Thanks Michael:) We usually turn everything off for the hour - just thinking, it should have been last night with the power blackout;) lol

A week or so ago we lost all power for 12 hours. Enough earth hours for a couple of years!!?We turn everything off except the airconditioner. Read by candle light and sip wine.
Seriously though. I have been doing a free online course about climate change and it is very scary. It may be a real threat, it may be baloney. But if governments around the world ignore it as baloney and earth reaches it's tipping point there will be no coming back. If turning my lights out can help in some small way I will be satisfied :)
Phrynne wrote: "I'm going to see Noah at the movies. Does it count that we will all be sitting in the dark?"You'll have to tell us what it's like. I've seen that it has been banned in some countries for religious reasons.
I like Russell Crow movies. He always plays amazing characters and I have enjoyed all his movies. I am looking forwards to seeing Noah.
I read the review this morning and apparently there are some major diversions from the bible story. I shall probably get cross about that but I will go anyway.

Someone said on the TV this morning that all the candles lit in the Earth Hour create more carbon emissions! You can't win I'm afraid!!

We almost went to see that yesterday Phrynne - it looks really good. We will go to see it after we arrive home:) Enjoy! And yes it does;)

The candle thing makes sense. The power stations would still be running their generators they can't shut them down for an hour as would take about 12 hours to get them up and running safely again. So whether you use the power or not it is still being generated. Then on top of that you light a candle which is actually adding extra carbon on top of the carbons being generated at the power station. Still it is a nice thought and shows that we care about the future of our planet :)
Has anyone bought someone a gift with an ulterior motive and it backfired?I gave my mum The Light Between Oceansfor Christmas hoping that she would pass it on to me after reading it. She recently told me she loved it, couldn't put it down and then proceeded to tell me she gave it away, to my niece. :(

Oh dear. Can you ask your niece if you can borrow it :)
I bought my husband a cook book that I wanted ;)

Congrats on your team's win

You most certainly did! Was a good win for Port!

Happy April Fools everyone - don't fall for any sensational headlines in your local paper - or come and see this whale washed up on the beach type radio announcements - could be a joke!!!By the way - the whale one was done here in Darwin a few years back - lots of people turned up at the beach only to be told it was an April Fools joke - I think there was a free sausage sizzle though for the duped :)
Another time all the local radio stations got together and announced the same incorrect time - people were waking up at 6 and being told it was 7!!!
Michael wrote: "Speaking of whales Australia had a signicant win in the International Court of Justice over Japan. :)http://www.abc.net.au/news/2014-03-31......"
That is great isn't it - not sure how they go about enforcing it though. I guess sanctions against japan if they don't toe the line
Michael wrote: "Speaking of whales Australia had a signicant win in the International Court of Justice over Japan. :)http://www.abc.net.au/news/2014-03-31......"
Excellent news!
I heard on the ABC today that Japan will still do whaling close to Japan in their own waters. this will be sufficient for current consumption levels as not that many people in Japan eat whale meat anymore anyway, especially the younger generations, so is not a lucrative business. The amount of protein sold in the form of whale meat is less than 3% - they have warehouses full of frozen meat that will last them for years and years as they have been hunting way ahead of the demand for years.

So why are they going to continue in their own waters?

Ew, can you imagine a Vegemite energy drink?! Ugh! And has anyone (especially lovers of Jane Austen) seen the Goodreads site announcement at the top of the home page today?https://www.goodreads.com/blog/show/4...
Kathryn wrote: "Ew, can you imagine a Vegemite energy drink?! Ugh! And has anyone (especially lovers of Jane Austen) seen the Goodreads site announcement at the top of the home page today?https://www.goodreads.c..."
Was that an April fool's joke Kathryn?
Michael wrote: "Yes it was Elaine, a very good one at that. :)"Thanks Michael. Yes I read the comments further down and realised it must've been a joke. How good would it have been though if it was true? Well if you're an Austen fan that is....which I am. :)
Michael wrote: "It would of been amazing for GoodReads Elaine. The problem with this day is you don't know what is true and what's not online."Yes, I read a comment on Facebook earlier that said something along the lines of every day is April Fool's Day when you read things on the internet!
No-one tried to make an April fool of me. Not like when I was young, when my family (at least) used to have a go. Are times changing?

LOL - I missed that, very clever

That is very, very true - sadly the advice is don't believe everything you read - google around to see if the story is substantiated. Snopes (http://www.snopes.com/ ) and similar are very good references for what is true and what is not.
Just remembered I went to see Noah. Wish I had not. It actually verges on silly. The fallen angels are represented by stone transformers (I am not joking) and it is the longest drawn out movie I have ever sat through. Russell Crowe is really good but cannot save a really bad script. Why they thought they could improve on the Bible I don't know.

Oh really Phrynne? That's disappointing:( We were going to see it too... How long is it?

Always thought we would pass on it anyway, so good to have it confirmed.
Brenda it is long, very ,very long. Two and a half hours I think but it seemed longer.
Dale I was going to pass on it too and now I wish I had.
But don't forget that is just my opinion (and my husband's who commented loudly at the end that that's two and a half hours of his life he will never get back!) I'm sure there were people there who loved it :)

We don't go to the movies anyway - we wait until we can watch it on TV through the Bigpond rental - we will probably watch it when it is for rent to while away a Sunday afternoon.

I still get emails from my old vets at Carlton Veterinary Clinic. Can anyone help out here?http://carltonvet.com.au/about/patien...
Hi Bette, if you go into contact, there will be a form, you can write them a note asking them to remove you from their listing. Hope this works. Faye

As Faye said Bette, just fill in the form once you have gone to "contact" in green at the top:)

G'day all, just thought I would let you know that I was asked, and accepted the offer, to be Australian Ambassador for Royal City Literary Arts Society in New Westminster City, Canada.....:-)

Ah! I know, I know! Look up in the top right hand corner - there are 2 little icons - one like tiles (which would be selected for you) and one like a list - click on the list icon, then you should get your books as a list...
