Alyssa (lyssad87) | 974 comments I'm soo glad that I decided against driving down to Champaign, Daffodil. Sounds like I would have spent way more money than I already did. (I've gone to Borders three times, and bought 34 books, I think.)

It's good you got soo many awesome books. :-D

message 852: by Daffodil (new)

Daffodil (daffodil--ripcranberry) | 2098 comments They were busy too. The parking lot was full. We went after I got off work on Friday. The drive over put us walking in the door around 5:45 and it was probably around 8:30 before we walked out the door. With stopping at Culver's for dinner, we didn't start grocery shopping until after 10. I can honestly say I wasn't even tempted to look at the books in Wal-Mart. ;)

Sarah Dizon (sarahd828) | 1376 comments Uh oh I found another Borders near me, I didn't even know it existed.... now the question is: to splurge or not to splurge?? LOL

message 855: by Alyssa (new)

Alyssa (lyssad87) | 974 comments Only a few days left..... (I think....) :-D

message 856: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25908 comments Once in a lifetime, go for it!

message 857: by Sarah (new)

Sarah Dizon (sarahd828) | 1376 comments I caved... haha I went. At least this Borders had a better SF/F collection.

I got:
A Brush of Darkness (Abby Sinclair, #1) by Allison Pang Kitty Goes to Washington (Kitty Norville, #2) by Carrie Vaughn Right Hand Magic (Golgotham, #1) by Nancy A. Collins Mind Games (The Disillusionists Trilogy, #1) by Carolyn Crane Double Cross (The Disillusionists Trilogy, #2) by Carolyn Crane The Sweet Scent of Blood (Spellcrackers.com, #1) by Suzanne McLeod

Pre-order recieved Tuesday:
Shadow Kin (The Half-Light City, #1) by M.J. Scott

message 858: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25908 comments Some goodies there, I've got half of 'em. LOL. I've preordered Shadow Kin (The Half-Light City, #1) by M.J. Scott as well and it is in the mail. Yay!

message 859: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32703 comments Yay! Looking forward to checking that one out too.

message 860: by Sarah (new)

Sarah Dizon (sarahd828) | 1376 comments LOL Have you read any of them yet? Or no? I've got 256 owned not read books. But I keep getting more and more. I have a whole list on Microsoft Word and it's 6 pages long. I think after this I'm just going to read books I own and try not to buy any more (haha). Next year I'm only buying books that are a part of a series that I own or that I've already pre-ordered. *crosses fingers*

message 861: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32703 comments Hi, Sarah. Sorry to throw in my thoughts, I've read a couple and enjoyed them.

A Brush of Darkness (Abby Sinclair, #1) by Allison Pang Kitty Goes to Washington (Kitty Norville, #2) by Carrie Vaughn Mind Games (The Disillusionists Trilogy, #1) by Carolyn Crane Double Cross (The Disillusionists Trilogy, #2) by Carolyn Crane

Crane's series is a trip. I'm so anxious to read the 3rd book!

message 862: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25908 comments Sarah, I've got the 1st 3 you listed and only read Kitty which I enjoyed, I'm up to #6 I think. Steph enjoyed #1 with the pervy, I think it was a, unicorn so I had to get it, but haven't got to it yet.

message 863: by Sarah (new)

Sarah Dizon (sarahd828) | 1376 comments @Steph, don't worry about adding your opinion, I always appreciate advice on books. ;)

@Sandra, there's a pervy unicorn!! OMG! I must read that as soon as possible! haha I didn't even realize, I don't think I even read what it was about. I just grabbed it because I liked the cover haha I've heard good things about Crane's series so I was excited to get those. Also, heard good things about Kitty, I have the first one but haven't read it yet.

message 864: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32703 comments :D Me too.

Yep - Pervy unicorn! He's a hoot.

message 865: by Daffodil (new)

Daffodil (daffodil--ripcranberry) | 2098 comments Well, I won't be going back. But just for everyone elses info: Border's just marked everything down to 70%, 80% & 90% off.

message 866: by Alyssa (new)

Alyssa (lyssad87) | 974 comments *plugs fingers in ears* La la la la la...... I can't hear you!! *runs away*

Alyssa (lyssad87) | 974 comments Squee!!! Look what I have!!!

(I won it from Mr. Karsten Knight himself when he had a contest on his blog in July.)

*stares at canvas* It's sooo pretty.....

Apparently, my Wildefire canvas is a little suicidal though. She's already jumped (fallen) off the wall twice. We might need to see a counselor if it happens again....

Cindy (eclecticfirefly) (eclecticfirefly) | 1237 comments So - are you trying to tell us the canvas came with it's own personal poltergeist? Really???? That is TOO COOL!!!!

message 869: by Lis (new)

Lis | 4037 comments Sarah wrote: "LOL Have you read any of them yet? Or no? I've got 256 owned not read books...."

I'm right there with you. I think I'm up to 350+ owned and waiting TBR...

Sadly today I did my weekly Borders check and it was finally closed :( NO more deals for me...

Cindy (eclecticfirefly) (eclecticfirefly) | 1237 comments I've already got 571 books listed here as "To Read". Unfortunately, I still have 1/3 to 1/2 of my books still to list......

message 871: by Alyssa (new)

Alyssa (lyssad87) | 974 comments Cindy (eclecticfirefly) wrote: "So - are you trying to tell us the canvas came with it's own personal poltergeist? Really???? That is TOO COOL!!!!"

I know, right!? Best prize ever! Now I have a new friend. I have yet to establish if it is a male or female poltergeist though. I'm thinking female. I mean, what male would really care if the canvas was completely straight?

message 872: by Vivian (new)

Vivian (_vivian) | 1934 comments I joined some of you in raiding the local Borders! I went on Friday and picked up a bunch for 80% off, then the guy said Monday was the last day so of course I go back today for a final perusal at 90% off! And I totally held back, there were so many more I thought about getting but I really don't have the room for them.

Blood Bound (Mercedes Thompson, #2) by Patricia Briggs Iron Kissed (Mercedes Thompson, #3) by Patricia Briggs Magic Slays (Kate Daniels, #5) by Ilona Andrews Magic Burns (Kate Daniels, #2) by Ilona Andrews Moon Over Soho (Peter Grant, #2) by Ben Aaronovitch The Lies of Locke Lamora (Gentlemen Bastards, #1) by Scott Lynch Grimspace (Sirantha Jax, #1) by Ann Aguirre Killbox (Sirantha Jax, #4) by Ann Aguirre Doubleblind (Sirantha Jax, #3) by Ann Aguirre Double Cross (The Disillusionists Trilogy, #2) by Carolyn Crane

I've already read the Kate and Mercy books, but couldn't resist adding to the collection.

message 873: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32703 comments Dang, girl! You got some great ones there. Surprised so many hot ones were still available this late in the game. Sweet!

Cindy (eclecticfirefly) (eclecticfirefly) | 1237 comments Today I got in the mail......

Alyssa (lyssad87) | 974 comments *hates Cindy* I WANT FIRELIGHT!!! *throws a tantrum*

message 876: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32703 comments LOL! You two!

message 877: by Alyssa (new)

Alyssa (lyssad87) | 974 comments If we lived near each other, Cindy, I'd come over to visit. While I was there, I would 'borrow' some books from you. I think I remember you saying you have tons of them. You probably wouldn't even notice they were gone unless I got caught. Lol. *sneaky sneaky*

Cindy (eclecticfirefly) (eclecticfirefly) | 1237 comments If you lived close to me - I'd probably let you borrow a few.....as long as they came back to me without food stains, water damage, teeth marks, etc......

I know how you are......

BTW - Firelight is an ARC. I probably won't get to read it for about a month, but if you still want it then I might be persuaded to send it to you. Maybe as a Christmas present!

message 879: by Alyssa (new)

Alyssa (lyssad87) | 974 comments O.O I ♥ you, Cindy!!*shivers with excitement* Only like 102 days till Christmas! :-D

That sounds awesome! I'll have to see. I might have bought it by then. Darn B&N sending coupons to their members.... Just got some coupons in the mail, they're only 15% off, but something off is still pretty cool. (I'm totally trying to not buy many books this month...)

Firelight is definitely one of the first ones that I want to get. I went to B&N last month, and how dare they not have Firelight in stock. So, I'm possibly going to be ordering it online with my coupon. Now that I think about it, I win. Cuz they're not gonna get as much money for it now that I have a coupon. *sticks tongue out at B&N* Nyah-nyah!!

Cindy (eclecticfirefly) (eclecticfirefly) | 1237 comments LOL Alyssa - way to stick it to them!

message 886: by Literary Ames (new)

Literary Ames (amyorames) | 1854 comments @Josie - Happy birthday! Mine was Aug 31st. It took me a couple of days to get over my quarter life crisis but I'm okay now, until next year. I've been meaning to do a birthday splurge, watch this space. Jealous! What city do you live in with such a selection of books in it's charity shops?

message 887: by Josie (new)

Josie | 1967 comments Thank you, happy birthday to you too! Lol, I was exactly the same, depressed that I'm halfway to 40 and the fact that people (namely parents) feel the need to start saying things like "you're 20 and you haven't done anything with your life!"

I live in Herts, right on the Bucks border so I go to the ones in Chesham, Amersham and occasionally in Hemel (just under 20 in all). Chesham and Amersham also have really good libraries (I think Buckinghamshire libraries are really well stocked anyway). Did you say once a while ago that you lived in Milton Keynes or did I completely make that up?

message 888: by Literary Ames (new)

Literary Ames (amyorames) | 1854 comments Just wait 'til you turn 25, it gets worse. Yep, Milton Keynes so not too far from you. Our library system is pretty good. Not many charity shops, or at least few that I can find. I think the rent is too expensive for them. :)

message 889: by Josie (new)

Josie | 1967 comments Probably but it's good you have a decent library then. If I didn't have one, I'd either have to drastically cut my reading or (more likely) be significantly less well-off (read: broke). I roughly worked it out today that if I read about 200 books in a year, 120 of them would come from libraries.

message 890: by Literary Ames (new)

Literary Ames (amyorames) | 1854 comments I buy most of mine (never at full price) or grab e-freebies. I only use the library when a) I don't think they're worth the money b)when the books are 'on order' because they're brand new c) I have no money left which isn't often. I have to pay reservation fees anyway because the books are never on the shelves, they're so popular. LOL!

message 891: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32703 comments Happy Birthday! (Belated) Josie & Ames! You chickies are too cute. No, it doesn't get worse, it gets better! Least that's what I keep telling myself on each birthday. ;) LOL!

message 892: by Lis (new)

Lis | 4037 comments Happy Belated Birthday Josie & Ames!!!

Nice haul Josie, some great reads there... Love Kelly Armstrong, Fever series and of course, "herself" Diana Gabaldon. Just finished MIND GAMES which is a good one too... Happy Reading!

message 893: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25908 comments Happy belated birthday wishes, girlies :D

Josie, I just re-read Touched by an Alien (Katherine "Kitty" Katt, #1) by Gini Koch and Alien Tango (Katherine "Kitty" Katt, #2) by Gini Koch and am about to re-read Alien in the Family (Katherine "Kitty" Katt, #3) by Gini Koch just love these books to death, so enjoy ;)

message 894: by Josie (new)

Josie | 1967 comments Thanks everyone! Steph, I'll be holding you to that ;)

Lis, I completely adored Mind Games - December can't come soon enough but I will no doubt be sad the trilogy'll be over *sobs*

Who do you think got me onto the Kitty Katt series in the first place?! O.o <-- all turn to look at Sandra, please!
Lol, I think ages ago you mentioned them (I'm talking when Touched by an Alien first came out) and I read and loved it but like so many series, others pop up and distract you and you forget to go back or pre-order the books etc. The other day though, I think you were chatting about the series and I thought it's about time I got going with it! So, I can officially blame you for those purchases ;P

message 895: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32703 comments LOL! O.o I'm lookin' at you, Miss Sandra. Why? 'Cuz Josie made me. :p Oh yeah, and because you turned me onto that SUPER fun series also. :D Love it! Can't wait to jump into #2-3. Actually, I'd rather put down the book I'm currently reading and read #2 now. But, gotta get my challenge reads done first. Then, I'll reward myself with more Kitty Katt.

message 896: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25908 comments Yay Me!!!! ROFL

Well I just couldn't help it, they are so much fun.

And still feeling a bit under the weather, so I'm justifying not reading challenge books and going with comfort reads :DD

Now just have to do some challenge juggling. LOL

message 897: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32703 comments LOL! :) Yes, they are super fun!

Right, you are. Comfort reads definitely help take the end off a cold. I hope that pesky cold vanishes soon.

message 898: by Josie (new)

Josie | 1967 comments Lol! Yeah we're onto a winner there :)
I hope you feel better soon!
