Carol/Bonadie (bonadie) | 9510 comments That must be odd, Susie. Having never been married I don't know what it feels like to have an ex, but it must bring out all kinds of complicated emotions.

On a strange note...I just found out my "ex" passed away last July of lung cancer. We've been divorced 20 years, but it still seems a little weird."

Ann (annrumsey) | 16982 comments Lorraine! What fabulous news about Fred's doctor visit and results of the tests!! Woo Hoo! continues best wishes and prayers for both of you. (and hugs!!)

Re the news of the death of your ex husband. Condolences to you, to lose someone who was once important to you is hard no matter the current circumstances.

Brakedrum | 1203 comments March 9 Update on Fred:
Fred had another CAT scan on Friday. He had his Dr's appointment this Wednesday. There is more shrinkage. Tumors have shrunk another 10%. Fred has gained 8 pounds since last month. Dr. said, " I'm ecstatic about how much you've improved in a short time." I had talked with another patient in the waiting area and he had been trying to gain back his weight for over a year. If Fred gains another 25 pounds he will be at the weight he was before this began.
Meantime, on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays we both work out with hand weights. Fred works with 3 pound weights in various upper body exercises. He is now beginning to get a small "bump" of a biceps. His triceps still need to tighten up the loose skin hanging down.
On Tuesdays and Thursdays, we do a brisk 45 minute walk in the neighborhood. He's starting to get his butt back and his calves are tightening up. He's also getting color in his face, and his face is filling out along his jaw line.
This is a great early birthday gift. Fred turns 61 this Sunday.

Thanks for everyone's concern
Lorraine

Totally wonderful news, Lorraine! What a great birthday gift for both of you.

On another note, my 37-year-old niece is having a double mastectomy on Wednesday due to breast cancer. She just seems so young for this. If you could all say a prayer for her it would be appreciated. She has 2 young children, is divorced and the father isn't much in the picture. She definitely has a lot to deal with.

Brakedrum | 1203 comments Melodie, prayers sent your way. Wishing you the best for you and your niece's family.
I was told a long time ago, it's up to God's hands now. I just try to do my best to make Fred feel strong to keep fighting the fight.

Melodie (melodieco) | 3679 comments You guys were so good for my niece........now I need to ask for some mojo for my brother. He's in the hospital with either a staph or strep infection in his leg. He never says anything when he doesn't feel well, so you never know what's going on with him. He's taken me to 3 of my PT appointments and on Tuesday he sounded like he was coming down with a cold and he seemed kind of tired, but he shrugged it off. Now he's sick himself. I'm hoping they keep him a few days and shoot him up with enough antibiotics to fix what's wrong, with those types of infections you never know what might happen. His name is Darren and he's a really good guy. When we were leaving this evening he was worried about how I was going to get to PT on Tuesday. I told him not to worry about that and just to get better.

Ann (annrumsey) | 16982 comments Melodie - you've got it. Hope the infection is easily knocked out and that your PT is going well.

Brakedrum | 1203 comments Not much to report this month. Today, Fred had his Dr.'s appointment at Harris Methodist Hoapital. This visit they took 8 test tubes of blood. They take so many because he is also participating in the study of this new drug.
This month's visit he did not have a CAT scan. He gets that next month. He has it every other month, this is to keep the amount of radiation Fred receives down.
Dr. can still feel tumors around the liver, but they have gone down a lot from September, when this all began. He can't feel any on his left kidney. Next month's scan will reveal more information. Dr. said he may hit a plateau.
Fred lost one pound since last month. Dr. Turner said he would be concerned if he loses weight every month. He's pleased that Fred is active and his blood pressure is within a good range. This medication causes many patients to have very high BP readings.
We will be heading out on Friday to the annual spring motorcycle rally. We have been members of this organization since 1981. After the rally we are riding to the San Antonio area to catch some more Ghost Towns of Texas.

message 148: by Ann (new)

Ann (annrumsey) | 16982 comments Lorraine: Hope you and Fred have a great trip! So glad to hear that the doctor's report was positive!

message 150: by Brakedrum (new)

Brakedrum | 1203 comments Ann, Fred is really looking forward to the road trip. We have policy since the 1990's: do not discuss work, chores or bills. When we leave the house these topics are never discussed. We leave "problems" behind. . . the problems, bills, chores and work will be there when we return. It can wait.
