Janice (jamasc) | 60012 comments I am soooo bad! Someone take away my credit card before the bank does.

Audible.com has a sale on - $7.95/book. I bought 4 books:

The Leopard
Skinwalker
Hounded
A Room Full of Bones

I don't know what it is about books with the word "Bones" in the title... I'm drawn to them. I think I may start a bookshelf for all the ones I've purchased or read.

Did you find any treasures in the... ummm garbage?

message 862: by Kat (new)

Kat (katzombie) | 2478 comments Actually, no! I think I've just already bought everything I wanted....

message 863: by Kat (new)

Kat (katzombie) | 2478 comments Are we all taking a break from buying books? Or just hiding them? ;-)

I honestly haven't bought anything for a couple of weeks, but I have picked up two Kindle freebies that I thought sounded really interesting: The Hidden Legacy Of World War II A Daughter's Journey Of Discovery and Love is a Wounded Soldier

Mikki Kat wrote: "Are we all taking a break from buying books? Or just hiding them? ;-)..."

I'm in denial about my addiction and haven't been posting recent activity.

message 866: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60012 comments I bought The Lock Artist from audible.com last night. I also cleaned up my audible wish list. I've had some books on there for so long that I feel like I know them intimately and have no desire to read them any more.

message 867: by Mikki (new)

Mikki I would guess Fitzgerald's three novellas -- I've read one, The bookshop, and really enjoyed it. I will be reading some of the books for the Toppler so by then I'll have a better idea.

The Letter Killers club was just okay.

Kat (katzombie) | 2478 comments It's been a while, but today I got three books for EUR 2.85 (ok, so I also had a voucher and just paid the difference, but it sounds good!)

The Absolutist, Matterhorn and The Sealed Letter

It took me nearly 20 minutes to decide what I wanted, not because there were too many to choose from, but because I couldn't find anything I did want! Dutch book stores are so depressing, only three shelves to choose from :(

But there's a package coming later this week....

Good for you Kat, I really enjoyed

The Absolutist Happy Reading !

message 871: by Mintymedley (new)

Mintymedley | 60 comments I just put an order in to BetterWorldBooks.com :
Beneath the Sands of Egypt: Adventures of an Unconventional Archaeologist$6.86
Fifty Shades of Grey $12.24
I got these two for under $5 each:
Outlander
Dragonfly in Amber

My library is woefully lax when it comes to my TBR list. I was happy to find Better World Books, though. Every time you buy a book, they donate a book to someone in need. They raise a lot of money for charity as well. They also have an optional 3 cent tax on each book you buy to help recover the carbon effect of getting your book to you. The money goes toward alternative energy resources.

Oh, good to know Dem! I'd never heard of it before and only picked it up because the blurb sounded interesting - looking forward to reading it :-D

message 873: by Kat (new)

Kat (katzombie) | 2478 comments OK, part two!

My Sister Lives on the Mantelpiece, Memoirs of an Imaginary Friend, Dear Dylan, Slated & Deadly Cool

They're currently hiding in a carrier bag because I'm too scared to tell Mr Kat I've bought more books after ordering a very expensive new laptop on Monday - ooopsie!

message 874: by Janice, Moderator (last edited Jun 23, 2012 11:49AM) (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60012 comments I didn't buy them. They were all free!

Irises (about 2 sisters and may fit in with the July callenge) and Sense and Sensibility

These two were from SYNC, who is offering two free YA audiobooks a week for the summer months. It uses Overdrive Media Console. There are some restrictions if you live outside the USA, but there is a list of which ones are affected.

The other freebie was from Kindle, Dancing in the Shadows of Love which may be my July challenge selection.

Little America: The War Within the War for Afghanistan, I read the New York Journal of Books' review this morning and immediately purchased the book. Fascinating non fiction.

message 876: by Lori (new)

Lori Baldi I picked up a brand new book Beautiful Ruins & started it on the weekend. It's good so far, a little scattered in it's thinking but good. I also go Jeffrey Archer's newest, I think. I'm a little behind on his books and I think I missed the first in this series. But I got The Sins of the Father. It sounds pretty darn good.

Dem | 985 comments I just received Perla in postbox this morning, looking forward to this one as my friend raved about it.

Also got The Light Between Oceans The Light Between Oceans by M.L. Stedman

Janice (jamasc) | 60012 comments I just bought The Book of Ebenezer le Page with a credit on Audible.com. They have a $5.00/book sale on right now and I picked up The Statues that Walked: Unraveling the Mystery of Easter Island. Both books can be read form my Around the World Challenge.

I thought I had downloaded Frankenstein, but I hadn't, so I downloaded it for free on iBook.

Maybe there's a glitch because there were a couple of books that I was sure I had added to my shelves but weren't. Maybe the glitch is due to mental-pausing.

message 879: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60012 comments Audible has a BOGO sale on till tomorrow night (buy one, get one for 1 credit).

I picked up two that were on my wish list: The Kitchen House and The Delilah Complex.

I didn't think I would ever enjoy audiobooks either Alison. But I found that as long as I was doing something 'mindless' while listening (cleaning is a good one!), I really enjoyed having a book read to me. With an excellent narrator they can be really addictive!

message 885: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60012 comments I downloaded The Amulet of Samarkand for free from SYNC in their free summer offerings.

This book said that it was restricted in British Commonwealth countries, but I had no problem downloading it. I figured it was worth a try.

Kat (katzombie) | 2478 comments I received a copy of Survivors that I've had pre-ordered for about 9 months! It's the final book in the trilogy that started my zombie obsession - the author sadly passed away in 2009 at a very young age and didn't complete the third book, so it's partially ghost-written. Will be interesting to see if it matches up with the other books!

I've got a couple of books in the last week: Black Heart Blue and Black And Blue - no prizes for guessing which challenge these are for!
