message 1005: by Skyler (new)

Skyler (skyler13) I think they messed up Gale and Peeta completely.
Alex Pettyfer should be Peeta.
and Drew Roy should be Gale. They're perfect!! :)

message 1006: by Randi (new)

Randi (The Artist Formerly known as Guitar Chick) (guitarchick) 1. Alex Pettyfer is kind of sucky.
2. I think they messed them up too.
3. I'm still way tooo excited about Danny Elfman.

message 1007: by [deleted user] (new)

They used Liam frigging Hemsworth as Gale! I am NOT HAPPY!

message 1008: by ★ Jess (new)

★ Jess | 4295 comments Mod
I agree that Gale sucks, though Alex Pettyfer would be a much worse Peeta. Just because hes blonde and a pretty boy, doesnt mean he needs to play every blonde character. We ranted on about this ages ago..

message 1009: by Ingrid (new)

Ingrid I don't know a whole lot about actors or anything, so I'm just going to decide it when I see it.
I do, however, approve of the girl who is playing Katniss.

message 1010: by Rebekah Faith (new)

Rebekah Faith (musicalradiance) | 6788 comments Right now I'm pretty much okay with every character casting except for Gale's and Cinna's.

message 1011: by Taylor (new)

Taylor (taylorjaylene) | 4557 comments The only castings I've been genuinely happy with were Effie and President Snow. Most of the rest I really couldn't care less, I'll find out how they do when I see the movie.

Except for Cinna. That one still irks me.

message 1012: by Rebekah Faith (new)

Rebekah Faith (musicalradiance) | 6788 comments The only casting I was legitimately excited about was President Snow, but I can live with the other- especially since I've not seen most of them in anything.

message 1013: by Randi (new)

Randi (The Artist Formerly known as Guitar Chick) (guitarchick) I thought Cinna was downright awesome, but I think I'm a bit more familiar with Lenny than a lot of people who were caught up in the casting, so maybe that's it.

They are! When I watched Beastly the first thing I said was, "PEETA"

message 1015: by Ingrid (new)

Argh! I want to see it right now.

Randi (The Artist Formerly known as Guitar Chick) (guitarchick) (view spoiler)

message 1017: by Ingrid (new)

Ingrid I know that they said they wanted to make it only about PG-13 so that would mean they couldn't do it all that gruesomely. Honestly, I'm not sure how you can make The Hunger Games only PG-13. It is just so violent.

message 1018: by Randi (new)

Randi (The Artist Formerly known as Guitar Chick) (guitarchick) It really is and I have no idea how it's going to work..

message 1019: by ★ Jess (new)

★ Jess | 4295 comments Mod
Actually, there is surprisingly little gore for a novel with that-it really isnt a bloodbath, except for a scene here and there. I hope they dont chicken out though. I still want SOME violence.

Gosh, they should have let Quentin Tarantino direct.

^ I am kidding. Maybe.

message 1020: by Randi (new)

Randi (The Artist Formerly known as Guitar Chick) (guitarchick) Actually, I think Quentin would've been a fun choice. I don't know how my faith in Gary Ross is holding up....

Jordan (flyinglogicmonkey) | 2426 comments Entertainment Weekly has a cover story on The Hunger Games...with pictures of Peeta and Gale. Pic is under a spoiler tag, in case you don't want to see.

message 1023: by Kate (new)

Kate | 8205 comments Ummm...could they possibly look more 21st century teenager?

message 1024: by Randi (new)

Randi (The Artist Formerly known as Guitar Chick) (guitarchick) Gale looks like a body builder who goes to the gym everday for two hours. Not. Cool.
I'm not very happy with how they look. Peeta's fine, if not a little bulky, but I have issues with Gale.
But if they act their parts in the movie on an Oscar winning level (which they won't) then all is forgiven.

message 1025: by Rebekah Faith (new)

Rebekah Faith (musicalradiance) | 6788 comments I'm not feeling either of them really. They're just....not what i imagined.

Kate- seriously!

Jennifer Lawrence was at Oscar nomination level last year. She'll make up for it.
(In my humble opinion, she was robbed of the Oscar for Best Leading Actress)

aaaaaaaaaaaaand...PEETA LOOKS WAY TO OLD AND BULKY.
In my imagination he was a cute-not hot-boy with bright blonde hair, babyish features and was the tinniest bit chubby.

message 1027: by Ingrid (new)

Ingrid Ugh. NO! NO!
That is not how I imagined them.

message 1028: by Rebekah Faith (new)

Rebekah Faith (musicalradiance) | 6788 comments Jess- that's almost spot on for my image of him too! Nevermind that Suzanne described him as slightly muscular from carrying bread.

message 1029: by Jordan (new)

Jordan (flyinglogicmonkey) | 2426 comments More pictures! They're really hyping this issue of EW. They look better in these, I think.
(view spoiler)

message 1030: by Ingrid (new)

Ingrid Ooh! That looks better! I can see them as their characters now.
So excited!

message 1031: by Rebekah Faith (new)

Rebekah Faith (musicalradiance) | 6788 comments They really are! I'll have to look through it next time I'm out at some grocery store with magazine subs. Apparently it's out today, according to the article.

They look better there, yes. Im pretty excited for this film still.

message 1033: by Rebekah Faith (new)

Rebekah Faith (musicalradiance) | 6788 comments I'll definitely have to see the movie- these stills aren't really telling me anything other than I really don't like Liam and I'm on the rocks about Josh.

message 1034: by ★ Jess (last edited Jul 29, 2011 06:55PM) (new)

★ Jess | 4295 comments Mod
The first one was too photoshopped. Im ignoring it.

Jennifer Lawrence: I love her. This casting is near perfection. Both in acting and looks. She does seem a little pretty for Katniss, but Im sure it'll be okay when shes covered in mud and blood.

Liam Hemsworth: Firstly, I hated him. I mean, I was on the verge of tears hating him. But that second picture actually looks pretty good. I imagined Gale a little younger & slimmer, but it could definitely work. Considering he wont be in it so much, I approve.

Josh Hutcherson: Im on the rocks. He looked way too bulky in the first pic, but hopefully he wont be flexing those muscles too often. His hair isnt blonde enough in the second, but thats due to the lighting, I suppose. Im on the rocks about him as well.

message 1035: by Rebekah Faith (new)

Rebekah Faith (musicalradiance) | 6788 comments I agree about Jennifer. At least about the looks part since I haven't seen Winter's Bone yet. *checks Library site to see if they have Winter's Bone*

message 1036: by Frank (new)

Frank At least no Alex Pettyfer, right?

The actors both look better as their characters. As long as they do the movie right (or right in my mind) then I will be happy. But that also extends to the director, writers, etc.

message 1037: by Rebekah Faith (new)

Rebekah Faith (musicalradiance) | 6788 comments As I'm sure everyone who's gotten to know me on GR has come to know, I am an extremely harsh critic. I'm detail oriented and therefore to please me, the movie has to be extremely close. Maybe I shouldn't reread the book between now and the release date.

message 1038: by Ingrid (new)

Ingrid I'm not going to reread it. I want to appreciate the movie for its own sake and to do that, I better not read it.

message 1039: by Frank (new)

Frank Obviously movies based off of books should be pretty close to the original story. At the same time, there are a lot of details that they don't include in movies because it simply doesn't do anything for the movie. There will probably be some noticeable stuff taken out of the Hunger Games movie as well.

message 1040: by ★ Jess (new)

They are definitely allowed to make changes, as long as they dont effect the story line and are in nature with the book: ie, cutting Madge's character is fine, where as making Gale sneak into the Capitol to be with Katniss is definitely not. (Im not sure if thats happening. It appeared in one version of the script, but I think they changed it.)

I cant wait for a Haymitch picture!

message 1041: by Frank (new)

Frank I just read that Lenny Kravitz is playing Cinna? I didn't even know he was an actor.

I know :) I really like Jen as Katniss. I'm comfortable with that. She's one of the best talents out on the field right now.

No!
That makes me so mad, when people try to 'tweet' themselves into the role, like Max Adler did for Cato. I hope he doesnt-and dont think he will-get the role.
I know Finnick was supposed to be around 24 in the book, but Jennifer Lawrence & Josh Hutcherson will be that age by the time we get Catching Fire! Plus, I always imagined Finnick as a little older, but still attractive. It needs to look like he has experience in the games.
Get Ian Sommerhalder, no exceptions. He is Finnick.

Actually, I would settle for Jude Law as well :)
