Will you let me know how that one is Janice?"

It may be a while before I get to it since I have quite a few in the queue ahead of it. I'm really starting to like the Preston/Child duo, and with Scott Brick narrating, it's a trio made in heaven. :)

April | 970 comments I just got 5 books, paperback, excellent condition, for .10 a piece at a local thrift store. I was so excited because All of them are on my "list".
Intensity by Dean Koontz , Your Heart Belongs to Me by Dean Koontz , and The Darkest Evening of the Year by Dean Koontz by Dean Koontz. Also, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest by Ken Kesey by Ken Kesey, and Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas A Savage Journey to the Heart of the American Dream by Hunter S. Thompson by Hunter S. Thompson. It was a good day!

April | 970 comments Judy, I completely understand. I buy books much faster than I can read them! Sometimes, I simply enjoy the hunt!

I do like the classics, but I only "love" some of them. I have a goal of reading all the books on the 1001 list (Which end up being more than 1001 because every two years they update. They remove some and add some. I only add, no removing.) Also, the MLA and BBC top 100 list and Stephen King's (my hero....love him) list. Oh, I also enjoy Oprah's list. She has a lot of great books on her list. Then we add in all the books that I just want to read which aren't on any list. It's a lifetime goal. Long answer to a simple question. Sorry! I guess I can sum it all up by being an eclectic reader.

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments I haven't bought any books in a while, but tonight when I went to pick up my holds at the library I walked by the sale area and...
We all know how this one ends :) I walked out with fifteen more books, most of which I know nothing about.

Perfect Reader A Novel by Maggie Pouncey Paper, Scissors, Death (Kiki Lowenstein Scrap-n-Craft Mystery, #1) by Joanna Campbell Slan The Secret History of Costaguana by Juan Gabriel Vásquez Dr. King's Refrigerator And Other Bedtime Stories by Charles Johnson The Double-Jack Murders by Patrick Mcmanus A Murderous Procession (Mistress of the Art of Death, #4) by Ariana Franklin Friendly Fire by Abraham B. Yehoshua The Voyage of the Narwhal by Andrea Barrett Springer's Gambit by W.L. Ripley Same Kind of Different as Me by Ron Hall The Double Bind by Chris Bohjalian Revolution by Jennifer Donnelly East of the Sun A Novel by Julia Gregson The Lacuna by Barbara Kingsolver and The Earth Hums in B Flat by Mari Strachan

It was decided that I am preparing for the zombie attacks. After all, you gotta have something to read when not fighting zombies, and you might not be able to get to a library ☺

And worst comes to worst, you could throw books at zombies. Enjoy The Lacuna. I read it earlier this year and really, really enjoyed it.

I haven't read any Kingsolver books yet.

Sam (ecowitch) | 2360 comments I've been a little naughty and ordered The Art of Fielding, The Walking Dead, Book One, The Walking Dead, Book Two and Greaveburn, all of which arrived yesterday.

I have been working hard though so I think I deserve it...back me up people ;-)

message 962: by jaxnsmom (new)

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments @Sam - you totally deserve those books! You should enjoy every single word.

@Judy - I know nothing about the series. I should check out the first book - uh oh, another book...

message 963: by Eileen (new)

Eileen (ileanedover) | 80 comments I'm always bad, and get too many books all the time, but this week I got A People's History of the United States: 1492 to Present and Gone Girl just because I wanted them; I got Still Alice, One Thousand White Women: The Journals Of May Dodd and No ordinary time : Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt : the home front in World War II as books for my fall face to face book club. I add too many books to my shelf.

Janice (jamasc) | 60012 comments Eileen wrote: "@Janice - re: book 3 in the Harkness trilogy, it can't come out soon enough!"

Oh-oh... I heard that the 2nd book has a cliff hanger. Maybe I should hold off on reading the 2nd book so that there's not a huge long wait between it and the 3rd.

message 971: by Eileen (new)

Eileen (ileanedover) | 80 comments I so enjoyed reading the 2nd book, I'd hate to advocate for putting it off Janice, but, the wait is definitely going to be longish, as the second was just published in July.

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19219 comments I was naughty. I went to my lovely second hand book store to buy When We Were Very Young for our good friends who just had their first child on Tuesday.

So... i came out with Brideshead Revisited, A Pale View Of Hills, Year of Wonders: A Novel of the Plague, The War of the Worlds, Middlemarch: A Study of Provincial Life, & The Island of Dr. Moreau as well. Oops.

All I was looking for was red books written by people beginning with R!

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19219 comments Lol oh I know. Worst thing is I need to go back tomorrow apparently as I didn't "buy the right thing" (as in I didn't buy more books!). I forgot I bought A Walk in the Woods: Rediscovering America on the Appalachian Trail as well. Back up green.

Pragya (reviewingshelf) | 4044 comments I went to the Book Fair today and returned with Play Therapy by Virginia M. Axline The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold Emotional Intelligence Why It Can Matter More Than IQ by Daniel Goleman The Other Boleyn Girl by Philippa Gregory A Walk to Remember by Nicholas Sparks The Other Queen by Philippa Gregory The Colour by Rose Tremain The Sunday Philosophy Club (Sunday Philosophy Club, #1) by Alexander McCall Smith The White House Connection by Jack Higgins Ice Reich by William Dietrich A Place Of Execution by Val McDermid The Testament by John Grisham Homeport by Nora Roberts Fire and Ice by Paul Garrison Edith's Story The True Story of a Young Girl's Courage and Survival During World War II by Edith Velmans and that's not even 1% of all the books that I wanted to buy.

Ya, I know that's a lot, my poor shoulders have been complaining ever since not to mention my mother's wrath and her classic words 'Now where do you plan to keep all those? I thought that's why you bought a Kindle.' Can someone please stop by and tell her I can't resist paperbacks, they have a charm of their own.

I have already read The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield on Kindle but loved it so much as to want a paperback for myself.

Kimberly, I love Darren, well, not in that sense, you know. ;) But he's an amazing partner/bf.

Also, while picking up The Sunday Philosophy Club (Sunday Philosophy Club, #1) by Alexander McCall Smith , I scratched my head trying to remember that perhaps you (Kimberly) had reviewed this very book on your blog and did not appreciate it as much as The Detective Agency series. But I couldn't remember for sure, if this was the very book by Alexander McCall Smith that you reviewed. So I went ahead and bought it anyway.

Janice (jamasc) | 60012 comments Shirley, have you downloaded any of the audiobooks for free?

Most of the books already were free on Kindle because the books are in the public domain.

I decided to give this a try and downloaded the free book Wuthering Heights. I followed the links to Audible. When I unclicked the "use credit" and updated the price, it was $16.16.

Perhaps it's because I'm in Canada. Pricing is a bit different in the various countries.

message 983: by Shirley (new)

Shirley (shirleythekindlereader) Most of the books already were free on Kindle because the books are in the public domain. I even had some on my kindle already.

I was able to add all of them to the cart on Audible at $.00 cost.

You might email audible and ask if that is the problem.

So sorry if they aren't available for you.

message 984: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60012 comments I'm pretty sure it is. I got burned one other time from Amazon. The Kindle Deal of the Day was supposed to be $1.99 and I was charged $15.99. When I complained about it, I was told that the prices differ from country to country. I guess I shouldn't say that I got burned since they reimbursed the difference because I was unaware.

message 985: by Shirley (new)

Shirley (shirleythekindlereader) I do think they should address the country difference in a better manner.

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19219 comments Steinbeck? Really? I had to read him in school, twice, neither were wonderful experiences. I remember in Yr10 was wondering if The Grapes of Wrath was apparently "amazing", the other "good" books must all be hype then. We then read To Kill a Mockingbird, and I found out I was very wrong. I mean, Steinbeck was okay, but ... wow. Although, I am sure you may not like some of my favourites too.

But back to buying things. At 1am last night, I may have bought The Dark Lord of Derkholm, The Year of the Griffin (they were on special), Evening Is the Whole Day and A Case of Exploding Mangoes.
