Maggie/Gumby - Good grief, your body clock must be SO out of whack. Hope you get some relief somewhere along the line.

Cheryl (cherylllr) Monya wrote: Science is all around us! It only means what makes the world work.

Well put Monya. Science is both important and fun, as are Mathematics & Arithmetic. I didn't understand Trigonometry and I dropped out when we got to Calculus, but Geometry & Topology are fascinating.

I have the Bryson book on Mt. TBR, too - I really do want to read it soon - I think I need one of Mandy's challenges to push me to get to it!

message 1554: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (cherylllr) Ah, Gail, yes, a member was complaining about too much contact from certain 'bad-apple' authors - apparently this is a step to help protect us from those individuals.

message 1555: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (cherylllr) Maggie, you said "I'm too tired to read but not able to get off to sleep."

Oh I hate this. I seem to have a couple of nights a week when I can't sleep but can get a lot of reading done, that's fine. But when I experience this, Maggie, when my eyes close on the page but open when I put the book down, well, that stinks. If any of you have suggestions how to cope with this please share!

Oh, that Ester C is supposed to be fantastic! The price is unbelievable tho!!! I asked at my chemist when it was talked about on TV, and I couldn't warrant paying that much, as I take it daily. And as the C tabs we chew seem to work, why change! But yes, sometimes starting (all that..:O) when the cold comes on, is too late! Maybe it'll stop it getting worse, or lasting 3 weeks...don't know...good luck!!!

Yes, it's a horrible price here..But I import from the USA..They classify this stuff under 'food' so the price is WAY cheaper.

Ah, Cheryl, I don't like Maths much, for all I can do the stuff. I've never met Trig, thank heavens. Never needed to anyway, No.1 son has always had a maths mind and is a civil engineer. We look at the world from different viewpoints and get on really well. After all, I'm only 19 years older than he is!

Well that's going to stop me EVER writing to anyone then, if that's what goes with it. It sounds like it's a warning that the author writing to you often harasses people! Can I register an objection? I'm sure I'm not the only author who would find it insulting.

Not sure what happened there...I did it, and it said the same to me as well...sorry. But it's under "Book related banter..writing a review", so if you can manually hunt for it, near the end of the messages, see how you go there..:)

Brenda - either green tea or Earl Grey or lemon, but add honey and cinnamon. Real comforters for people with colds.

Not so comfortable but it works: old fashioned menthol and eucalyptus inhalant in hot water. Your chemist will have a bottle for 4 or 5$.

Cheryl (cherylllr) The big author's warning pop-up is being thoroughly discussed in the Feedback Group. Don't fret - GR is seeking a balance that will be a win-win for everybody.

Also the Jane Eyre ad has gotten plenty of complaints - but it is an ad so GR is getting money from it, which keeps the site free for us, so maybe you can do what I do and try to tune it out the way I do other ads I don't like.

I usually try to get really comfortable (lots of pillows) and listen to late night ABC radio. That way if I'm awake I am distracted, and I can easily fall asleep. Definitely do not use the computer cos it keeps me wired and wide awake. Yes, it's 2355 and I'm on the computer AND I'm wide awake. I worked all day today - another note to self - DO NOT mix early shifts and night shifts in the same run of shifts. I've been doing this for the last month or so - no wonder my sleep habits have completely abandoned me. I actually spoke to my boss today and asked just to go back onto permanent night shifts.

Cheryl (cherylllr) Thanks - yeah, I've found that getting off the computer earlier before bedtime helps. Mixing shifts is not good, I'm sure; I wish nobody would have to do that.

Tracey Alley (traceya) | 485 comments Sorry I haven't been around lately - despite the hospital's so called 'sterile' environment I still managed to get a nasty chest infection. I still have three more weeks to go before they release me back into the world - it's almost like jail but without the bars lol.

Meanwhile it's been a lousy time for QLDer's and the earthquake in NZ was devastating. I lived in Christchurch for a few years in my younger days and it hurt terribly to see that beautiful city reduced to rubble.

On a brighter note my sister and new niece, Jazmine Jayde, are both doing remarkably well. Jazz is still in the natal ICU but is putting on weight and improving on a daily basis. I long to see them both but far too risky for all concerned at the moment.

Hope everyone is having a super fun Autumn, although I hear the temps have been more like Summer.

Have just heard about a 7.9 earthquake in Japan with up to 6 metre high tsunamis going through coastal towns! OMG, what has happened to the world!

Also North Qld has been hit by heavy rain which has isolated towns, and inundated the countryside!!

Our thoughts are with everyone who's affected!!

message 1591: by Mandapanda (new)

Mandapanda Just got home from work and turning on the news now Brenda. God it's just one disaster after another these days isn't it! Very sad for everyone involved.

message 1592: by Neko (last edited Mar 10, 2011 11:57PM) (new)

Neko I heard the earth quake in Japan was worse than 7.9 and at 8.4! And the tsunami was 10metres.
http://news.ninemsn.com.au/world/8222...

There was also another earth quake in China as well which was around 5.8.
http://www.thehindu.com/news/internat...

Gosh -_-;

message 1593: by Mandapanda (last edited Mar 11, 2011 12:37AM) (new)

Mandapanda Yes it seems very very bad there. It must be absolutely horrifying. It's coming into night now and many fires have broken out which the firefighters can't contain.

Brenda | 80157 comments Mod
They have upped it to 8.9 now, and the warnings are including Australia, New Zealand, USA, Indonesia....the list goes on!! Gosh, watching the tsunamis just taking everything with them is horrifying!

message 1599: by [deleted user] (new)

You know I saw a comment from an American who questioned whether NZ was a third world country because they didn't have buildings that could stand up to an earth quake of 6.3, when American buildings constantly withstood earth quakes of a much greater scale. It made me sick, I just walking away shaking my head. I wonder what they would have to say about this situation.

message 1600: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (cherylllr) I've been meaning to try melatonin, tx for the reminder. Tracy, and all of you in Christchurch and other places suffering the wrath of mother nature, you have my heartfelt sympathy.
