So, it has been suggested that we do a group read and I think it's a great idea! There's very few of us, but we could still have fun with it. :) Do we have any nominations?

Hi SmittenKitten and welcome! :) Jana & I have been trying to get things going here..your suggestion for "intro" is a good idea..and it would be great if you could spread the word..there are so many great pirate books out there to share with others..would be great to see this group grow..thanks for joining!

Dont forget Jana..if an older book gets chosen..some of us need a time period to find/buy that book used.
Living in Canada..can take me up to 2-3 weeks for it to get here! Also post along with the chosen book..certain used book stores/on-line were it can be bought thats a help as well.

Why don't you try good will stores find a couple around where you live and every onces in a while go and take a look at what they have. I live in canada as well and i usually get my books at good will stores. Or when i go to toronto i get them from there i never go on line to get my books that pirate troligy that i bought i got thoses from ST.lAUTENT that's where i work a side from thoes i got 50 other books all for 99 cents

I do have a few used book stores close by but they will no longer take any books past the year 2009! the reason is they dont make any money on the older books so they dont want them wasteing shelf space..really makes me mad..there are those of us who still like & read the older books! I also have 2 thrift stores a half an hour away..sometimes I get lucky..sometimes not:( I have had good luck with amazon used books..you can buy a good-very good book for 1.00 and only have to pay the shipping of $6.00...but its not always easy to find what you want. Im 50 min from downtown toronto..I could go there but Im not keen on the big city.

Depending where you live i know 3 used book stores near christy subway i now this because i go there all the time when i go to toronto my brother used to live aroung there.

Im in Richmond Hill..I havent been downtown in many..many years..I dont know any of the streets down there. I do know how to get to the Eatons Centre..& walk up to Edward st. to the Worlds Biggest Book Store but books being too $$ new I havent been in a long time..where is Christy subway?

From the eaton center you go north get off at young and bloor then you go west and it's about 4 or 5 subway stops. If you want i could get you the address.

Are there any volunteers to take care of the group reads? I'm so busy with my two jobs that coordinating is tough, and I worry I'll never get around to it... Anyone interested?

Well since there isnt that many ladies/books for the group read..maybe a buddy read? I can take care of that Jana..but a group read you have to do a poll & pictures of the books & send to each member to respond to and I think only the mod can do that?
but I can do the buddy read if anyone is interested?

What if we narrowed down the list to like 3-4 books (of those that were nominated) and then we can pick whichever one (or more than one) that we read and report back on the group discussion?? At least just to get us started for the first group read... when we get more people, then we could do the poll.

Sandi, I was just thinking you could narrow down the list and give me the titles. Then I can make the poll. That won't take me long at all.

I don't really care which way we go. If we want to do really informal reads for now until we get a larger group, that's fine with me!

I totally forgot about the January group read! I've been dealing with some serious breathing issues, and have been going to specialists... doing special treatments... I totally forgot about the group read we were going to do!

I am sad we don't have more members... Anyway, I'll put a topic up for Jan. nominations. :)
