for you. I do know about the tears and the worry and the hope. Yes, prayer is the most you can do. We hope with you that the next few days and weeks will show that there is something that can be done to deal with this situation.Love,
NJ

Lorraine, as someone who deals with an illness - Parkinson's Disease - I can tell you that people's kind words and prayers DO help you get through the day. Let the tears come, they keep you from going crazy. Also, let people help you when they offer. Big hugs to you and your husband.Donna in Southern Maryland

Fred went to the Dr. this Wednesday to begin treatment. He's taking 2 pills twice a day to shrink the kidney tumors. For about 2 hours after taking the pills he has severe, stabbing pains in his left side. These pills are very potent and are designed to "attack" the kidney tumors. Then it subsides and now, he's eating more in the last two days than he has eaten in over a month. I'm hoping to get more weight on him, he's down to 143 pounds now.
A big thank you to all of the poster's kind thoughts.
Lorraine,Thinking of you and Mr Lorraine today. I hope everything is going well and Fred is in good spirits. Dan
Lorraine:Echoing Dan's sentiments - I am thinking of you and Fred as well and hope the treatments are effective and not as painful. Positive vibes are coming your way.
Nothing really new to report. Fred's appetite has picked up a bit, but he's still very thin. He sees his Dr. this coming Wenesday, take blood and see if the medication is helping.I was touched yesterday, when out of the blue, two of his co-workers came by and trimmed our 2 trees. They spent about 3 hours cutting limbs and packing up the debris in their pick ups. Really touched my heart when they did this. All his co workers are pulling for Fred and wishing him the best. Said if we needed anything, they are just a phone call away.
So happy to hear that you are getting support from Fred's co-workers. Will keep fingers crossed that doctor's visit brings some encouraging news. Please know that I continue to send positive thoughts your way.

Hope you get good news at the doctor's office. It's times like this when you see just how many friends you have. All good thoughts continue coming your way from the Rockies.
Fred went to the Doctor on Wednesday, he has gained 9 pounds. His tumors are shrinking enough that he can now eat and boy, does he eat!! Two good solid meals and snacks in between. He still has pain after taking the pills, but the pain doesn't last as long. Doctor said his numbers look good, he was pleased to see him gain weight, and he has a bit of acne, which is a side effect of the medication. I did not go with him on this visit, I have a cold and they don't want people there that are sick with colds. His co-workers call and check on him once a week. I've taken him to the grocery store, so he can select foods that he has a craving for. He's not working. Good thing he decided to participate in the study rather than jump on taking Interferon. The medication he takes is $7,000.00 for a month's supply, which is covered in the study group.
Keep us in your prayers, just maybe we can beat this thing.
What wonderful news, Lorraine!! Sounds like the meds are doing their job. Feed that man whatever he wants and know that we are thinking of you.

Lorraine! I am thrilled for the two of you and so happy to hear Fred has his appetite back and that the (yikes! $) medicine is helping by shrinking the tumors. Continued warm thoughts for you both!

That's what I'm talking about!! Hooray, I'm thrilled to hear this, and will keep sending my prayers in the right direction.
Posting an update:Fred had his Doctor's appointment yesterday, Nov.17. They took his blood and urine samples for testing. Doctor came into room very pleased with the results. He had Fred lay down and pressed really hard on his liver area and left kidney area. Fred has no pain. The tumors are shrinking. Fred has been eating normal portions now and has snacks. He did lose 1 pound, but the Dr. says that may be the tumors shrinking. Fred is scheduled for a CAT scan sometime(it's not set yet) in the first week of Dec. The second week of Dec. Fred has an appointment to hear about the results. Evidently this new drug is working. We will know more after the CAT scan.
Meanwhile, Fred's co workers from Bell Helicopter, Arlington Plant, call and check on him a couple times a week.
One bit of disturbing news: A co worker called yesterday, Thursday. A worker in shipping at Bell Helicopter, Arlington Plant, had terrible abdominal pains on Monday(Nov.15). He ended up in the hospital. . . .he has kidney cancer that has spread to his liver. I never heard of this cancer before and now 2 workers within a few months with the same disease. Troubling news.

Good news about Fred, not so good about his co-worker. My dad has chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) which his doctors say you get from your environment. 3 other men that he used to work with in a certain department at Delco also have it. People were and have been exposed to all kinds of bad things on the job.
Great news about Fred, Lorraine. Looking forward to hearing more positive reports as this medicine keeps doing its job!
