Randi (The Artist Formerly known as Guitar Chick) (guitarchick) Fail

I'm not going to see the movie anymore.

It's not THAT bad-is it? I'm still seeing it no matter what. Casting doesn't make a horrible movie in most cases (Percy Jackson on the other hand... -_-)

message 603: by Randi (new)

Randi (The Artist Formerly known as Guitar Chick) (guitarchick) Yeah, but we've now been ushered into the Twilight effect. Millions of screaming fangirls will charge into the theaters to see Liam Hemsworth and Josh Hutcherson do brave things.
:( They don't even look like their characters

message 604: by Randi (new)

Randi (The Artist Formerly known as Guitar Chick) (guitarchick) And Liam's not a very good actor.

message 605: by Z. (new)

Z. (mizzfictionista) It's pretty bad, actually. Liam cannot act, and neither of them really look the part.

Lionsgate has yet again proved that they're in this for themselves and the money, not for the fans. Liam is 21, Josh almost 19. The whole point is that CHILDREN are dying, not adults!

message 606: by Randi (new)

Randi (The Artist Formerly known as Guitar Chick) (guitarchick) Thank you! My initial reaction was that they both looked like each other's characters more than they did there own.

Unfortunately Susan Collins seems to be a bit confused about the age of her characters as well. She stated that she thinks of Katniss as around 20, because she is so strong, or whatever. We may have Collins to blame for that little problem. (Strange to blame an author for a movie inconsistency, isn't it?)

message 608: by Jia (new)

Jia | 170 comments And didn't she state herself that Katniss was a waif? I mean she has a strong and sometimes mature attitude and everything, but the character herself doesn't look that old. Well at least how I picture it. This proves that Lionsgate is just trying to make this as a convienient for them as possible. With Josh and Jennifer in recent Oscar nominated films and Liam dating Miley and all that media jazz no wonder. I'm pretty sure Josh is gonna needs lifts too, argh. They have this cast all wrong.

message 609: by Randi (new)

Randi (The Artist Formerly known as Guitar Chick) (guitarchick) I'd better get to work on an alternate version.

message 610: by Kate (new)

Kate | 8205 comments Yes, you'd better. We're all counting on you.

Randi (The Artist Formerly known as Guitar Chick) (guitarchick) *dies of pressure*

*Opens link. Dies a little inside*

So, I am not as upset as all of you, though still not content. Of course unknowns would have been better, but eh.
Josh with blonde, longer hair could work. Maybe. He can definitely act, and its reassuring to know that the Peeta and Katniss can definitley put on a good show. He looks a little old, but I trust in the makeup department.

Hemsworth....Nah, totally unhappy. I havent seen him act, but he does not even look like Gale. At least he will barely be in the first film, so we wont see a lot of him to start with.

On a positive note, at least we will see Haymitch be cast soon. I REALLY HOPE they get some one good! Robert Downey Junior, PLEASSSSSSEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE put your hand up and say you want to be in it!!!!!!!

message 613: by natalie (new)

natalie | 5047 comments *BOTH HANDS UP IN AIR*

Oh please, oh please, oh please cast RDJ as Haymitch!!!!!

message 614: by Z. (new)

Z. (mizzfictionista) A RDJ casting would restore quite a bit of my hope in Gary Ross and the film crew.

message 615: by Kate (new)

Kate | 8205 comments We can hope (really hard) but I'm not sure our faith is going to be restored at all.

message 616: by Randi (new)

Randi (The Artist Formerly known as Guitar Chick) (guitarchick) *hands up*
Better than who they're probably going to cast.

message 617: by Jia (new)

Jia | 170 comments Gonna pop your bubble, but RDJ is working on another project at the time of filming so... I'm pretty sure.

message 618: by Z. (new)

Z. (mizzfictionista) If not RDJ, Hugh Laurie. No exceptions this time.

message 619: by Jordan (new)

Jordan (flyinglogicmonkey) | 2426 comments Hugh Laurie's publicist has told the fans he can't. *sigh* He has "other commitments". He probably doesn't want to get typecast, either. Hang on, I'll try to dig up the link.

message 620: by ★ Jess (new)

★ Jess | 4295 comments Mod
Yeah, I read that Hugh Laurie won't be filming due to other commitments. I saw an official statement from his publicist. RDJ, whilt has other commitments, nothing has been confirmed, so maybe a tad of hope...
Another name attached to the role is Jeff Bridges. I don't think he would be great, but I wouldn't. Complain if he was cast. Plus, he's been in a few YA films recently, namely TRON, and he's signed up for The Seventh Son, which is another franchise. It sounds like TSS will be filming during the same time period, so that probably crosses Jeff off...sigh.

message 621: by Randi (new)

Randi (The Artist Formerly known as Guitar Chick) (guitarchick) He was ann excellent drunk in True Grit, so that wouldn't be too bad, but still. I'm not very excited to see who they cast.

message 622: by ★ Jess (new)

★ Jess | 4295 comments Mod
I am massively excited to see who they cast! Haymitch is the most exciting character. He needs to be perfect.

Also, Effie Trinket: She hasnt been discussed much? Personally, the ONLY person who can play Effie is Amy Poehler. She looks the part, can definitely act crazy & hypo, but can also portray a decent antagonist (which Effie kinda is).
Oh, and I hope Kristen Chenoworth is NOT cast in the role. I am 100% against her.

message 623: by Jordan (last edited Apr 08, 2011 03:58AM) (new)

Jordan (flyinglogicmonkey) | 2426 comments Really? Kristin Chenoweth has been my favorite for a while. I guess I pictured her as Effie when I read it (I blame Galinda for that. Glinda with a guuuh). I agree that Amy would be amazing, though.

message 624: by natalie (new)

natalie | 5047 comments I don't see either. Kristen Chenowith would be April for me. (haha, guuuuh)

I have a feeling this movie is not going to live up to our expectations and we are all going to be disappointed.

message 625: by Randi (new)

Randi (The Artist Formerly known as Guitar Chick) (guitarchick) Kristin is probably not going to be able to do it because she is working on a new TV series (according to the hob.org).

Haymitch might be the redeeming factor of the movie. He might hold it together

message 626: by Rebekah Faith (new)

Rebekah Faith (musicalradiance) | 6788 comments I might watch it if they get a good Haymitch...and Effie.....and Rue. But that's it. Jennifer wasn't a horrible choice, but the others infuriate me a lot. I don't mind Liam and Josh as actors, but they are NOT right for these parts!

message 627: by Annie (new)

Annie (annieiscool13) | 562 comments I am still going to see the movie no matter what but I agree with Rae and pretty much everyone else they need to make Haymitch PERFECT! And Effie.

message 628: by ★ Jess (new)

★ Jess | 4295 comments Mod
I'm gonna see it no matter what. The choice are actually not that bad. Considering we'll hardly see Gale, and if they cast a good Haymitch, the film can still be good.

message 629: by Rebekah Faith (new)

Rebekah Faith (musicalradiance) | 6788 comments True, but I know that I just won't enjoy it unless it starts shaping up by the time trailers are being released.

message 630: by Kate (new)

Kate | 8205 comments Well, I guess we'll be able to figure out somewhat from the trailers. Whether or not we have any hope, I mean.

message 631: by Rebekah Faith (new)

Rebekah Faith (musicalradiance) | 6788 comments Seriously. It's the only way.

message 632: by natalie (new)

natalie | 5047 comments It's never going to be as good as the book though, but the books are always better. Always.

message 633: by ★ Jess (new)

★ Jess | 4295 comments Mod
Bridge to Terabithia. Right there is an exception for you.

message 634: by natalie (new)

natalie | 5047 comments Eh, didn't read it. But Twilight? No. Harry Potter? No. I Am Number Four? No.

message 635: by Baxter (new)

Baxter (julietrocksmysocks) | 383 comments I can't instantly think of a movie that is better than the book, but I can quickly list of some that are every bit as good. Let The Right One In, The Shining, 2001: A Space Odyssey, Blade Runner, Stand By Me, and Silence of the Lambs are some examples.

message 636: by Annie (new)

Annie (annieiscool13) | 562 comments I agree! ^^

message 637: by Kate (last edited Apr 11, 2011 05:45PM) (new)

Kate | 8205 comments I didn't particularly like the Bridge to Terebithia movie. Maybe because it was too different from the book though. That always bothers me A LOT.

For the most part, books are better than the movies based off of them, but there are exceptions. Like Shrek.

If anyone here lives in North Carolina (or neighboring states, for that matter) GET YOUR BUTTS DOWN THERE!!!!

It looks like the highly anticipated movie The Hunger Games will be shot in North Carolina as was previously rumored. The news was confirmed by an open casting call for the movie “Artemis,” the rumored working title for The Hunger Games.

The casting call seeks extras of all ages, but in particular children ages 12-18 and adults “with interesting character faces.”

Here is information for two upcoming open casting calls for the movie:

Saturday, April 16, 2011 Casting Call
10 AM – 1 PM
Cleveland Mall (Off Hwy. 74)
2001- 53 E Dixon Blvd., Shelby, NC 28152

Sunday, April 17, 2011 Casting Call
12:30 PM – 3:30 PM
Carolina Mall (Exit 58 off I -85)
480 Concord Pkwy North, Concord, NC 28025

Excuse me, what the heck. Please tell me I misunderstood the 'Artemis' working title for The Hunger Games?

message 639: by ★ Jess (new)

★ Jess | 4295 comments Mod
Okay, on the 'working title' I found out the following... It could either mean:

1) 'Artemis' is a possible movie name, changing the title from the book

or

2) (MOST LIKLEY) it is in order to keep the project a secret, so media doesnt film behind the scenes footage, since it is such a giant project.

message 640: by Rarietty (new)

Rarietty | 319 comments If it's a possible title, then it would be confused with the Artemis Fowl series. I doubt it. I like how there's an open casting call, even though I live no where near North Carolina.

message 641: by Jia (new)

Jia | 170 comments Same here. Nowhere close. It's a shame, I would have made a pretty good "Seam Girl #3".

message 642: by ★ Jess (new)

★ Jess | 4295 comments Mod
I would make an outstanding Capitol Citizen #62

message 643: by Jia (new)

Jia | 170 comments I mean they wouldn't even have to waste makeup and such on me, maybe a little bit on dirt or something. Looking Seam naturally has it's curses and it's strengths.

Why don't they get the fans in the act, I mean what if they get random people who know squat about acting or THG? That would be sad. :(

message 644: by ★ Jess (new)

★ Jess | 4295 comments Mod
Im sure that lots of the extras WILL be fans...99% of people going out to those auditions will be hard-core fans.

message 645: by Jia (new)

Jia | 170 comments Yeah, or just random highs school drama students who are clueless about the series...

message 646: by Rebekah Faith (new)

Rebekah Faith (musicalradiance) | 6788 comments Which is sad... and even people who are hoping to become famous because of this.

message 647: by Jia (new)

Jia | 170 comments Or some random airhead who knows nothing and just got out of Abercrombie and Fitch with their Ray-Bans and wants to get famous even though they can only pout and make it look like they got BOTOX.

message 648: by Rebekah Faith (new)

Rebekah Faith (musicalradiance) | 6788 comments Seriously- and that doesn't even work for Capitol citizens- Capitol citizens are extremely exotic, due to the number of procedures they've had to keep with the trends.

message 649: by Randi (new)

Randi (The Artist Formerly known as Guitar Chick) (guitarchick) Ooooh, I live in the south but that's still too far away.

message 650: by Jia (new)

Jia | 170 comments So, we need to get Stafani Germanotta to be on the costuming crew.
