What a great idea, my cleaning standards have slipped I'm afraid, On rising, I only stop to make the first drink of the morning and then cup of tea in hand, I head straight for my PC ...

I love that you shared this - thank you. I also tend to immerse myself in books, and have real trouble when I read about bad stuff like, for example, troubled teens (my son is a wonderful 14 yo but I still fret about him sometimes). And sometimes I too get lost in the character so much that I get up and take my coffee black, like the character, or look for the character's truck, instead of my car....

message 57: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (cherylllr) Y'know, I don't watch movies, but I'm thinking I'll have to make an exception for Mama Mia - tx Carmel!

That's a wonderful thing that you can get so caught up in the characters Cheryl. I like your bad habits!;)

message 59: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (cherylllr) Maybe, Carmel, you can share that in a more apt topic thread? I'd love to read a good story!

Ann Massey (flyingfinish) | 52 comments For me the internet is the worst culprit when it comes to putting off what I really should be doing. And now that I've found Good Reads ... well!!

message 61: by Katie (new)

Katie (ieishanalani) Spending too much money on books is probably my worse habbit but I tend to ignore my partner when I'm really enjoying a book and apparently he reckons I can't make eye contact when its a good book because I keep looking down at the book like I just want him to shut up so I can read...!! Haha I can't help it :)

I'm with you there Katie, on the spending part. But my other bad habit is that nothing much else gets done!! Ha!

message 63: by Katie (new)

Katie (ieishanalani) Haha Brenda I feel like that sometimes... I'm a cleanaholic so as long as the cleaning is done I'm good to read haha

message 64: by Brenda, Aussie Authors Queen (new)

I used to be like that Katie, but cleaning is not so important to me now!! ;P

James Loftus | 134 comments Forever trying to navigate the labyrinth of, getting the words right experimenting with sentences at work, hopefully getting better at creating powerful visuals. Obsessed with how other parts of my life fit-in with making me a better writer, for example exercising hard so I can sit for long hours writing and healing the damage I have done repetitively writing. So so many obsessions. That what writing is about. I think it helps if you're half-nuts. Those who know me might argue with the half bit.

Lisa - (Aussie Girl) | 60 comments My reading bad habits have started since finding these forums. Now I constantly am searching and buying the next "goodread",my TBR can be seen from space, read up to three books at a time and every morning have to check Goodreads to make sure I haven't missed anything...

message 67: by James (new)

James Loftus | 134 comments Lisa, I hope you don't mind but I checked your reading preferences and saw you like paranormal. My novel Celtic Blood has high paranormal content, set, where witches cast their spells amidst the giant peaks of the Scottish highlands. Like you I will read anything. Sometimes there are hidden gems of ideas, or literary techniques in the most unlikely places. Or some almost nonsense line can spark something.

message 68: by l (new)

l Well, whenever I hear any keywords that remind me of a certain book I've read, I go on a little rant of excitement about how awesome that book was to my friends xD

message 69: by Katie (new)

Katie (ieishanalani) Haha nice Lauren I do that too :P

message 70: by Kim Marie (new)

Kim Marie | 894 comments I've been known to buy a book (even though the version I read was borrowed from the library) to give to a friend in order to discuss it with them afterwards!

I do that with ebooks I've enjoyed

If I read a book on my kindle and it is really good then I have to go out and buy the book just to put on my book shelves. Some books are keepers and some are not! It is a bit of a waste of money though.

message 74: by Kim Marie (new)

Kim Marie | 894 comments Yes, but Brenda, there's no point in finding a fantastic book and then not being able to talk it to death with your best friends :) Come to think of it, that's probably why I joined GoodReads!!

That's a good idea Michael. I wish more of my friends owned e-readers.

Yes, picking it to pieces on GR is so good Kim!

message 76: by Katie (new)

Katie (ieishanalani) If I don't know how to pronounce a characters name in a book I'm reading I always think its something completely different than it really is, its funny how so many other people I know do it n it's funny the names we end up thinking it says haha

Me too, especially with my daughter. I also actually do make recommendations to my friends if I really like a book. I'm the kind of reader authors love. Wish I (ie author me) had more readers like me.

Jim (jimbreads) Katie wrote: "If I don't know how to pronounce a characters name in a book I'm reading I always think its something completely different than it really is, its funny how so many other people I know do it n it's ..."

The biggest problem with film adaptations, I find, is realising that I've been pronouncing the name wrong! That happened a lot with Harry Potter. I don't think I've ever made up a whole new name for a character, but I have been very wrong in the past.

message 79: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (amandafoxy) | 28 comments Some of these are hilarious and ring soooo true to me. I occasionally burn the dinner. Even silly things like letting the pan boil dry (completely ruining it) and brown rice which should really be white. LOL

message 80: by [deleted user] (last edited Feb 18, 2013 02:08PM) (new)

Too many to list, but the biggest the other day was at work was when I said to a customer, here's 50 Marks change! I am writing a Historical Fiction series set in Germany just before WW2 at the moment and I have been doing heaps of research! LOL Suffice it to say I got a funny look! LOL

message 83: by Henri (new)

Henri Moreaux (henrimoreaux) Staying up so late your exhausted the next day because you have to read just one more chapter... and it continues until you reach the back cover. Then in a series occasionally start the next book and not worry about sleep at all because you want to know what happens next!

message 84: by Patricia (new)

Patricia Puddle (trishapuddle) | 86 comments Not turning my computer off for days on end because I don't want to forget what web pages I'm on and 'cause I'm writing three books at once, I'm on GR's, critique groups, Twitter, FB, LinkedIn, Amazon, Smashwords, YouTube, ect, ect, two email pages open, ect. And becaue I don't turn computer off, no updates and then problems with computer and it gets the shits and turns off, or I end up with computer problems. Grrr. Why can't I just leave it on? :( OCD?

message 85: by Leonie (new)

Leonie (leonierogers) | 3564 comments The worst thing is the "Purchase with one click" feature on Amazon. When you team that with the "Well, it's only really the same price as two cups of coffee" reasoning, it's a bad, bad thing!

And then I keep browsing Goodreads when I should be writing Book 2. So tempting to just pop in on a discussion, add my 2c worth, and then I have to keep checking back to see what everyone else has said...

message 86: by Patricia (new)

Patricia Puddle (trishapuddle) | 86 comments Hey, Leonie, and Michael, yeah, that darn button. LOL I have so many books to read in my kindle I don't know how I'll ever catch up. And I'm supposed to be writing book 2 in my Ominous Angel Series.

Like you, Leonie, I keep coming on GR and getting distracted. Also on FB & Twitter. LOL.

message 87: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne Brandyn (suzannebrandyn) | 64 comments Bad habit is staying up way too late reading, especially when it's. a good book and I can't put it down. I need to know how it ends. Lol

message 88: by Kassassinn (new)

Kassassinn Well, I think most people my age who read all experience the same bad habit... Not doing any homework!!! :)
