Yeah usually I'm not too fussed with spoilers. I'd prefer not to know but if, by accident, I see something then it's ok.Mockingjay though, I just don't know what it is about it, I would literally cry if I saw anything! Well not really but I'd be annoyed. I just don't want anything to spoil that book.
I've always been reluctant to read LKH's books (I think she wrote the Anita something books, didn't she?) because whenever they're mentioned, everyone (well, not everyone but a lot of people) says they go downhill after the 5th.So, if you've read the books, what do you think of them? Read or steer clear? I would hate to love a series, only to have end up hating them. I think I would feel a bit cheated.
Well, I've read the first fifteen Anita Blake books so far and I still love them. I think the reason why people doesn't like it anymore is because it becomes more focused on sex with every book (since it is one of the main powers focus). The first books however are mostly about her helping out with crimes and such, with an Anita who has no interest in sleeping around.
So I guess if you only want the action, but without the sex, than you probably shouldn't read it. Otherwise, If you don't mind it, I would recommend it because the action is definitely still there :)

I've read them all but I'm not reading anymore. The latest was the last straw for me. The first 9 books are almost sex-free and what there is is traditional sex but after that...I think I should've stopped at 12 because that was the last one I enjoyed.
I'm more of Rebecca's opinion on this. Also, the more recent books are scaling back the sex a bit. I tend to stick with a series forever, once I get into it. So, am still reading, and enjoying most of the books. But, the middle books do have a lot of sex, and non-traditional sex at that (more than 2 doing the tango and so on), so take that into consideration. Around that point as well, it gets more into her relationships, and more into her head. Not as exciting as her "cases", but the series is now moving back in that direction.
The last Anita Blake book I read was "Obsidian Butterfly". I think it was like the 8th book or something - I can't remember. Like everyone said, she really breaks away from what made the books so awesome - the mystery, the extremely interesting plot, the romance, and sure, a little bit of sex. After awhile though, it just turns into sex, with no story and I couldn't find what I loved about the books anymore :( It's rather sad actually because they were GREAT at the beginning. In my opinion, I say go ahead and read the beginnings. Even if you don't finish the series the stories are really SO very good and intriguing.
Thanks guys! I might try the first few books but the trouble with me is that once I love a series, I find it really hard to say that it gets bad. I feel like I'm being disloyal or something. BUT, I will try the books although which to try? Anita or Meredith?
I like Anita a lot more. Though, I read only the first couple of the books from the Meredith series after I heard they started to become like the later Anita books. But, I did like those two a lot - but in my opinion, Anita is a lot better :)

I've got it on pre-order...is it already out? I still have to wait a month...sigh.
Daffodil, I liked book#1 of Eden's "Midnight" series. I haven't checked out the rest though. I'm interested to hear what you think about Truthseeker when you've read it.
It's one of those series I don't think you need to read in order. I've read a couple from all over the shop. LOL.
Judithe,
came in the mail yesterday. So maybe you won't have to wait the month, they must of published early. You've got some interesting ones there Daffodil. I've only got Warrior & Colter's Woman, will have to investigate the other ones. Oh I like this thread, finding new books to check out!
Daffodil, hope you enjoy "Nightwalker", that series has only gotten better, IMO. LOVED the last two!I want to read Afterlife as well.
Hmmmm, time to go shopping again?? LMAO!! I haven't even made a dent in the ones I bought in the states, but .... I can't help myself!
Phew! I forget who I'm talking to sometimes. No need to worry about something so silly. LOL! Book Depository, here I come! :D
So, how did your Book Depository visit go?I'm still waiting...though I gave in and ordered a bunch of new stuff, and pre-order's have been trickling in...but no Breeds so far!
I've decided that Goodreads is hazardous to my budget. LOL. My wish list has far outstripped my buying power.
LMAO, Daffodil! Yeah, that would be a big DITTO! Thank goodness the holidays are coming soon b/c my wishlist is being forwarded to the fam. :)Nope, didn't make it by BD yesterday. Maybe that's a good thing.
LOL..my book budget & shelves are out of control!I did make it over to BD...though I'm pretty content with amazon.co.jp...have to do some more comparison shopping, and drag out the calculator to figure out which is REALLY cheaper...
LOL! Wish I could teleport ya to the base library to wander, relax, read and enjoy! :( Sorry, hun. Hope you find some good reads at great, low prices @ Amazon and/or BD!
OK, what I've ordered since last time incl pre-orders (about a month ago)
And ain't that scary when it's all there looking at you. My excuse is that the $ has been great. But I have slowed down the last week or so.
Lots of books I recognize on that list~great reads and ones I want to read too!My copy of
is on it's way...and just ordered a few more.
I've ordered
but I've been looking at all the books coming out in the next couple of months so I can do pre-orders but most of the UK release dates which are all paperback are months after the US ones most of which are hardback, hmmm...This makes me grumpy.
That sounds like an interesting read, Ames. Sorry for the sucky release date system. It's typically a bummer all around, hardcover are always not my first preference. Cheer up, sunshine! :)
Speaking of hardcovers, I forgot to add I picked up
for $10 in Borders last Thursday, which is good except I've already ordered the pb from BD which comes out in January. But I just couldn't resist.
LOL! Well, $10 isn't a bad price at all for HC these days. I would've too in that position. I've got
on pre-order and can't wait! But it's not til 3/11, so guess I got no choice.
Yeah it was marked down from $35, and was the last one in the store. I've got
on pre-order also. BD is saying 1 Feb though for pb and 25 Jan for hb.
Waaahhh! I pre-ordered through Amazon b/c hubby was online buying away and snuck it into the basket. LOL! Oh well, guess that's what I get for not checking BD first. Oh well.
That'll learn 'ya Steph. LOL.Judithe you can never tell. Some BD books I'll get 1-2 mths early some a couple of weeks after. As long as I eventually get them that's OK, cause I never get to read them right away anyway.
I'm not saying I don't have a close & personal in depth scrutiny of some books. LOL. Just that I don't get to savour them with a proper read right away. ROFL.
From the library:
Bought the Dark Desires Box Set of 5 YA books:
Ordered in the Play.com sale:
Still got pre-orders to do and an Amazon shopping spree to use up my vouchers.
So...pre-orders that I've been waiting OVER ONE YEAR on arrived today...and I'm reading TWO books at the moment...what to do......
Have to go read fast so I can especially savor these...LOL!
